i’m interested to listen to this! i remember typing on a private disney music forum about the full album release and the then album producer–now CEO of Disney music–explained how the score had been recorded.

As the film was one of the first in stereo, there was a stereo separation… but not musically. The instruments were recorded in groups to be layered or used as needed… and as such, you could create a FALSE sense of stereo by placing strings in the left and percussion in the right… but it isn’t what we think of as stereo today…and that producing an esthetically pleasing album was a challenge as it took… time…and effort…and careful consideration for what takes to use (because each take was also balanced as it was recorded so if an instrument clipped, they had to re-record the whole thing…OR if the balance was too low)… so it was an ordeal.
