Surfin’ the Silver Screen is another exploration of great soundtrack material, as might have been curated by Quentin Tarantino. We include two tracks from the classic Pulp Fiction, Bullwinkle Part II and Son of a Preacher Man, which is arranged in Booker T & the MG’s style. We also have two tracks from the latest QT masterpiece, Django Unchained. First is the theme from the original spaghetti western Django and the second is Lo Chiamavano King. If you look on YouTube, Django is a popular karaoke song, now you can sing along with ours!

Like Django, Lo Chiamavano King, from the movie His Name Was King, is by Luis Bacalov, a contemporary of Ennio Morricone. (The singer on the original also did the beautiful operatic vocalizing in Ennio’s music. .)

Other soundtrack kings featured on this CD are Les Baxter, a "B" Movie master (Hell’s Belles), Jerry Goldsmith (Our Man Flint), Quincy Jones (Soul Bossa Nova) and the inimitable John Barry (You Only Live Twice). Flint and Bossa Nova are an Austin Powers two-pack because the little techno ringtone from Flint was lovingly re-used in Austin Powers. So we made sure to tack on the theme for Dr. Evil to the end of Flint too

Plus we have 6 originals that we see in the soundtrack listings of the future! The surfy Shindig, Dust-up, Our Man in Amsterdam and Spanish Steps; the spaghetti western Korla’s Theme; and the surf-swing Positraction. Korla is for Korla Pandit, one of the originators of the tiki-exotica craze in LA. (Check him out in the movie Ed Wood).

Finally, there’s Shake some Evil, by Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet (they also did the theme song for TV show Kids in the Hall) and Man from Nowhere, which Shadows bassist Jet Harris played in an obscure UK movie called Live it Up. We hope you enjoy this instrumental exploration of Silver Screen Surf, Soul, Spy and Spaghetti Western music by the TarantinosNYC.
