Same here! 🙁 I hope this is only temporary…
and now after receiveing a pm, i download immediately and deleted the message…. and they can’t acess the messages no more, that’s because this is happening now

It seems to be a phishing tactic, nothing more. No idea if clicking the link itself results in nasty stuff, or if being dumb enough to send a message through it causes the problems. Hopefully the latter.
it seems, someone doesn’t like this and will try to shut it down!!!!
Varese Sarabande, Lukas Kendall, Sylvester Levay…
And then GamerGate introduced a whole ‘nother reason for people to have an axe to grind with the Shrine.
labels or composers will not pay to hackers to hack this forum… or they will loose their reason

Nice reading comprehension, Holmes. My point is that we’re far from an innocent website. Hell, this may just be the work of some kid testing out his skills.
I Knew This Day Would Come..
Maybe So…. But A Lot of Members Share Their Custom Stuff Via PM…. So…. A Lot Lost.
:this:
It would be an absolute disaster if this problem shouldn’t be fixed. :/
Somehow, I fear the worst…
Congrats, you have make the sarcasm-post of the week :’D

Seriously, this whole forum needs an update, especially in security. You know that, I know that and we all have of course say that enough.
But is and can be planned in this direction?
I don’t say that because of the PM-crap which we currently have, more as a Precaution
I know she must still pay the bills, but in all other aspects she seems totally divorced from it.
Joke.
Or Is It? :169:
*nod* No offense to you, Ponyo. 😉
That’s an understatement.
Yeah, that’s better.
Or maybe even better: there was a few Ideas for a new forum, like the good one from zaykho (which currently still under construct/paused)
But take all the threads from one to another forum is not a 5-minutes-thing, if this would be possible.
EDIT:
Zhayko’s forum will probably no longer serve as a replacement for the Shrine and that’s assuming it will come back online.
I’m not lying, though, check her Twitter. I dare you.
No, you’re stuck with it.

Read this book and get back to us on how we can fix it.
:this:
Which I think confirms this has been the attack of someone who really wanted to give a lesson to them lmao
Hopefully Jessie will be able to disable the PM button site-wide before that happens.
Guess I’m truly a bastard, then.
Many others and myself are convinced that a big part of those annoying incidents (or acts of felony, instead) are the works of a small crew of users (with a main leader), which for some reasons have decided to set a bloody mess here (maybe just for jealousy or some kind of revenge).
To be honest I have my own idea about what might have happened and who are the potential offender(s) (and I repeat, this is not just my own view), but for now I can’t quote his (their) pseudo(s) without further concrete evidences.
I’m not bothered by the fact that we don’t have a Like function anymore, but just because the PM function got hacked you’re just going to dismiss it as unimportant?
And I can’t just "leave for a more functional community"…this is the only active site I know of where people have shared really rare OSTs for the first time that haven’t been found anywhere else.
I haven’t heard of a single forum that exists without the use of a PM function. If it truly can’t be fixed then I guess we’ll just really have to deal with it, but c’mon…
Any news on Kim Dotcom’s MEGA 2.0?? it’s working???

PM function is too important to ignore. It appears to be an attack.
Carol Anne, did you paid for that soundtrack request of yours??

speak, i meant write 🙂
It is relatively unimportant, since visitor messages should suffice for more pedestrian conversations.
Those film score fans who rely on the PM function to trade recording sessions are probably fuming at the hack, but frankly if FFShrine is their only avenue of trade, they’re new to the game anyway.
It’s a shame this happened but there are worse features that could have been removed.
And I fully realize that this forum is like the black knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail: its features being whittled away piece by piece, and still we insist that nothing is wrong…

I’ve barely been around the Film section of this website, so i don’t know very well if the "recording sessions" they share with each other are easy to find (what are they, anyway?), but some of the anime OSTs that i listen to have been shared here first…
I won’t say who, but i will admit that one of the reasons why i use the PMing system is to ask for a digital copy of a rare anime OST that someone may happen to own. If i like it, then i’ll buy a copy myself and share it here, but if it weren’t for that function i don’t know how else i would be able to know if the OST is worth getting

Good for you. I’ve been on boards where the administrators disabled the private-messaging feature altogether and folks still found ways to set up more private "ways" to converse, or share with each other.
Plus, every single user can technically disable private messages through his/her own control panel. I’d wager there are more important features to take away from a community geared toward sharing, like the ability to create threads and/or posts, you can still do that, count yourself lucky, given the state of things.
Nobody wants to leave links on thread therefore still exists the possibility of take down. Maybe you’re thinking about making threads only in general discussion section or using chat here. Maybe this is important option, i don’t know, but tell me discussion with who? You thing about conversation with a boy who survived meningitis (ninja-turtles-whatever-member) or similar guys? Get a life my friend!!!
Haha, how flattering it is to know that zvonko knows me by name!! :swoon:
You’re free to disagree, but what I said is technically right: folks can still share links through threads and posts, for the time being. They choose not to? Okay, whatever, but the option is there.
May I ask what boards they are? I’m not doubting you or anything, I’m legitimately curious as to what they are.
another way, besides sharing on threads, is giving the email, ….. perhaps it works for those who trade/sell or have lists of folders….
———- Post added at 08:35 PM ———- Previous post was at 08:34 PM ———-
hey skeletor!!, you’re a ninja turtle???!!! and i thought you were the he-man’s enemy!!! 😀
No problem. A board served as the official community to an Italian magazine mostly focused on PlayStation games, another originally started as a board used by friends playing FINAL FANTASY XI. Long story short: the best we had (when the Chatroom wasn’t available/set up) were threads where folks willingly shared stuff like e-mail addresses, and/or MSN Messenger+Skype handles.
Potentially dangerous? Sure, but copies of private messages are also stored on the forum’s database, nothing is safe once it ends on the Internet. Private messages aren’t really private, someone both willing (and with the knowledge to do so) can snatch them and decrypt them..
But I agree that FF is a "special" place on the net and it’s a sad situation , the site is dying slowly :-/
Or a group of people here who openly advocate closing Film\TV download section?
It would not be the first time that a some mod here works openly against Forum.

Wanna know something, NumeroUno? I’m just humouring you, but last time we touched the subject of Film/TV’s closure, Jessie (most likely the sole active administrator left) agreed with me that it should close… You are treading on thin ice, folks, that’s the truth, and part of the userbase of Film/TV is to blame for it. Ah, one last thing, Jessie is going to make me a moderator of Film/TV, isn’t that a scary thought?!
Just like that… :/ I didn’t want to upload them all a second time, to see how everything gets lost again.
But now I have to think about a reasonable solution.
Rather a pleasant one, I think. 🙂

I have indeed heard that this site has almost gotten shut down various times in the past because of the Film/TV section…can we just close that section right now actually??
Desperate situations call for desperate measures

Being a little selfish, aren’t we?
gone… Please, get a grip. I can tell you that around the time when I had just registered there used to be a thread at the top of Download Links advising users to not use MEGAUPLOAD to share stuff, why? Because links generated there were getting deleted fast. Try switching file-hosts, even picking unpopular ones, if you have to… Use services which upload to multiple file-hosts at the same time. The possibility of PM being gone for good isn’t going to mark the end of anything, for those who seriously want to keep sharing.

If I did run things, that section would have been gone years ago, too much crap started there over the years. That said, I’m more than capable to set aside my disgust to moderate it, if me ending up moderating Video Game Music Download Links is anything to go by, at least.
Maybe I am, but this is the only site I know of where rare anime OSTs have been uploaded…I don’t know where else I would be able to find them if this site got shut down completely.
Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think this site has ever gotten targeted because of people uploading said OSTs. It’s always something to do with the Film/TV section
No man, I’m not accusing anyone. You are not only one who want nuke Film\TV section. The only thing I want to say that in the past were cases when moderators play with coding. I think you know what I’m talking about.
You are treading on thin ice, folks, that’s the truth, and part of the userbase of Film/TV is to blame for it. Ah, right, Jessie is going to make a moderator of Film/TV, isn’t that a scary thought?!
Related to humor you know what’s the funny thing? I’m the last one who should be concerned about closing section.
Right now i have LEADING place for US edition + soon will start another private blog for european authors, but that does not mean I want anything bad happens to this place. Anyway i told you several times, closing shrine most would hit you. Just tell me one place where you might have mod status except shrine?
You’re not wrong, we had a few composers/copyright owners related to Video Game Music show up, too, but most of the biggest "threats" came from Film/TV.
@NumeroUno
Sparktank has been a fiasco all right, not sugarcoating it. As for me, well, if you had said that to the 13-14 years old LSK, you might have been right, but the Shrine nowadays is just one of the many ways I waste my time and not a particularly important one, despite what you think. Wouldn’t gain, nor lose anything I deem important from its closure. I just screw around, one is pretty much forced to make his own entertainment around here. *shrug*
Really? Who?
music that may NOT be posted for legal reasons (Thread 49829): aside from the obvious mainstream music ban, every name/label mentioned in that thread ended there because they pretty much said to the Staff to put a stop to the shares of their releases.
Lukas Kendall (Film Score Monthly)
Mark Cairns & Sylvester Levay (Airwolf Themes guys)
Varese Sarabande
John Ottman (X-Men: Days of Future Past)
Patrick Doyle
… to name a few.

…i was talking about video game composers.
The Materia releases, for example.
Derp, that’s what I get for skimming!
Tommy Tallarico and his Video Games Live releases.
Clinton Shorter.
Chris Huelsomething.
If you’re talking about the recording sessions, then I don’t think you understand that those were never meant to be released publicly in the first place…
I Prefer The Custom Stuff.
Film Mixes/Suites/D Editions Ect….
Not recording sessions. We don’t really get those anymore, with one day exception
Same With TV Osts, If They Do Not Rellease I Just Rip Tracks I Like SFX Does Not Even Bother Me.
Or Did They?….
:169:
Ya, no one’s been minding the store.
Same With TV Osts, If They Do Not Rellease I Just Rip Tracks I Like SFX Does Not Even Bother Me.
I think where (most) of the incentive for desire of a complete score/recording session comes from is the very instance one realizes after they’ve gotten the official release, how that one cue (or couple, or even majority) is just completely absent or left out from that album. It’s often a unsatisfying feeling when an album doesn’t do the score justice, or some of the best music just isn’t there.
But for a rather abstract example, seeing as how Michael Giacchino’s score to Call of Duty was released only as an official soundtrack ‘sampler’, there was only seven minutes of the score left out, and most of the pieces you remember are present, and less-prominent ones omitted. That’s how it should be done.
Its not really the end of the world. There’s more ways to skin a cat I say.
I concur with lorddsp, "that FF is a "special" place on the net". Hey lorddsp, why do you say "it’s a sad situation , the site is dying slowly :-/" What do you mean by this?
I think between us loyalists who want to share from our hearts, a pure share of our favorite music and all, there is a place like this to always be around.
You would somehow find a way of plugging Call of Duty…
"For the record; I am in no way a spokesperson for or advocate to Activision, Activision Publishing, Inc., infinity ward, Treyarch, or Call of Duty, nor am I integrated within any of their respective commerce."
Thank you for your time. I am not open to and will not be taking any questions.
"Just us in this great big empty building.
Kind of like being the last living cell in a dead body, eh?"
:takethat:

I blame the Russians. What the hell, add Julian Assange, too. 😉
Exactly.
Maybe your links aren’t interesting enough to take down? :p Sorry Ponyo, but a reply like this was wiiiide open 😀
If all your (open) links are on MEGA, then they’ll soon be history…
And you know that it’s true. It’s just a matter of time. :/
In any case, I hope that you’ll be spared with such disappointment.
G Drive is cheaper than MEGA (9-10$ usd monthly for 1TB) and also G Drive is ‘Google’ not MEGA which can be taken down any time. So yeah G Drive is probably the best option, thought from what i’v seen organization sucks on it but hey, main goal is to share stuff
I’m sure that there are people around who likes reporting links in TV/Movie section, i wouldn’t be surprising considering how ‘elitist’ the place looks (links in PM, trades etc ..) that some people get mad and report links, since everyone use MEGA nowadays they will quickly be taken down
For the time being, surely. It isn’t the first takedown or DCMA-related scare we’ve had by far.
Well, the PM crisis seems to have been resolved, thankfully.
Was Mr X ever identified?
For the sake of my MEGA account not being suspended again, I’ll never conduct openly-shared linking ever again.
Suspected. Yes. Identified? No.
