I personally don’t give out links in PM. Sure, my threads are "dead" and less people say thanks, but all I want is people to get the thing, with the less problems as possible, I don’t care if they go away with it without saying thanks. A small part does say thanks.

Google is no longer a trustworthy search engine on FFS either. I try that myself on a regular basis, and now almost nothing appears.

So, do you seriously expect users to respect your wishes? Honestly, I’m sympathetic, the same happened to me with some of my shares (not here on the Shrine), but this is the internet and, well:

– Any "true file-sharer" who is a bit honest with himself/herself knows fairly well what piece of trash he/she is first! We often take someone else’s creation(s), ought to be legally purchased, illegally upload it on an online server and offer it for free, without the "OK" from the owners. So, yeah, who’s the biggest asshole?
– In light of that, expecting random folks on the internet to comply with our wishes is rather dumb. The best you can do is something you have already done, remove the file from the account and deactivate the link.

Me, I’m not, and so aren’t many others sharing and receiving music on this board.

Meanwhile, I will continue to share music here, and perhaps more importantly, put it in a context and not just throw people links. And I’ve got countless messages and thanks for what I do that I do. And a lot of people have bought CDs of that music shared and investigated other music based upon the material. Because if NOBODY would be buying music any more, there’d be nothing left to share.

That is my philosophy, and you may not be able to share it.

Oh, really? Sure, you’re not being an asshole to most, if not everyone, who ultimately contributed to the creation of the content you share; I bet they would be happy to know what you and me do. Maybe trash is too strong of a word, but in this "line of work" being generous to others by sharing automatically turns us into dicks to those who put together music/album/other products that get shared.

At any rate, I don’t think the staff will put much effort into stopping this, I know I wouldn’t: it’s not threatening to the Shrine’s existence as a whole, and if sharers happen to leave over it, who cares. The "download links" part has been going on for years, sharers always come and go.

Companies deserve some respect. The least I can do is keeping the proliferation under control. Also, I don’t have the time to re-up all the material all the time because open links are being deleted (an open link I shared on The Planets recently stayed up for less than 12 hours, and that was on Mega!)

If you’re not sharing my viewpoint, that’s fine. But it’s MY material, MY decision HOW to share it. Now, with the PM system down, I will have to find other means of sharing – if it stays down.
