You Have Slates….

– Load stereo track into Audacity
– Split into two mono tracks
– Select one -> Invert
– Only non-centerned image (in this case the fake stereo) is left. That’s called a null test.

Now fold down the original track to mono, and null test it with the non-center information track you just made. I might be totally wrong in my thinking but it may return these crappy-sounding pseudo-stereo tracks to their original mono form.

I do that a lot for some of my own music when I’m looking for that effect. That method can sound cool for some things, but really bad and distasteful for others. Seems to be the latter in this case. That just isn’t something you do, for a film score especially.

best track by far is (40 – Chasing the Dragons) sounds great love that scene as well in the movie

It’s not his best. It’s all right, fine. Not many scores make close to topping his work on the Medal of Honor series.

I know it runs contrary to the shrine’s modus operandi, but how about we listen first, then condemn it.

That way we can at least pretend the long knives weren’t out from the moment Giacchino accepted the assignment.

I just want things to be fine. 2016 has been crap, and I just want to see more optimism. Complaining about a composer doing an ok job isn’t helping.

He’s really given more flak than he deserves. Generic or not, there is and always will be worse-sounding film scores (and composers) to complain about.

Other times it’s people either being too critical or cynical or just not in a good point in life.

I know some have been annoyed with how I try to fix things, but that’s because I actually care to be in a good environment, which this place has been in the past. It’s hard when so many people can be repeated offenders.

I didn’t hate the movie, at least first watch, and enjoyed the score. Pity I can’t get it in physical form anytime now.

Charles Scott. And it’s not a remix necessarily, it’s an amazing arrangement of Giacchino’s theme (which more often than not doesn’t quite muster up much energy in the film itself).

I did too. Some of the concepts were awesome. And I like how the film’s plot sort of touched upon almost what the issue is now; it was difficult for this new Jurassic World to impress audiences in similar fashion to how the first did. But it pulled it off through still being fairly entertaining and damn good, especially when considering how bad this film could’ve done

Yeah! It’s just stupid fun. I normally don’t enjoy that, but on account of some cosmic interference this movie connected with me somehow. And I say this as someone who doesn’t even care for the original JP film.

And I think the military-trained dinosaurs is going to evolve into something really cool in the next film. There’s a lot of potential for some nice expansion of concept here.

But you know what’s the worst? That the sequel is gonna be another "woo, we Earth people are so mean, using animals (that don’t even exist anymore) for bad uses" etc another apologetic of animal abuse, etc.. like in other thousand of movies. I know the humanity sucks, I don’t need ANOTHER movie to tell me the same thing again!

So there’s a chance that JP Collection I bought wasn’t a waste? Cause I didn’t see the appeal in the original either. Should’ve have listened to my brother in law.

I wonder if this is how all the Zimmer haters feel. I always try to put it in perspective and relate to them, but it is my honest to God opinion that every score of his is unique and different from any other. And I also love almost every one of is scores. Giacchino I feel is starting to sound the same. I would say maybe his Star Trek scores stand out (and I AM a fan of those) among all of his works. Anything else, if you asked me I couldn’t tell you what score of his I’d be hearing.

Because the movie and the score were crap? And why bother continuing to distribute something that’s not going to sell/perform well? Remember, we have Tomorrowland to thank for TRON 3 not happening.

Yes it was. Wait – Tomorrowland or Jurassic World? Tomorrowland was shit, but JW wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t good, but I didn’t hate it.

I still do think Zimmer is not that great, in that he makes electronic music look bad. Still, I’d be open to something more from him.

Aside from it being my childhood brought to life on the big screen, this is me with Transformers. They’re not good films, but I sure do enjoy the hell out of them. And Steve Jablonsky is in Prime form (see what I did there? :laugh:) when he’s composing them.

And I like Zimmer. The way he uses electronic elements in his film scores (when he does) is pretty cool, that which you don’t hear too often in film scores.

That’s exactly it. The first one I ever played, and probably the shortest one of the scores he did for the series (5 tracks), though the game’s collective amount of music spanned much of the scores for the first two games.

Just in general, being mono has nothing to do with the (sound) quality of the music. So it doesn’t necessarily mean it does have bad quality. But I do get it, that mono is considered "bad quality". Vs. stereo it does sound like crap.

Fake stereo made from mono is even worse .. perhaps not how it sounds, but (in this case, apparently) in that it’s a fake product passed on as being real (stereo).

Edit .. my point being, mono can have great sound quality. It’s just that it sounds like crap because it’s not stereo. If something has bad quality, I’d take that as having, well bad sound quality (like muddy, hissy, pop’s’y etc).

.. In this specific case (just from listening to the very first track) it simply sounds like a rip (regardless if containing sound effects or dialogue or not) .. with instruments muted or buried (or even gone ??) in the mix VS the ost… So in that sense, I’d consider it to have not so good sound quality yes.
