George Greeley, the brilliant arranger-conductor for Gordon MacRae’s "Railroad Hour" radio series, was also a virtuoso pianist and when Warner Bros. started their own record label in 1958, Greeley was one of the first artists signed. Over the next 10 years on WB and later on Reprise, Greeley recorded 15 albums of his arrangements for piano and orchestra, most of which were prized not only for their musical enjoyment but also for their audiophile stereo sound. "22 Best Loved Christmas Piano Concertos", released in 1959, is one of my favourite Holiday albums, so much so that I wore out the LP I found in a bargain bin in the 1970s; I later felt so lucky to find it on 7 1/2 ips Stereo Tape. In 2010 I DSD archived my tape and remastered it to digital, which is the basis for this download. Expanding the program to CD length are bonus holiday music tracks with the equally great piano duo Ferrante & Teicher & Richard Benson’s seldom heard "Christmas Suite for Orchestra", a beautifully orchestrated 20 minute holiday medley originally recorded for Reader’s Digest.
