I give you Fink (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=112417):
The Da Vinci Code got some of my favourite themes by Zimmer. I like the peaceful ambiance it creates. So when I sawAngels and Demons I thought everything was so much exaggerated that it was sometimes laughable. But anyway, I always kinda liked the original album, especially the "160 BPM" track. It was just a little dull.
So when Sonic wanted to master the complete score by DAK, he asked me if I wanted to turn it into a 1-CD album… how could I refuse… And what a rewarding experience it turned out to be!
First, I have to say DAK’s edit is really really great, so i tried to keep most of the tracks untouched. Some of the new material is really interesting and the chronological order helps the listening experience very much. My goal was to make it a really fun action-oriented album, like a rollercoaster ride through the Vatican. And I think I did it pretty well^^. The remastering is great of course; it’ s bombastic, over-the-top, a Da Vinci Code under steroids. I really love it now, hope you’ll enjoy it as much!!
And here is Heidl (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=428356):
Some days ago Sonic came to me for advice on his custom covers for Angels & Demons. We chatted for a bit and I offered him my suggestions. Meanwhile I also dabbled at some rough (and admittedly pretty shitty) compositions in Photoshop, just out of curiosity. I didn’t think much about it when I sent them to him, because honestly they looked like some pencil doodles during a long phone call.
But to my surprise he liked the first one and much to my delight he added his small but delicate touches to it before sending it back. And suddenly it worked! And I was immediately hooked!
Over the course of a few days we sent back and forth our latest improvements and little by little it took shape. You could say this was my first real collaboration on a custom cover and it was really a lot of fun! And it happened more or less by accident which makes it all the more special.
Based on both of our ideas – and with Sonic’s approval – I finalized the design into the full set below. The idea was to make you, the viewer, rotate it in order to read all the text and by doing so appreciate all those ambigrams that are incorporated into the artwork. It’s also free of any official promo material from the film just because why not 🙂 If you want to have a more movie-themed custom cover you can always choose one of Sonic’s beautiful and carefully crafted designs.
Heidl’s cover. Beautiful job. And so much work. I am so sorry for causing him to go through this…
And now me.
But first: Why? Because – as you will remember – for The DaVinci Code (Thread 207218) I wrote "This was – another – awful experience, again connected to or by Zimmer. I didn’t enjoy working on it, no aspect of this Editon turned out to my complete liking. Because of that I have made the decision that I will not work on a Hans Zimmer score again. His scores need a lot of work to sound any good, his OSTs usually are very good representations and much better than any complete Edition could ever be. The same that happened to ‘The Last Samurai’, also happened to ‘The Da Vinci Code’: the OST is better. If I would have the chance to decide again, I would not do it again, it is pointless."
Well, a week after I finished DaVinci and released it here, I watched the movie again. And after that I immediately saw Angels & Demons. I own both on Bluray in addition to both respective original score releases. Up to that point, both the movie and the OST for A&D never did it for me (don’t even mention the book). I had always thought that especially the score wasn’t that good compared to DaVinci. Imagine my surprise when I watched A&D and realized "Oh, that score isn’t all bad!" After the movie was over, I listened to the OST and thought "No, this isn’t bad at all. What the Hell was I thinking?!" And that’s when a thought formed: I wanted to do a Deluxe Edition of Angels & Demons. And this time, I wanted to do it right. So I asked our resident RCP expert: DAKoftheOta. After all, he had done his film mix (EDIT: that he doesn’t endorse anymore since it has been updated) and if there’s one person knowing everything about it, it’s him. I remember him to be almost shocked 😀 But he decided to give the files to me. The only condition he had was that I wouldn’t delete tracks or combine them differently. No problem. So after he’d given me his links, I was able to start.
How?My first task was determining what tracks I would need in order to form a complete set by finding out differences between the complete set and DAKs version. I didn’t want to master two sets at the same time: DAKs set would therefore serve as the starting point, augmented with the complete version when needed. That was my mode of operation and in the end I only needed 10 to 12 pieces from the complete version to complete DAKs set.
I de-noised all tracks I would need (I seem to do a lot of de-noising lately), changed the EQ to my liking so that it would sound well anywhere and altered dynamics so that soft parts would be readily audible. The usual stuff. But for some reason it was much easier here compared to DaVinci Code. The amount of work was roughly the same but somehow I had lots of fun with Angels & Demons. Of course, I combined tracks to form suites. Most of these combinations will be inaudible. And most of them are effectively DAKs crossfades he created for his old film mix. I sometimes expanded them and sometimes I reversed them. After everything was finished, I sent my complete Edition to Fink who then created an 80-minute-CD with it.
So, what will you get?
The complete Edition seems to contain all the music recorded for the score. But since I only had one version of the sessions I don’t know if there’s more. And as usual, I erased something. This time because of hideous quality. The stems that were included with that set were sounding so bad that I couldn’t salvage them. So, as interesting as they were, they had to go. But: there’s still one bonus track. I retitled the "Camerlengo Suite" to "Lament For Il Camerlengo" and moved it to the end of my set. I also included both versions of "160 BPM". The longer version starts the set, the short, edited version ends it. I thought that those pieces would work well as cornerstones.
For those who don’t care for the complete version or the film mix, Fink created a condensed version that will fit on one CD. IMO, that version has the best musical flow of all sets. It’s a tight narrative and Fink achieved everything I was hoping for. I think that it flows even better than the OST.
Looks? Ah yes, the covers. This set contains seven covers by me and one (gorgeous) cover by Heidl. Compared to DaVinci Code, the cover was easy as well. After all, the promonitional campaign contained more posters featuring a superior design. Nonetheless, I struggled. I wanted to add something new, something interesting. So I asked the King of custom covers, Heidl. He immediately offered suggestions and opinions. Without him, I wouldn’t have spotted wrong kerning (I used Microsoft’s version of Garamond which obviously doesn’t contain correct spaces between letters). I also would have done the CDs differently. And finally, he suggested to use a true ambigram for the movies’ title. I tried that, failed miserably and told him so. Without being asked to, I sent him the Photoshop file for the cover containing the Deluxe-Edition-Banner, maybe he would find a way to differentiate it from the cover lacking the banner but which otherwise looked the same. He tried it himself, didn’t like the result and then proceeded to show me two completely different covers (he called them "epic fails"… well, even his "failures" look gorgeous to my eyes). One of them did work exceptionally well. And I told him so. It’s the cover you can see above. In fact, Heidl did what Fink and I had originally planned to do for DaVinci Code: to use art and architecture as a cover. Heidl even surpassed that: he used a picture of a famous staircase in the Vatican AND combined it with ambigrams. So his cover ended up being the only cover you can read from all sides – and it looks beautiful at the same time! But… it took him one day to get the tracklist right. It’s almost impossible to do a tracklist formed like a spiral with Photoshop, I think he went through Hell and back (Inferno, anyone?) to get it done. I will be eternally thankful for his lovely cover… but my conscience is killing me right now. I feel so bad for putting him through this…
Anyway, all covers work for all 3 versions. But not all versions have the same back cover. There are two designs for the One Disc Edition, two designs for DAKs Edition and three (or four?) for the Complete Edition. So again: a lot to choose from! 🙂
Something else? No, don’t think so. Only… I had fun! Surprising, isn’t it? I thought so, too. This score was much better than expected, I like the result (it sounds better than either the sessions or the OST), the flow is superior (especially for Fink’s version), it looks beautiful – thanks to Heidl… and I hope you will have fun as well! 🙂
P.S.: there is a hidden track – but only on the Complete Deluxe Edition 😉
P.S.: give reputation points to Heidl & Fink. They deserve it far more than me.

Cover art is phenomenal.
Thank you very much! 😀
It may have been, but it was still a fun read anyway!
This is quite the powerhouse of people! SA? DAK? Fink? Heldi? Awesome!
I need to finally give these scores a listen, considering I’ve left them in the hard drive for later. I’m really bad when it comes to getting to new music.
I await what you all do next. 🙂
Something else^^
I’ve listened to "160 BPM" from the official release of Angels & Demons before, and I really liked it, probably more so than any of the music from the other two films I’ve heard, so this may end up being my favorite as well. I think I like the feel and essence of it better than any other.

There is none. I like to include hidden tracks that are stylistically, thematically or musically somehow connected to the main program. This one is – sort of – all three.

And again, just like on Captain America (Thread 209644), someone or several gave 1 star.
Why? Because of Mirrorcreator? Because it’s Zimmer? Because you don’t like me? Why? This person / these persons don’t say anything which I would need to change something. Coward / Cowards 🙂
I didn’t get one thing though… The thread title says "3 Versions", but there are links only for two of them. Am I missing something because of my not-excellent English?

Your English is quite good – but I already said that to you. And we did 3 versions (mastering, covers, etc.) but one of them is shared by the original releaser: DAK. That was his wish and I respect that 🙂

Furthermore, I wanted to mention that 0:00 – 0:33 of "Sede Vacante" is one of my favorite sections of any cue I’ve ever heard from Zimmer.
Imma get off my ass now and upload Sonic’s remaster. People are waiting, I know the feeling.

Though – unlike Heidl – I only copied the official German OST cover. Hardly creative…
I may not be the biggest Zimmer fan, but I will gladly take this, as I do think this is a GREAT score 🙂
And thank you very much Reclaimedhalo for the MEGA link you provided!
I’m shocked as well! This has never happened before. Not to me at least. At this place here there must be some truly ugly assholes around. Or some efficient bots.
Hmm, someone here is reporting the links, damn assholes man.

Please someone, re-upload and share again (if necessary via PM)

This email adress doesn’t seem to exist. And Universal Music has got nothing to do with the label that released this score originally: Sony Classical. I find it strange that an automated bot would hide its true owner. So I indeed think that someone is reporting these links.
I don’t share these links anywhere else, just here on shrine.
You are a king among men.
I rediscovered a score which I didn’t like at all on album.
I always loved the music in the film but was disappointed with the album on which many good cues were omitted.
The complete sessions previously shared needed much work to turn them into a smooth listening experience.
You accomplished this and I love the result. Thank you very much for your work.

Hmmm… I’m using jDownloader but it only shows links for part 1 of One Disc Deluxe Edition: ShortUniversalNightmare.rar. I assume there are two parts since WinRAR is asking for part 2 😉
Now after listening to this I thought nothing would top the ost and the short version absolutely nailed it!! Everything you need for a pleasurable listen. I absolutely love it!!
And for the sound as usual beautiful. I’m hearing notes and instruments I couldn’t pick up on the ost because lows or upper end would drown it out. The growing choir on track one I immediately was wowed how it is now all balanced out. Smooth just like butter!!
You have all worked hard and I am appreciated! I savoured every note, every moment in the score as I never have before and I love it even more now!
Also the da Vinci code, same again, amazing listen! Not something I have replaced the ost with as with angels and demons but a great great alternative listen!! And again sound is second to none!
Well done everyone involved in making these and putting your spare unpaid time into it for people who take this place for granted and don’t understand that some people still work their Arse off as well as doing this for all of us to enjoy!!!
I would love sonic to tweak the sound for my gladiator and black hawk down edits 😉 hahaha
Thank you very much everyone!!

About the links, well this is so dump…. i don’t see why people do that, this website is about sharing… well… 🙁

It’s outright unbelievable and borderline scary. I’m a long time Sonic fan, ever since he gave Tron Legacy that abso-fucking-luteley insane treatment (kudos to Metrotokyo for his edition as well) so when I stumbled on this thread I was hit by unparalleled delight. More so, when I read that he had done a similar thing for The Da Vinci Code’s OST (I want to say orgasm, but at the same time I don’t want to weird people out?). Salvaged TDVC code but this reporting behaviour is heartbreaking. Even though I do believe the first movie has the superior score, I was among the first to request DAK’s film edit when it come to be and loved every second of it, so naturally I am craving this.

One explanation: I don’t keep my mouth shut. I believe in honesty, some people don’t like it when they feel that I attack them.
1. It’s not a bot. Someone always reports these links. A bot wouldn’t have got past the ncrypt-link.
2. I do not suspect that someone is mad at me or anyone involved with this release (DAK, Heidl & Fink)
3. I suspect the motive for this reporting is far more prosaic: money.
4. This release is a competing release. Something that will prevent profits for another, similar release and therefore… profits produced by using paid file hosters and links littered with ads.
5. I don’t think that it’s a label doing the reporting. All the reports are coming from mail addresse connected to Universal Music. But many of those releases are not Universal. And how difficult is it really to fake an email signature?
Naturally, I don’t have any proof. Just a suspicion. It doesn’t matter. In the end this behaviour is childish, anal, weak and cowardish. Poor, poor person. And poor poor members of the Shrine who have to suffer because of one person who is immensely immature.
This too shall pass. But yes, it’s quite annoying.
Marvellous! Then I will upload the complete Edition again.
Most Kind Of You, I Was Unable to Aquire The 1CD Addition. My Thanks!
Yeah, this is crazy indeed. I had downloaded Backbiter’s link just fine yesterday, and already shut down, yikes! Although actually what I downloaded from that link was actually the 2-disc Complete version, not Fink’s 80-minute version from what I can tell.

I’ve always been pretty much welded to the ost and I just loved the listening experience of it. There is never a dull moment in the listen. The sound is still Aggressive but I always (I don’t know how) managed to lay ignorant with the sound. When the complete score surfaced i knew it was never for me, too much to digest, very unbalanced and a lot of skipping tracks half way through because they got so boring for me. I used to love having a complete(ish) scores but I seem to have slowly steered away from them and created my own mixes or just used the ost.
Oh, I didn’t see this! Sorry. Thank you very, very much for your kind words. Very appreciated. Finks edit is really good, isn’t it? I think so too.
About davinci code: I would keep the OST too. It is a wonderful representation of the score.
About gladiator: maybe. Though I think that the OST plays very, very good. Having said that, I’ve never listened to your version I’m shocked to say.
About black hawk down: sorry, won’t tackle that, not my cup of tea.

Do you consider sharing via PM, if this bullshit continues? Don’t know if it would make any difference though…
Well, I actually am in doubt about some person sabotaging the links. The possibility exists that it’s more persons doing the damage. I don’t like suspicions, I’d like to have proof.
And I have considered sharing via PM. But I never liked it when I shared Varese-stuff. To that extent that, when it was announced Varese couldn’t be shared anymore, I was so glad and asked for my Varese-threads to be removed completely. Just so that I wouldn’t receive anymore messages for them.
For now 🙂
And thank you.
No, this is the correct place to ask this question 😉
And you can find that track on both sets: on the Complete Edition it’s Track 11, on the 1-CD-Edition it’s the last track.

So I basically took Sonic’s, composited in the original image, with warmer colors on the statues, and sorta blended it all together. I slid his whole image down to make proper headroom for the banner up top, warmed up his Title to match new colors. I’d toyed with using my Marbled title pattern I’d used in my DaVinci Code version, but I couldn’t get the text to look properly, plus Sonic’s is so beautiful here. Anyways, here we go, enjoy!

And don’t forget that I added sparks on Hanks’ right (the viewers’ left) shoulder 😉
You know, I tried this cover with the Deluxe-Edition-banner. I didn’t think that it works. And I still think that it doesn’t work, the banner looks pasted on 😉
