STOKOWSKI – FDS: Holst The Planets & Loeffler A Pagan Poem – DSD Remix/Remaster FLAC

Leopold Stokowski’s 1956 performance of Gustav Holst’s THE PLANETS, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic & Women’s Chorus of the Roger Wagner Chorale, was the first stereo recording of the work, predating Sir Adrian Boult’s British one by half a year (although Boult’s was the first to be released on Stereo LP). Stokowski recorded THE PLANETS for Capitol/EMI in 3 track Full Dimensional Stereo on the soundstage of the Samuel Goldwyn Studios in Hollywood, California. 60 years later, this incredible recording stands the test of time both in performance and in sound. This DSD archived remix/remaster of Holst’s massive orchestral work is derived from a 3 track � inch tape source, preserving the famous “Stokowski Orchestral Sound” and the sonic wonder of the Goldwyn soundstage in digital format. The filler on this download is Stokowski’s superb performance of French-American composer Charles Martin Loeffler’s tone poem A PAGAN POEM, a 23 minute work scored for full symphony orchestra, piano, cor anglais and three off-stage trumpets, so far the only stereo recording ever made of this gorgeous impressionistic work. A PAGAN POEM was recorded in 1957 on the Goldwyn soundstage for Capitol/EMI with Stokowski conducting hand-picked virtuoso freelance players from the Los Angeles Philharmonic & Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestras, including soloists William Kosinski, English horn and Robert Hunter, piano, This combination of Stokowski’s Planets & Pagan Poem, in my opinion, makes for an awesome listening experience.

This is a better production in my opinion. The sound is well-balanced on both speakers or headphones, and no instruments lost when listen through a mono system (like taking the audio on the go through bluetooth speakers and the like). Great job and beautiful work! Thanks for sharing!
