MARVIN HAMLISCH: THE ENTERTAINER 1974 Follow-Up Album to The Sting soundtrack – FLAC

The 1973 MCA Soundtrack Album from the 1973 film, THE STING, proved to be a best seller and the label asked Academy Award Winning composer Marvin Hamlisch to record a studio album of similar arrangements as a follow-up. The result was “The Entertainer”, released in 1974, which featured new arrangements of Scott Joplin rags and ragtime music by other composers. The album was not the success MCA had hoped it would be and it went out of print rather quickly. “The Entertainer” has not been reissued or released on CD as of this writing. This download is from DSD archived original MCA LP in decent (but far from perfect) condition. MCA’s domestic LP pressings were among the worse but I did the best I could to prevent the vinyl aberrations from intruding on the musical content, which is stellar. I hope you find the end result listenable.

I used to have this LP – and are you right about MCA pressings! Hoo boy. The first releases of E. T. and On Golden Pond were practically unlistenable. Nevertheless – thanks for the chance to hear this again!
