Comic Book Crossovers

Really just created this thread to initially share news about upcoming comic crossovers:

DC’S CROSSOVERS SPOTLIGHT BATMAN, THUNDERCATS, AND MORE

Comic book crossovers are always fun, and if today’s DC Comics Crossover Classics panel is any indication, there are plenty of exciting stories on the way.

First on the agenda was Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which wrapped up its six-issue run this past May. It was announced that a hardcover version of the story will be released on August 17th. Writer James Tynion IV and artist Freddie Williams were both on hand to discuss the series, with Williams stating:

�The fact that it exists is amazing."

It was also announced that Batman and the Ninja Turtles would re-team in a way with Batman/TMNT Adventures, featuring the animated series versions of both characters. That series will arrive in November and will be written by Matt Manning with art by Jon Sommariva.

Next up was a sequel to last year’s Star Trek/Green Lantern event. Writer Mike Johnson will re-team with artist Angel Hernandez for what editor Jim Chadwick described as:

�A direct sequel, anyone who dies in the first one is still dead. Hal Jordan and the other surviving Lanterns are now part of Starfleet…we see more of the Star Trek universe and the DC universe, so the scale is bigger.�

There were also hints of a Green Lantern Tribble, so keep an eye out for that.

The biggest news coming out of the event once again featured Batman, this time for an inter-company crossover entitled Night of the Monster Men. This six-issues series will be the first event of DC Rebirth and crossover between the Batman, Detective Comics, and Nightwing titles. Writer Steve Orlando gave fans an idea of what to expect from his story.

"The Monster Men are the largest and most horrific threat that has ever come to Gotham City…this is the Batman movie that Guillermo del Toro would love to direct."

The story will focus on Batman, Batwoman, and Nightwing, whom Orlando referred to as "The trinity of Gotham City", as they battle against enormous kaiju-style monsters. Night of the Monster Men begins on September 21st.

In non-Batman news, October 5th will see the debut of the Thundercats/He-Man crossover from Rob David and James Goldfine with art by Freddie Williams. When asked how he approached an event of this scope, David had this to say:

�You have to go big, not squander this opportunity and make it as epic as everyone wants it to be, but also get into these great emotional cores of these characters [Prince Adam and Lion-O]."

We were shown several early sketches, with Williams noting that he’s using a style similar to his work on Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He and David also announced that these would be the versions of the characters first seen in the classic 80s cartoons.

Not much of a comic reader. But apparently there’s a ton of crossovers. I read a crossover comic involving BatmanSpiderman, Batman/Daredevil, Batman/Spawn. Enjoyed them. No doubt like the constant flow of movies, TV sows and videogames, comics are flowing nonstop at rapid speed. Your thoughts on any of the aforementioned crossovers? If done right, they could make good movies. But considering the current direction of DC and Marvel, not anytime soon.

I read the big Marvel vs. DC event from the 90s. It was a fun read, even if it was a dumb event. Didn’t get to Amalgam or the proper conclusion of it though. Recommended.
