I got this directly from James Horner’s assistant a few years ago. I thought I would sgare the real promo score to Apollo 13 with no f/x and in Lossless!

The complete sessions have also been around for three years now, which are also lossless and free of sound effects, and this promo has circulated for years. It’s still cool and all, but I’m not sure why the need to hype this one up when the sessions rendered it obsolete (to some, though it is a good "album" presentation) a while back.

I wouldn’t say it’s obsolete at all, since as you said, it’s a solid album presentation. For some, "raw" recording sessions are next to useless, a good example is a new post for the "complete" scores for Star Wars episodes 2 & 3, showcasing 3 hours of music for a 2 hour movie. Those dozens of cues lasting 30 seconds are maddening. The complete score to Silvestri’s Avengers has been available in good quality for some time now, but again, it’s made up of 30-40 cues or more, lots of short tracks with no real beginning or ending. For me that isn’t listenable.

Don’t even get me started on including slate numbers. Who needs that? 😀

And yeah, this particular promo disc has been posted before, but some folks maybe missed it, and the forum’s search function can be flighty. So, good for those who like a more coherent listen and don’t need every single second separated into individual bites :p

It’s all good.

Hey mikewp, if you’re referring to my contribution to the everlasting "complete scores" debacle concerning Star Wars, they’re hardly ‘complete’, as you put it. Not to mention there are probably alternates for just about every cue. "Those dozens of cues" don’t last 30 seconds either, I don’t know where you got that idea? I agree about the Silvestri Avengers score though, THAT had a lot of short cues indeed. A custom version was done afterward that was much more pleasing to listen to.

Slate numbers are very convenient because in most cases they simply tell you which cue goes where, because not all track names are as straightforward as others 😉

Those are all fine points, but the Apollo 13 session leak is an exception to the rule. The entire thing could be pressed to disc with no changes and still be a great album because it doesn’t suffer any of the issues most of these leaks have. It’s just as good as the promo in that regard only truly complete. Compare the promo with the complete (or even my custom of the complete, which only has the difference of combining the alternates with the original versions to shorten the run time) and there won’t be a difference because this score doesn’t have separated little pieces like that. The complete is fully polished like the promo.
