MEGA: Bandwidth quota exceeded

Hello all. Um, I wanted to download something from the Shrine today, it was uploaded on MEGA, but some kind of an error occured telling me that my bandwidth quota was exceeded. Now, what does that even mean, exactly? It was the first and only thing I wanted to download today, it’s not like I downloaded thousands of files in the last hour or something, so I don’t get it. It’s the first time I got an error like that, is it normal? I have no account on MEGA, neither paid nor free, but I never had and thus far it wasn’t a problem. The reason I’m asking about it is because many people here tend to upload to MEGA these days and I’d like to be able to use it like I did before.

Oh, should it be of any importance, I’m using Opera web browser and the file I wanted to get weights around 273MB (Banner Saga 2 OST).

Try to change your IP address and then download the file which returned that thing.

Register with a free account and see if that helps your issue.

I see, thanks for the advice. I’ve been reading about it just now, they definitely are doing something, but nobody – MEGA management included – seems to know what exactly. Very strange. I just hope it won’t block me (and any others) off from MEGA. Anyway, thanks again.

This isn’t enforced most of the time – it seems to come and go. Keep the link and try it daily or a few times weekly. When whoever it is wraps around to a new month of bandwidth you should be able to grab it.

This will not only give you ample extra bandwidth but also 50 GB of secure storage space in the cloud – for free", which seems to be referring somehow to me and my download limit or whatever. I tried downloading a few different files after that happened for the first time and all of them were like that. Then again, I know nothig about MEGA, so you may be right.

The actual message suggests that your provider’s public IP range in your vicinity has exceeded their transfer allowance, i.e.; too many people in your neighbourhood downloading from MEGA. It sounds weird but that’s what the message suggests.

Oh, OK – that looks like a different issue.

Could this be a shared IP issue? That would make more sense.

I think so, yes. Companies especially have a public IP address (https://www.iplocation.net/public-vs-private-ip-address) range but my guess is most providers do this for regular people as well. We’re running out of IPv4 addresses (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv4_address_exhaustion) so I’m guessing whereas the public IP address was at first a solution for companies only, it’s now being used on a more global scale.

Hm. I used to get crap like that all the time, while I was "using" my previous Internet provider; rapidshare.de and rapidshare.com often showed me: It looks like your IP address is already downloading a file, you have to wait for that download to finish, before you can start a new one. Premium users don’t have this limitation, blah blah blah. Couldn’t even fix it "manually," at the time, IP address was static.
My previous advice was given under the assumption that Ordensritter has a dynamic IP, if that’s the case, a potential fix for the issue at hand would just require him/her to power off the modem and wait 15~30 seconds before powering it up again. No need to register an account, either.

It can’t hurt to register an account, though. It’s bound to come in useful sooner or later.

Also true, but there are folks who seemingly don’t like to register accounts on that kind of websites, preferring to keep downloading as mere visitors. Heck, we’ve had users express annoyance at having to register an account on the likes of 4shared, in order to download from there (just to make an example), let’s sidestep the notion that doing so would grant small benefits like: file management+the ability to protect the link with a password, maybe…

That’s why I tend to point out a possible solution which won’t require an account. Bless the ignorance of those Web-pirates, though. :laugh:

I think my IP is a static one (though I’m not sure about it, it’s all Greek to me), but just in case I tried out that solution with powering off my modem and powering it back on after a brief moment. Sadly, it didn’t help. I guess I’m banned from MEGA unless I create an account with them. Oh well. Anyway, thanks to all of you for your suggestions, much appreciated.

found the solution: go to your mega menu —>reload (do that at least twice just in case…and it works!

It seems to be only temporary as now I can use MEGA without any problems. The only advice I can give you is to wait (sounds like nothing, I know). It will pass eventually.

No it doesn’t. MEGA is caping downloads everywhere. It might not be noticeable to everyone because it’s doing it on certain IP ranges, but it’s getting ridiculous. I was able to download more than 1GB files every now and then. Now the only way to get those is using megasync, otherwise I can never get those. And sometimes, after the 4 hours have passed, I can barely download 200 mb before being capped again.

Make no mistakes, they’re enforcing people to use the premium service.

I now use Google Chrome exclusively for Mega downloads, and the problem has gone away.

Honestly, I don’t remember. I guess it was about a week, maybe more. I know it was long enough for me to give up on MEGA. By the way, I might be wrong here, but I think it passed once the new month arrived. It might have been a coincidence, though. As AFMG said, it might be something bigger, that makes sense.

well, i tried again this morning, it worked and at 51% of downloading…the message again…they really want me to go to premium…
