Synopsis.
Released in 1973 Fear Is The Key followed a long line of film adaptations of best-selling author Alistair Maclean’s thriller novels
of the calibre of The Guns Of Navarone and Where Eagles Dare. The soundtrack highlights Roy Budd’s enormous composing talent
at its very best overseeing a line-up of the cream of British musicians.
They include Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes, Kenny Baker, Chris Karan and Jeff Clyne. Much of this jazzy orchestral score was
recorded live to picture and the sheer exuberance of the playing bursts out of every track. The tour-de-force is the stunning
ten minute Car Chase complete with the sound of police sirens screeching tyres and a blistering sax courtesy of Ronnie Scott.
Thank you very much for the link!
Thank You Peter for the corrective information..much appreciated.
An oversight on my part.

Fear is The Key – Roy Budd (OST)
I don’t know about you, but Our Hero on the cover looks plenty scared to me.
Who is he fearing, and why?
Did a gang of eeevil, Communistic, internet music-pirates jump out from the bushes and try to sell him magazine subscriptions? That might explain how Our Hero had to kick some Pirate Ass. Perhaps he lost his shirt in the fight, resulting in his having to parade about, showing off all his manly bulges?
Does his sub-machine gun have all the proper permits? What about registration? Is he bonded against property damage and civilian collateral damage??
And how come, as he’s bustin’ caps in Pirate Ass, he’s not looking down range at his target? Instead, he gives the audience a knowing look as if to say, "Hey, check out my sweet man-bulges. Don’t you wish you could be as cool as I look?"
Talk about your undying cliches! Really, haven’t we all been down this road countless times with that has been, Arnold Schwarzenegger?
And what about the Helpless Female, huddled close and clinging on our hero’s arm. Check out her body language. She looks very worried, like she’s ripe for a nervous breakdown. Look at her, she’s in knots! Poor thing needs a hug and a shoulder to cry on.
Meanwhile, Our Hero wastes valuable ammo while exhibiting devil-may-care macho-ness. He seems cluelessly unconcerned about Helpless Female’s needs for a hug, a good listener, and a cup of chamomile tea.
Unfortunately, he’s too preoccupied with his own Macho Fantasies to take care of her. He’d rather play Guns and Pirates with his new friends: obviously another dreadful example of Peter Pan Syndrome! Expect this clueless bastard to sleep on the sofa tonight!
Seems to me that if he were a Real Man, she wouldn’t need to be afraid. Of anything.
On the other hand, if he really is a Real Man, then perhaps that’s why she’s afraid… of him)!
Being insatiably curious about these and other matters, I couldn’t resist downloading this soundtrack. It’s my only hope of finding the answers to my above questions and to many other deeeep thoughts.
Of course, I could just watch the film. That might lend clues which lead to a satisfactory resolution of my cat-like curiosity in a mere fraction of the time spent this way. But watching a film wouldn’t be nearly as much fun as keeping myself in suspense.
Thanks for the upload and link, Mike!
There isn’t much more I can say after your post my friend…
I did enjoy your analysis of the movie poster though… 🙂
Many thanks in advance!
