In my youth I amused myself to the excessive sound and demonstrating my HiFi equipment. The beloved recording of mine is the old EMI Kempe Staatskapelle Dresden quadrophonic recording. In that case, you might be interested to know that, in the coming weeks, I’m going to purchase BIS’ Frank Shipway/Sao Paulo Symphony SACD of Alpensinfonie and will be posting Surround Sound versions of the .flac extracts.
Cheers and Many Thanks
Thank you once more for your passion and very sure taste, dear bobtheknob !!!

If you had mentioned the Shipway-Sao Paulo recording on BIS (which I have posted here in Surround Sound, and will have restored soon), then I could believe that, but we are clearly looking for some very different things in our tastes. I’m not familiar with the Luisi/Dresden or the Harding/Saito Kinen recordings, but I think I’ll stick with the Blomstedt and Shipway recordings for now.
Karajan-Berlin (other than one brief moment where the 1st Trumpet sounds like they’re about to fall out of their chair while reaching for a high note) and Jarvi-Royal Scottish are also very good, especially if you like bass trombones, as is the Previn-Philadelphia recording (which should be subtitled, "Concerto for Flatulent Bass Trombone and Mountains"). (I might post this one sometime, just for the fun of it.)
Haitink-Amsterdam is another very highly regarded one.
Avoid the Solti version, however. For all the wonderful recordings he did during his career, Alpensinfonie is not one of them. Solti took his trek through the Alps in a Hummer with a battering ram on the front.
But out of all these, Blomstedt and Shipway are still my two favorites.
