Listening to the radio while drifting off to sleep I was stirred by an orchestral piece I couldn’t identify. It started soft and then built louder and louder and concluded off the Richter Scale… the host stated it was Grainger (whose work I have very little) and the music was a gift for his new wife: TO A NORDIC PRINCESS and the premiere witnessed by an estimated audience between 15,000 to 20,000 at the Hollywood Bowl- then the host added in a droll and ostensibly unimpressed fashion: "The composer had a tenancy to be ‘showy.’"

Nevertheless, I found it very notable.

If interested, leave a charming message here to receive the link.

I love Percy Grainger’s music, especially for piano.

May I have a link?

Evidently Grainger had been fascinated by all things Scandinavian… which included the folk songs and the various women he fuddled around… this disc represents his Nordic fascination… and his gift to his wife is a real ‘curl your toe nails’ piece of music. 😉

Enjoy

There, I think I am all caught up. Do post what you think of the music, I am curious if the organ and all those clashing tubular bells at the end of the PRINCESS piece is found to be as dramatic as I found it to be.
