Thou cannot deny that thou did not think of this the second thou saw how short some of these cues are. It’s a little ridiculous.

But I’m at the beginning of another film mix atm. And I wanna wait cause I feel someone else may do this. You know it’s inevitable that there’s going to be a million and one TFA edits, just like there’s a million and one edits of the entire saga.

Technically, music was ‘isolated’ down to back channels of the bluray, but that doesn’t make the commercial product given out on some dvd’s/bd’s.

This wasn’t a studio produced isolated score.

Calling this an ‘isolated score’ just makes things more difficult for us users who DO collect isolated scores.

This is new territory for film music. It borrows a lot from the film entertainment side of things (studio produced).

So, the iTunes extras for Episode VII were updated recently with a new documentary, I ripped it and was able to get some more unreleased music:

I used "eac3to" to generate an "AC3" audio file .. then I used "premiere CC 2015" to cut it .. u will find some sfx (wind) in the biginning but in my opinion its ok .. otherwise we would loose this part

Spartank already sent me a new file (FLAC, 24bit, 7.1, 48kHz) .. I dont want to be in rush with this one .. it will take some time (will try and find better audio programs (studio one etc) to find the best way and solution

Unfortunately, there are some other cues that Faleel forgot to isolate… For example, there’s a cue when the Starkiller base is ‘charging’ the weapon by absorbing the sun, that features a variation on a theme used also in the beginning of "Attack on the Jakku Village". I was really hoping for it as well as a film version of The Ways of the Force.

What do you mean by "original intentions"? I saw it on multiple Star Wars threads, but never get the meaning. I think none but John Williams himself knows the "original intentions". All we can do is collecting as much as possible of his work…

It means as it was written and recorded, not how a music editor mutilated it.

I know Williams wasn’t particularly happy with how Episode I was approached, but I don’t know the rest. A film edit isn’t always a bad thing (a lot people actually enjoy and want them), but it’s not always the best.

But if you’re using the Blu-Ray audio channels as a source, wouldn’t this then be more akin to a complete film mix score (i.e. as heard in the film) and not so much as John Williams intended it?
Also, do we already have enough information on that? I can assume that there’s so much info on Episode I by now that we have a pretty good idea of how Williams originally intended it, as we all know that George Lucas butchered the finale by intercutting three different battles instead of letting the Jedi/Sith battle roam free on its own, but do we already know that Paul Apelgren and Ramiro Belgardt effectively cut up Williams’ music? (I assume they would be to blame, if it indeed happened).

Who was it for Episode I btw? Ken Wannberg and Shawn Murphy?

Then, the "original intentions" is basically the Recording Sessions. The very tracks John Williams wrote, conducted and recorded himself, unmastered, unedited, untouched.

Nothing was "butchered" at all. It’s his movie and it has to be presented as he wants it. You might as well say that every movie was ‘butchered’ including TFA. That is how film scoring works.

"Butchering" is going on right from the recording sessions. What JW comes into the sessions with and what they end up with by the time they are done is a different thing. Then JW himself "butchers" that to create an album where they take about all the music that really is there for film reasons due to the scene, the pace etc not musical ones.

On the whole the Star Wars movies are probably just about the most pure music driven movies of all time where JW really gets to be working the music to the emotion of the scene.
