I think it depends on what you are going for – sound recording, video editing, photo editing, etc. Mac is pretty decent at it. I guess the reality for me is that I spent way too much money on a machine whose potential I would never really use. They aren’t terrible, I just think they are super overpriced.

Also, you can customize PC’s so much more and if you run into problems it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. My macbook recently fucked up and I can’t do anything about it because they stopped making my macbook and the Apple store wants to charge me a butt load to fix it.

It just depends on the type of person. People who don’t want to be assed with customizing, optimizing or fixing anything themselves often love Apple because of the "it just works" philosophy. This is true, Apple products are very intuitive and things generally just do what you want them to do without any fiddling around on the user’s part.

Personally, I like fiddling and researching/figuring out how to make stuff work. I hate the sterile mental hospital room aesthetic of Apple products. And I know that if I buy an Apple computer I will pay much more for the hardware I’m getting than if I purchased a PC with equivalent hardware. In fact for any Mac I could almost guarantee you could spend less money for a more powerful PC.

I know lots of people who love the way Apple does things and they don’t want to change and that’s cool I guess if it works for them even though it makes no sense to me. Just a preference issue in the end.

When it comes to smartphones I’ve barely ever even touched an iphone. I don’t know or care really. I still have a galaxy S4 and I can’t imagine any reason I’d want to upgrade. In fact before that I had the S3 and didn’t want to upgrade but MetroPCS forced me to, the jerkoffs.

I don’t give a fuck if the newest version can send all my contacts information to someone by waving it in arcane patterns or detect gravitational waves or something. I use it for GPS, looking things up on wikipedia, listening to music and on rare annoying occasions communicating with people.

Well what I will say is that when it comes to laptops, from a hardware perspective, there’s not much difference in how hands on it is. It’s not like if you buy a PC laptop you’re going to be going in there and replacing the graphics card, you get what you get. If something breaks you will probably have to take it to a professional to fix it anyway, though that will probably still be cheaper than what the apple store charges to fix stuff (I don’t know but I hear a lot of stories from people like Solaris who basically are told by Apple that the cost of fixing their shit is enough to just buy a new one anyway).

That said you will definitely get a better deal with a PC. Lenovo makes really awesome laptop/tablet hybrids that are slick like Macs but without the whole Apple aspect to it. I have one of those and I fucking love it.

On the other hand, another important factor to consider is privacy. Apple has shown themselves to respect it a fair bit recently, not only refusing to build an iOS backdoor for the FBI but then telling the public that the FBI asked them for it and they said no which was a pretty bold move. If you go with a modern Windows laptop, you’re going to get Windows 10, which is basically big brother. So that’s a factor if it’s something you care about.

expandable storage is one of the main reasons i love android. i can buy the cheapest base model and then pop in a 128 gb card with no issue and save several hundred dollars.

I have trouble doing things on a Mac but it’s because I’m so used to using PC, not because it isn’t user friendly.

For the older people in my family, an iphone or an ipad is way easier for them to use than an android of the same form. I’ll have to agree with TK there – it is more intuitive for them. There isn’t so much to focus on (in terms of customizing or figuring out programs, etc.) and everything is pretty much laid out there for you and tends to perform the simple function it is set to do.

But, I think for us younger folk we can adapt easily to using an iphone or an android. I know right now whenever I am handed an android phone I find it confusing, but if I spend a couple of hours playing with I’ll have it all figured out.

Yeah I used to be into heavy customization with desktops, building or repairing them for friends but now days I just use my laptop for everything and my two old custom PC’s gather dust. I used to use them for gaming mostly but I pretty much play with my PS2/3 consoles now.

I use both a Mac and a PC regularly and I can tell you that the PC is the far more flexible of the two; you can just do more with it. Macs are for old ladies who just keep family photos and not much else on their computers.

Actually, if you’re an editor of some kind, Macs can be useful, or rather, Apple’s software. Final Cut Pro is great, and I hear Compressor is useful for making authored Blu-rays and DVD (haven’t tried it myself yet).

iTunes used to be all right, but I don’t like what Apple’s done to it in recent years. I also hate how updates were forced upon you.
