Removing gifs from GD would be like taking the kiddie-pool away from a swimming facility after all the adults have left.

Gifs are good when they’re used correctly and you actually, you know, post good ones.

OK let me clarify this so everybody can settle the fuck down.

First off, how do you guys not know when I’m not being serious yet. No one is going to take away your GIFs and I don’t have that kind of influence anyway.

Second, GIFs are like semicolons. The semicolon is a perfectly legitimate piece of punctuation. But amateur writers often seem to think it’s the best piece of punctuation ever devised, because they think it makes their sentences look sophisticated or gives an air of erudition or whatever. You see semicolons in every other bloated sentence they write. Semicolons in places where there should just be a period. Sometimes even in places where there should just be a comma. Semicolons, fucking everywhere. And then you stop reading, unless the person happens to be a member of the high school writing club you participate in and you’re obligated to read the rest of their shitty Tolkien ripoff to provide a critique of it at the next meeting. Then you just suffer.

From your point of view. I think as devices and systems have got more sophisticated, things like the GIFs have become common place for a vast majority of folks. Especially the younger ones. A kind of shorthand. Nearly every media these days is vid compatible. If it isn’t visual, it is not relevant to a vast number of folks these days. Just my observation as a person with no vested interest either way.
