Worked on this little piece for my piano class, and decided what better way to complete the project than to improvise and compose a small piece?

Currently working on a string arrangement and incorporating the piano, want to make it more expressive and emotional as well, opening with a wonderful soft cello solo, vibrato, very slow, soothing. Can’t wait to work on this.

The whole piece took about 20 minutes to figure out the theme, then I just kept practicing it and memorizing the harmonies, etc. I am actually very happy with this composition.

Feedback? What do you guys think? I made it for a piano commercial that we had to make for our piano class in college. Simple, but lovely, imo.

It’s very nice. Reminds me of Finding Nemo.

There are so much musical compositions I enjoy that are, the keyword: ‘simple’. One can be so simple, yet so entertaining.
I think the main stakes and dependencies are the quality of sound (equipment, how good it sounds, etc), and the composition itself.

I actually "dabble" in musical composition myself. Well, maybe not "dabble". There should be another word I’m looking for…

I like it. There’s a pretty good simple, but very nice, relaxing and inspiring melody right there.

Okay.

What a very important, and helpful comment. Really, helps and adds a lot to the thread. Thank you.

Are you really doing what I think you’re doing?

Probably. I get ‘inspired’ by music really easily to do or at least mess around with something. My objective is usually to make something similar but different.

Very Thomas Newman-y, as others have said! He has a very special signature style; I wonder if this means you’ll have your own special style as well when you become a famous composer? 😉

Wouldn’t that be awesome! I think everyone has their own special style, even when similar to others.

No idea what mine is… I haven’t completed enough songs to know.

I do love Thomas Newman’s style.

I’m pretty sure if I ever took up trying to compose, it would be horror.

 Not knowing what i would be doing, it would sound like a musical nightmare.
Anyone who knows music would have to ask if I knew what I was doing.

"Yes. It’s new-age horror music" :smrt:

Funny. Can you guys picture that possibility? Imagine a few years from now he starts composing for movies. Imagine people in this forum wanting to grab the score hardcore.. lol. I am picturing it, and it’d be fun.

I kinda see Lockdown pulling a Patrick Doyle though.

Nah… Lockdown would Be a New Brian Tyler.

I know, but with pulling a Patrick Doyle, is that I see him not wanting his scores to get posted here. He’ll probably deny me this now, but we’ll see in a few years, when he has to live by money.

Ah, kidding, don’t take me serious in this. If he ever got into composing for movies, I guess he’d win enough money not to care about people pirating it.. and having pirated soundtracks himself, he’d understand.
