Satorare (“Transparent”) (lossless/flac)
The full title for this 2002 TV fantasy-comedy is “Kokoro no Koe Ga Satorareu” and it’s about a young doctor whose mind can be read by anyone within 12 meters, and the beautiful nurse who tries to shield him from the consequences of his uniqueness. There’s drama too, like when the doctor needs to perform surgery on his dying mom. Oshima’s score captures both moods, with some playful tunes balanced by several pretty waltzes and piano solos. I’ve always been curious about the red silhouette used in the artwork, but now realize it’s the young doctor with a loudspeaker on his head broadcasting his thoughts.
