Michael Giacchino – Zootopia (Zootropolis) [FLAC]

Here it is, the soundtrack to the most awaited animated movie of the year.. at least, for me! The movie just premiered today in Spain, and eventually, (happily for me) the soundtrack just went along with it! Thanks to Lockdown for noticing it to me, it was in the iTunes Store of Spain, I bought that thing as fast as I could! And I’m gonna try to get the CD as soon as I see one over here!

The movie was called Zootropolis in some places of Europe, including the UK, and Spain, and since this is a Spain digital release, the title of the album says Zootropolis (Banda Sonora Original) and the cover just simply says Zootropolis. It may be an annoyance to the americans that are getting this but I’m hoping you don’t mind and enjoy the music nonetheless. Giacchino really did a good job! While it doesn’t leave a huge grasp on you like his Pixar scores – it’s still a great variated score, with lots of different styles of music in it – from buddy cop, to thriller, to music, romantic-italian, and even indian/buddhist! There’s also lot of emotional music that seems to par greatly with the movie, and lots of catchy, well-written melodies in it. So overall, it’s quite a score! If I had one complain.. would probably be that the best cues of the soundtrack seem the most shortest, and that it doesn’t look complete for now! But maybe it’s actually complete, who knows.

So, just because I love this movie and I’m the biggest fan of the movie in this forum, I am truly pleased to share this with you guys, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do (both the movie and the soundtrack).. and.. you’re welcome for the month early release.. (because it comes out in the US in March 4th) hehe.. just kidding. I hope you enjoy it, and take in consideration my share. Don’t forget to buy it if you can, whenever the soundtrack is available to you in your country!

The movie just came out today in Spain, and the soundtrack with it. I had the feeling the soundtrack someway or another had to come with the early releases of February, and I was happy to know my gut was right, and the soundtrack came along with it! I’m glad that I’m gonna be able to hear the soundtrack anytime I want after I watch the movie. I hope you enjoy the "early exclusivity" 😉 Hehe. I have also found a digital FLAC for it, but I cannot buy it at the moment as I do not have the funds, but if I happen to get them, I’ll most likely share the FLAC, too.

The news came around last year after the summer, maybe? Way back in 2014, there were rumours that John Powell was gonna work on the movie, but it all seemed to be just a rumour kept around for too long! The fact that John Powell (my favourite composer) wasn’t gonna be in did upset me, but at the same time, I trusted that Mick would do a great score, as he’s good at animated movies – and darn right he did not dissapoint! It’s a gorgeous score all over 🙂

I want to inform you all that I have succesfully bought the digital, 16-bit/44.1kHz FLAC version of the album in 7digital. There’s a 99% chance that if the thing is legit good web FLAC, I shall add it to this thread. Who’d be interested in it? I’m probably gonna upload it anyway, but I’m curious to know. Would you guys appreciate that, too? 🙂

Whenever I get the CD, I’ll also do a EAC rip on it. But this one may take a bit longer.

I listened to it, and I have to say….I didn’t like it at all.

Oh? And why is that, care to elaborate a while? After more listen, I could get why you don’t like it. It’s more of good melodies that tend to repeat, and nice emotional cues, but at the end, doesn’t seem like a score like the ones for Pixar, nonetheless, albeit with flaws, it’s still a decent score to listen sometimes. It does go well with the picture and sometimes as a standalone listen. The emotional music are the best of the picture/score.

One of the few movie interesting of 2016 for me.

It is good, trust my word. Though I consider there’s a bit more interestings movies over 2016!

He’s always great at animated scores, just like Powell, so of course I trusted he’d do a good job! And kinda. For the picture they fit!

To be honest, I only got to listen to about half of it. I already gave some of my opinion in the Currently Listening / Watching thread, but some of my favorite tracks are the upbeat ones, with dat ethnic percussion, STRAIGHT UP!

I would say we got a good 70% of the music on the CD, hitting pretty much every major note the film has (though I wouldn’t have minded something to go between "Grey’s Uh-Mad At Me" and "Ticket To Write". Maybe the pieces were too short for inclusion though). It’s one of the better put-together Giacchino OSTs of recent years for sure. Maybe Disney should be in charge of putting together the Star Trek OSTs from now on 😛

Don’t know if that’ll happen, though I’d be really happy if it did (though I wouldn’t count on the film extensions for "Try Everything" being in there). I know Disney sessions can be tricky to get hold of – just look at how long it took for TLK to come out. I’m okay with the way they do their OSTs these days.

You’re right in that. I liked the film version of Try Everything, too!

Damn straight. They never do include film versions of songs on OSTs, from what I can see, and the CD did have enough space (there was just under 20 minutes of space given a CD can hold 80 minutes)

The soundtrack album suites that Michael Giacchino does are never the same as featured in the end credits of movies.

Apart from The Joy of Credits from Inside Out, I don’t think the Suites are meant for the end credits but just end up used for them anyway. Into Darkness used the Ode To Harrison suite, for instance, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t meant to be used there.

In this instance, I do think the material fits in the album suite and that it was simply edited out.

Thinking on it, there’s no way this won’t get nominated for FYC season and I really hope an FYC promo for the score comes out with more material.

Rogue One’s not even been finished yet and the score hasn’t hate a note recorded yet. TFA was a very last minute addition last year IIRC.

I understand Disney FYCs tend to be a mixed bag. Pixar FYCs had no new material last year, but TFA (for sure) and Cinderella (apparently) did.

Good news: Zootopia’s going for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.

Bad news: they submitted the official OST for the nomination (http://www.waltdisneystudiosawards.com/#/zootopia/music). So no new material. Ah, well. I’m sure a complete or expanded version will leak out at some stage.

I’d rather have Zootopia win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.. I hope it does.
