One of Goldenthal’s finest work.
It helps if you don’t view it as a conventional Final Fantasy story.
Sure, it shares something you might see in a snippet of the games.
But it only carries over some names and no real substance from the existing franchise.

No chocobos, no summons, no mogs.
No materia either.

But as an American production, it’s just a movie that did well without any reference whatsoever to anything pre-existing.
You can go on record saying it’s just a movie on its own, as such it did good and the score is excellent.

A lot of Goldenthal’s signature throaty bass.

BTW love a good studio noise here and there. Makes you feel like you just sat in the booth. Or even musicians talk. There was an "Awwww" after a Demolition Man sweet cue for example.

The previous "complete" bootleg was sourced from the DVD isolated score presentation mixed with cues from the album. These are the raw sessions which are unlike both the isolated score and the album in that the isolated score tracks music from other places in the film which obviously isn’t mixed like that in the sessions. It feels like there’s stuff missing from the sessions but I’m not 100% sure. I haven’t located all of the tracked material from the opening scene yet but it’s just the cue leading up to takeoff. It’s a percussive piece that I haven’t been able to find on the sessions.

The album is its own nightmare. The Dream cues are mixed into a single suite on the album while split up on the sessions plus there’s some music not heard in either the film or album between the two sources.

It’s possible that said music may not have been composed by Goldenthal or that it was added last minute after the archive of sessions had been created. I’ve seen it happen before, so it’s not impossible. Just one guess.

I compared the sessions to the sheet music and there’s really nothing of significance missing. Maybe one or two very short cues.
