I have that very LP, bought it back in the 80ies. I believe it’s quite rare by now. A great share, this is awsome tv music from the old times, pure Herrmann!

A very, very nice surprise indeed !
Can’t see the titles but I guess they’re different compositions from both Prometheus volumes.
Many, many thanks for that one !
🙂
I have bad news for you: Benny passed away almost 40 years ago, and I don’t think we will get new Herrmann music. But on the bright side: There are many scores released, and some even un-released, and therefore… Oh, you meant new for YOU… I see. Yes, if this is new to you, grab it and enjoy it! This is great music!! 🙂

Never heard of this one until today !

If you are referring to "Bernard Herrmann: The CBS Years – Vol. 2 – Prometheus PCD 153 (released in 2003), no it’s the same contents. The Prometheus re-release has 26 tracks, that’s because they merged some shorter tracks into bigger ones (Petros has put the track list into his post, so you may have realised that already).
Ah… Pity…
Thanks for the clarification, though… 😉
Take care.

Many thanks to you, Doug, for sharing this. 🙂 Wonderful stuff!
Take care.
But I’m curious about the last track #33 which lasts 19’25” – it seems doesn’t belong this album, sort of bonus track?
Would be much obliged for any information =)

I have the LP, which has 15 + 18 = 33 tracks. The last track (B18. The Landmark Theme, 1:38) would be track #33 and shouldn’t run 19’25". I’m curious how that can be. Somehow, this LP rip can’t be an exact representation of the LP, if it’s true what you have observed.
Actually the track-list of this rip is a bit messed up:
#1 including both of the first tracks from LP – The Walt Whitman Suite Prelude & Processional
#2 is the third track called Exuberance
and so on…
#32 is The Landmark Theme
Thank you very much for the link, Doug!

Petros had it right, his track list of the LP is correct. "Prelude" and "Processional" are two seperate tracks (SIDE A, track 01 and 02), not one track. Still wondering what that final 19’25" min track of this rip is all about….
I beg your pardon, but did you really gave a listen to what was uploaded?
Petros of course typed the correct track list for this release, but there is no way that total duration can be 01:01:00
So, I created a track list from the back cover.
When I received the link from Doug, I noticed that the total duration of his file was 61 min.
I have no idea what exactly track No 33 is.
Petros of course typed the correct track list for this release, but there is no way that total duration can be 01:01:00
That’s what I was trying to say before: Petros’ list is correct (but not the total duration of 01:01:00. It’s rather just about 38-39 mins., which I can confirm, since I own the original LP).
So my question still remains: What’s about that added track of 19:25?
And no, I didn’t give it a listen yet, since at first I thought it’s an exact rip of what I have on my LP. But that mysterious added track made me curious, so I requested the link earlier today. As soon as I have it, I’ll be back and tell you what it’s all about (provided I recognize the music, of course).
"The Kentuckian (suite)", from the 1955 movie of the same name! Not sure who conducted this, probably a re-recording. I’ll find that out soon…
Bernard Herrmann conducted the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
It’s in the Preamble edition "Bernard Herrmann Anthology, Vol. 3: The Inquirer" (1992).
Almost correct, mon ami… almost. However, the suite of "The Kentuckian" on this sampler was conducted by Fred Steiner. The rest was conducted by Tony Bremner and Bernard Herrmann.
Here are the specifics for this release, which confirms this:

Thanks ever so much! Your knowledge is astonishing
Walt Whitman suite (1944 CBS radio) 1-15
Brave New World (1956 CBS radio) 16-23
Collector’s Item (1958 CBS TV detective show pilot) 24-32
The Kentuckian suite (1955 film) 33 [NOT The Landmark Theme]
Thanks!

Has anyone The Landmark Theme, by chance?
Thank you!
