In 2013 year Firma Melodiya won the ICMA trophy in the category Historical Recordings with CD Igor Stravinsky. Les Ballets Russes. CD features the first three ballets of the composer: The Firebird (conductor Dmitri Kitaenko, 1984), Petrushka(conductor Pierre Boulez, 1990) and The Rite of Spring (conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev, 1981). The jury confirmed the accomplished fact: in this case Melodiya is an intermediary between the genius of the composer, the skill of the performers, and listeners. Our mission is to let the audience hear the great music and outstanding performers. Yesterday, on April 10, 2013 a concert of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Fedoseyev was held in the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory. Before the performance the General Director of Firma Melodiya presented one of the statuettes to Vladimir Fedoseyev – ICMA prizewinner.

Stunning download – anymore? These Melodiya recordings are among the best out there. All 3 performances are top-notch. Kitaenko’s Firebird is much better than his CHANDOS version and the Boulez & Fedoseyev performances are also of great value and importance. Happy New Year 🙂
