Beware everyone! Read this before you download it, please!
This set is a compilation of the Hunger Games movie scores, composed by James Newton-Howard. I always loved this composer. But when i heard the first score i was like "meh, not impressed at all". Fortunately the music just got better and better as the saga advanced. I won’t say these are great scores, but the themes grew on me and I knew that, at the end of the series, a really cool compilation could be made. And that s what i tried to do with this set.
All the important themes are heard, and i tried not to repeat them too much since they are often used with very little variations. This set is not always chronological, and tracks have been shortened sometimes, and / or combined, and / or merged into each other. Some sacrifices have been made so that everything fits on one 80 min CD.
True fans of these scores probably won’t be satisfied, but for people like me, who liked them yet thought that each individual score is boring, you should find a very enjoyable presentation here.
But one very important thing is that all the music has been remastered by our king of Deluxe Editions himself, SonicAdventure. I happen to know this tall guy for a while now, and I managed to make him work on scores he doesn’t even like! Why the hell did he even buy the first one (And the second- SA) remains a mystery… so of course he declined to help me at first but suddenly changed his mind and decided to help instead of leaving me alone and crying. I suppose we can call it friendship. And he really, really helped. First, the music never sounded better, instruments feel more real, everything sounds way more vivid and less agressive (especially on the last one). Then, he helped me with refining the set, i wanted more "suffering music", he wanted more action. At the end, we got both. To finish, SonicAdventure provided some veeeery cool covers around the theme of Panem and they look really neat. So without him this set would have never seen the light of day, and would not be as good as it is.
I am very thankful for what he did, and hope you’ll enjoy our first collaboration together.
SonicAdventure’s Notes
I never liked the music for The-Hunger-Games-Series, I never liked the sound of the OSTs. JNH seems to prefer a very mainstream sound when hes assuming that itll sell well enough. In these cases, "mainstream sound" means ridiculously exaggerated amounts of bass, treble and brickwall limiting. In short, Loudness War. And its a mystery how one can make Abbey Road Studios sound like this. For my personal listening pleasure, I had ‘remastered’ them, of course. But a BestOf such as this provides a very distinct challenge: in order to create a flow, all scores had to sound roughly the same. Impossible considering that there are years inbetween recording those scores, in case of the first a different recording venue even. So I changed the sound of this compilation to average out differences. In part, I have been successful. Ive kept a decent amount of bass and treble, one has to recognize these scores, even as botched as their sound is.
This is my second collaboration on FFS. Creatively, I had little input – and I loved it! Basically, Fink brought all the ideas. Hes always a creative guy, even though he sometimes doesnt know it. Well, I tried to execute his ideas, as best as I could. 95% of the selected music was his idea. And very well chosen. For the first time, I can listen to these scores, everything important is in it, all of it has a certain flow.
About the cover… again, he had all the ideas. So he gives me too much credit. Way too much.
And I definitely would call it a friendship. Without him, I would have never known certain scores (‘Mimic’, to name only one). While this little, hot guy (he will hate that I wrote this!) can be taxing with all his demands, sometimes Im glad that he continues to taunt and challenge me. So thank you, my little slut 🙂

Is anyone else having problems with track 14? I’ve downloaded the archive multiple times (and from different hosts) and every single time I get the message that it’s corrupt. This is frustrating.
Here’s a re-up of just track #14:

The notes from both of you, custom covers, proper mastering of the music. It just feels like an official album issue! 🙂
I’m glad to see that there are still people here who sacrifice their precious time and hard work and want to give their best to the community, for free.
This is my heartfelt thank-you to both Fink and Sonic for this. Keep up the great work, guys! 😉
Though I have to agree with Ponyo – why do you need to worry about fitting everything on one disc? Why not 2?
ooooh, you is talking crazy and i like it 🙂
Deal with it. They don’t have to share any of their projects with us. I for one am glad that they do.
Don’t be like that. I was just merely stating my opinion. I wasn’t taking down the whole project, geez. I said I love it and I’m looking forward to it.
"Thanks But I Want More…"
"Thanks But I Want More…"
You are right, I apologize.
I’ve never given the Hunger Games scores a listen, but maybe now’s a good time to change that. Thanks, Fink and Sonic!
Same, that’s why I’m looking forward to this. It showcases the best of the scores.

Thanks. When it comes to me, I dont see the point in holding back something thats illegal in the first place (copyrighted music). And for sharing, I get something in return: praise. So its not really for free because praise by people like you boosts my ego 🙂
Dont know how Fink sees this, though.

Duped first post and copied to it.
Thanks for the links.
Im sure, Fink would have preferred to include more music. But hes kind of a one-cd-is-good guy, so he knew beforehand that he had to be extra careful when selecting the music.
I myself could have shortened it even more. Though I bought 2 of those scores, they never did it for me. They worked well in the movies – which is what they were supposed to do – but on their own, theyre just boring and too streamlined for my taste. I know that this is hard to accept for some people, but they simply dont resonate with me.

Thumbs up!
You dont know how often Ive thought "Man, 2 CDs, each one just over 44 minutes long… what a waste" when doing several Deluxe Editions. I only do 2 CD releases, because there are enough people that still burn to CD. I myself dont do this anymore. I used to burn them to Gold CDs – just in case – but Im rarely using CD players these days. Everything stored on either HDD or Flash media. Ready to be heard on portable devices or for streaming.

Waiting for the link! I’ve never heard one of SonicAdventure’s Deluxe Editions, I’m really curious what it is like. 😀 Thanks for your efforts!
Oh, you should. Some of them are good… some of them are crap. Start with "The Perfect Storm". Or "The Amazing Spider-Man".
What about your time? Now this is something that’s most precious… Working two jobs I know what I’m saying…
Having said that I just feel the urge to mention your edit of Maleficent which is still the only version I listen to till this day 🙂

Yeah, well, I didnt want to do it. And in fact, I dreaded the time I would loose. But the thought of putting all Hunger Games scores into just one album? Too appealing to let this chance pass. I love JNH and when buying the second score I already thought "If shortened, this might be a good album". And I couldnt let Fink listen to bad sound now, couldnt I?
I have the time to do these things, so I do them. And mostly I enjoy them afterwards much more than I would have without having worked on them. And Im glad that I worked on Fink’s project, I really like the result.
Thanks again for your suggestion, I’ll go with The Amazing Spider-Man 🙂 Looking forward to hear it. Thanks also for the links!
And yes i m the kind of guys who still burns CDs and love to have a collection of all my favourite scores.
and yes sometimes i feel like one CD is really enough. Here of course I could have included some little cues i really liked ("There’s always a flaw" is great), but i was just trying to have something coherent, with all the most important themes and something that really flows well. Of course the choice of the tracks is very personnal and you may miss some cues, but well that s all there will be for The Hunger Games Series…
IMO 2 cds would have been too much, maybe I could have expanded it to 90 minutes, but in the end i m really happy with the result.
It doesn’t mean that I don’t like scores on 2 CDs. But in this case it think it s useless that s all 🙂
If you ‘re fan of these scores take this just as a compilation, and keep listening to the regular scores 🙂
General?? Do I need to be afraid? Help! 😀

Oh, you should. Some of them are good… some of them are crap. Start with "The Perfect Storm". Or "The Amazing Spider-Man".
All of them are good because even if they’re not, they have such a strong placebo aura around them that they magically sound better automatically. Plus, one can listen to them knowing that the person who last handled it actually cared about making it sound good (and like an actual orchestra is involved) rather than just !LOUD!!
Same here, which has never happened before. Nothing against Sonic or Fink, but I’ve always hated Multiupload for that reason. As well as jumping through all the loops. "Click here to get the link!" Then another tab opens. "Your link is ready, click here!" Then another tab opens. "Please wait 500 hours for the link to appear!" And by that time you’re pulling hair. None of that happens with MEGA. I’ll provide a link later today unless someone else does it first.
No risk of ads either.
SolidFiles and that gaming host are the fastest on these multi hosts they’re using.
Only one release. The other is a collaboration, without Fink it wouldnt even exist 🙂

Placebo aura? Thats not good. It means I could do anything I like, for example, vomit into a bucket, put a loudspeaker in, press play, put my name "SonicAdventure" on it, call it regurg…mastered and then people would automatically think that its good.
If my name alone creates such a placebo, people wont recognize real quality. Its like someone buying an iPhone, thinking hes got something exclusive and luxurious while 90% of his friends have iPhones, too. No exclusivity, mediocre hardware, occasionally strange software, reliability comparable to less expensive smartphones. So the assumed exclusivity and quality are a myth. IMO, this expectancy can be abused and will be abused. Do you want to be abused?

That. No, both.
You and I seem to be the only ones advertising for JDownloader: http://jdownloader.org/
You just took care of a clear frustration I had with this scores which mirrors Sonic’s opinions. Now I’ll be able to finally enjoy this music as a proper "album" experience and allow the music to increase its emotional impact upon listening.

Yep. And it kind of works like advertising. Ive already catched myself at thinking about listening to the OSTs 😀
A reupload would be most welcome!

Wow, didnt see it! Thank you very much for the upload 🙂
Solid compilation!
Since day one I’ve felt like these scores all had some great highlights surrounded by “functional material”. They definitely deserve more credit than they really get, but I do understand why people may find them either bland or boring. Thankfully JNH is an amazing composer, so even at his weakest he can still write something great!
I’m still hoping for this Highlights From… to be made into an ongoing series. There are a lot of scores out there that would justify a treatment like that. HP or The Hobbit, to name just a few. Let go guys!
Wow, a proper Highlights album from The Hobbit trilogy would be incredible. So much good music there, and they were my favorite scores of those individual years, but since then, I’ve rarely felt compelled to revisit them, maybe just too much music, a bit too much repetition, themes can’t compete with original trilogy, too many missed opportunities. Editing the trilogy down to perhaps a two-disc presentation that encapsulates the whole story would probably take a ton of editing, but would be terrific.
I’m still hoping for this Highlights From… to be made into an ongoing series. There are a lot of scores out there that would justify a treatment like that. HP or The Hobbit, to name just a few. Let go guys!
Harry Potter or The Hobbit? Are you kidding? I will never touch those 😉 The Hobbit can’t be shortened, for Harry Potter only the scores Williams composed are worthwhile (and a little less the ones by Desplat) – and those four… no, I simply can’t touch them. And neither could Fink. I think.
No love for Goblet of Fire? I understand not being enthused by the Hooper entries (even though I think they definitely have their highlights), but I certainly believe Doyle made one of the best scores in the series.
I’m sorry, but Doyle’s effort never did it for me. Having said that, his music rarely does, can’t help it.
———- Post added at 06:18 PM ———- Previous post was at 06:16 PM ———-
Why do you think the sneaky, little Hobbitses can’t be shortened?
Many that are long deserve to be shortened. And some that are short deserve to be longer. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out shortness or length in judgement 😉
Same. He’s "meh".
So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.
