In a documentary on Bernard Herrmann, it was said that Barnard did not want to hit songs in his scores, as he had threatened to do the studios, but I do not think he in "Torn Curtain" there is a song of global significance.
However for testing, I reassembled the death scene of Gromek with Herrmann’s music, it is a whole other thing.

Yes, I’ve seen this scene before in a documentary, overlaid with Herrmann’s unused cue, it’s awsome. It should be added that there was no alternative music written by John Addison at all for that scene, because Hitchcock finally chose to let this scene play WITHOUT any music!
