BONUS #2: the abridged film version (recreation) of Sam Smith’s Writing’s on the Wall. Made using the single instrumental and regular track based on my memory of the cutdown song in my two viewings. The real one has IIRC a couple Newman flourishes included and a rather wonderful lead-in from the last cue of the pre-title sequence.

Not a fan of Sam Smith or the theme song but I appreciate your posting the soundtrack.
Thank you so much
24-Bit? I am thrilled 🙂
Oh, and thank you!
Sort of – will update a new track listing and maybe a new upload of the MP3 once I see the film and once a good chrono tracklisting is out
Unfortunately I can’t download/listen until I get my Mac fixed. I guess there’s YouTube until then :/
I can see a lot of re-tracked themes/stems/temp/instrumentals from SKYFALL.
Very interesting. Indeed!
I like the sound of that.
It’s on there but not the instrumental. Only on the CD single it seems.
And that site doesn’t have it then I take it? Not to worry, will pick it up from HMV tomorrow. Incidentally, the ‘Eternal City’ track is ace 🙂
The site has the official digital single in 24-bit FLAC – which doesn’t include the instrumental.
Newman’s theme for the organisation itself (best featured in the first half of the end titles track) eerily reminds me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhKHt85CFwI Which is good because I LOVE this piece.
BUT where did you get this exactly? I’m positively shocked 😀
Newman’s theme for the organisation itself (best featured in the first half of the end titles track) eerily reminds me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhKHt85CFwI Which is good because I LOVE this piece.
Well unless someone else beats me to it, I’ll get it and upload it in WAV tomorrow. By all means add the link to your O.P. 🙂
Thankyou very much 🙂
Fun fact: The first "Los muertos vivos estan" translates into "the dead are alive" which is part of a small song featured in a concert in the Zocalo, in Mexico’s opening sequence. It has a crazy drum rythm too. I was one of the extras in the filming and it’s quite catchy. It’s a bit dumned down in Day of the Dead but it’s the same freaking song
It’s at 24-bits so that’s why it’s so large.
24bit!
I doubt anything from the trailers would make it to the score, no?
24bit!
I doubt anything from the trailers would make it to the score, no?
No unfortunately, the trailers were composed and arranged by Jeff Pfeifer as opposed to Newman.
Thanks a lot ! I hope this soundtrack will be a good Bond score.
Many thanks!

I have just listened to a few tracks of the Spectre OST and it’s the normal Thomas Newman ‘go nowhere’ rubbish. I miss the days of Barry and his works of art which added depth to the film, all we have now is noise with a capital N.
I also find this score absolutely uninteresting and quite boring.
Of course we’ll have to wait to see how it works in the movie.
But I really liked Newmans score for Skyfall
GREAT upload and a big Thanks to you
Does the James Bond Theme or the 007 Theme appear anywhere on this OST, or is it practically absent like on Skyfall’s OST?

Skyfall is a very good score!!!
Thomas Newman!!!
Yes, indeed, I kind of got excited after listening to the first track… and expected more epic James Bond theme references, which never came… ._. By the way, who orchestrated Writing’s On The Wall?
Apparently Newman conducted the orchestra when the song was recorded.
Speaking of – anyone had the chance to get the full instrumental? Also the cutdown instrumental we have on this album actually appears in the film apparently…..
Do you mean the OHMSS piece? Fingers crossed it will make an appearance somewhere. It’s too damn good not to! 🙂
Yeah. That was just for the trailer campaign.
Speaking of – anyone had the chance to get the full instrumental? Also the cut-down instrumental we have on this album actually appears in the film apparently…..
EDIT: Have got it now and will be uploading in a bit for you to post the link alongside your other two in your opening post. Also, I now know why it was abridged on the OST, the orchestra and Sam were obviously recorded simultaneously and there’s a bit of vocal bleed during the quiet bits as a result.
Not to mention the abridged instrumental version appearing in the film at some point actually.
Thanks so much, updating OP with it shortly…..

I’ll take a look at it if you’d like. Though the only reason I can think of being mixed in 7.1 is if the full song is used in the film.
All the movies have been 5.1 so far, haven’t they?
I’d be willing to be it’s just upscaled stereo.

Writing’s on the Wall (lyricized) was a mistake to listen to. Sounds like someone grabbed Sam Smith’s balls and janked them a few times during the song. The instrumental version has a faint Smith bleeding through… very bad, overall.
Not sure if this is better then Adele’s Skyfall. I swear, that woman just doesn’t finish any word she sings.

I still don’t understand Universal. What’s the point of releasing music as Lossless FLAC 44.1kHz/24bit when they continue to apply audible watermarking to the files? If people buy Universal downloads, they’re getting ripped off.
It now runs better for some reason.:disgust:
Just a heads’ up, you can hear Sam Smith’s vocals partially towards the end of the instrumental… 😐
Just a heads’ up, you can hear Sam Smith’s vocals partially towards the end of the instrumental… 😐
That was me (Antovolk did credit me with it in his updated posts) and the reason why Sam’s vocal is just about audible on the quieter parts of the track is because the orchestra and he were recorded simultaneously as opposed to the orchestra being pre-recorded beforehand. Personally, I don’t know why they couldn’t have gone for a second take with just the orchestra alone so a clean copy of it could be released along with the main vocal version, but there you go! Not great for a commercial release but a whole lot better than the karaoke efforts currently available for it in my opinion.
Yeah that makes sense. I’m surprised they released the clean ending on the soundtrack (even though it was an edit) and left the vocals intact on the single.
This whole issue is why parts were re-recorded by Newman during the film scoring sessions – as the abridged version on the OST is actually in the film.
There are a couple of cues I could tell weren’t on the soundtrack though.
Notably – MINOR SPOILER AHEAD –
The gun barrel returns to the start of the movie! And with an original orchestration of the Bond theme by Thomas Newman, which is sadly not on the soundtrack.
At the end of the movie, Newman copies pretty much entirely the way he scored the end scene in Skyfall when Bond returns to work and meets the new M (but this time with the subtle addition of vibraphone) and then it goes into the David Arnold arrangement of the Bond theme from Casino Royale – which Arnold gets credited for in the end titles.
That’s the only time in the film that you hear the Bond theme in its entirety sadly 🙁
especially since FYCs never have the Jamesbond theme tracks
I have to say I quite like the new soundtrack. I like how Newman has woven the Bond theme through the new cues, rather than a full on statement of the theme. However it is missing a true finale. The track described as end credits is too anonymous for be a closing piece for a film or album. Each time I have listened to the score album, without watching the track names, I still do not realise when I am listening to the end credits track.
I have always wondered why the gunbarrel music often gets omitted from the score albums? Is it a rights, or composer ego issue? If the Bond theme does indeed play out the end of the film, then what is the final track on the OST (SPECTRE [End Credits]) for?
Final point, I am not happy with the instrumental Title track on the single. The voice bleed is simply amateurish. For a professional product, it is really unacceptable. A fan-made rip can allow for vocal bleeds as we do not have the resources to make a clean version of a track, but not something from a record label. Did they not even listen to it before they made the discs? It is either sloppy QC or no customer service. However, the do prefer the OST instrumental. Whilst shorter, it seems fuller. Without Smith’s vocal’s the melody seems anaemic. Yet together they work beautifully (yes, I am one of the few that likes the song). Well I guess the karaoke version on YT will have to do in the interim.
Still roll on 4th November. If only I still lived in the UK, then I could enjoy it all tomorrow. Lucky buggers.
Incidentally, out of interest, I put both into Soundforge and was able to exactly recreate the abridged version using the complete and am now considering adding some further bits into it that weren’t affected by Sam’s vocal bleed (I suspect it came from the piano track and that the piano may have been in the same room as Sam was at the time of recording).
Finally, I have a number of original song instrumentals by such artists as Michael Buble and Alfie Boe, and some of those suffer from the same problem as well.
Now still waiting for the movie on the 5th of November…
Two big omissions from the OST – Newman’s fantastic gunbarrel cue, and his own short arrangement of WOTW instrumental…..
So the WOTW cue on this one isn’t his own arrangement?
BTW, how’s the chronology of the tracklist compared?
Two big omissions from the OST – Newman’s fantastic gunbarrel cue, and his own short arrangement of WOTW instrumental…..
Well shit. And you can forget those being on the FYC since they’re not Newman’s material. Unless he co-wrote WOtW
So the WOTW cue on this one isn’t his own arrangement?
BTW, how’s the chronology of the tracklist compared?
It’s just a cut down of the official instrumental on the CD single of WOTW. His arrangement in the film is even shorter but it’s his own arrangement and orchestration.
Move Day of the Dead to after Los Muertos Vivos Estan, and Crows Klinik and Madeleine to after Kite in a Hurricane.
Well shit. And you can forget those being on the FYC since they’re not Newman’s material. Unless he co-wrote WOtW
He didn’t. He MAY have conducted the orchestra when the song was recorded in January but yeah, shame about his new WOTW arrangement which is short but reeeeeeealy nice. And that gunbarrel cue which is just amazing.
it starts off over the studio logos with the Arnold-style build-up, then the DUN DUN DUUUUN over black, then the dots and barrel accompanied by a TND-style cue.
I recorded it on my phone tonight and despite the quality not being that great, it should be good enough to give those interested the general idea 🙂
Link – https://mega.nz/#!XYA2AAwC!9UVSMHm0BPuX_11Xk-Wn7xW-ZVsu-TBK2LNMCkHWHyc
That’s very odd, as the album’s abridged instrumental has no trace of Smith’s vocals.
Not odd because they only used some of the sections that didn’t contain vocal bleed in them to make the abridged version.
I sent it to him to include as opposed to creating my own thread for it.
Thank you scorehunter66 😉

And thank you again 🙂
Must’ve been some fancy editing then, because you can hear his falsetto vocals in all 4 choruses of the full instrumental, even during the parts used on the album edit. I’m not trying to call you a liar or something if "simultaneous recording" is something that you’ve read/heard as the reason, I’m just saying that I think that reason is kinda BS 😉
Actually, don’t take my word for it, just make up the abridged version from the full instrumental and then mix-paste it exactly over the original and the result you get is the same awful flanging effect you get when you try to overlay two virtually identical tracks over one another. Furthermore, if the complete instrumental hadn’t had a volume maximiser applied to it, both would cancel each other out if you inverted one of them before overlaying it over the other. Finally, there’s an instrument missing from the bridge section on the abridged version, which may have contained the offending vocal bleed, hence why it was removed. Anyway, if you’re a dab hand at audio editing and mixing, the above shouldn’t take you more than 20 minutes to achieve 🙂
I think I heard Smith say they used his demo track as the final vocal, so I guess that would have been a voice and piano track dubbed over an orchestral arrangement?
Anyone got a shot at the chronological order yet? I’ve seen the movie and the soundtrack does appear to be mostly in the right order, Day of the Dead excluded of course and I suppose a few other tracks too.
I just realised it’s THIRTEEN YEARS since a Bond movie started with the gunbarrel sequence! Good to see it back.
Edit; looking through the tracks again I think maybe DOTD is the ONLY track that is out of order. "Kite in a Hurricane" could be at two points in the movie so not sure on that one. I’m only going by track titles I don’t have the musical ear to recall all the cues after one viewing. The tag scene into the credits is very very similar to Skyfall too so a rip of that will do for now in a Spectre playlist.
To be frank, they could have quite easily cleaned the track up prior to release, so it’s a bit sloppy that they didn’t. However, I know a great sound engineer that could do the job without it affecting the instrumental, so am going to ask him to sort it out as I really love the track.

I created the most accurate version that you hear at the cinema, using music by David Arnold of CR and QoS, by including the old shot of the legendary Walther ppk 007 😉
Big thanks !! 🙂
Really miss the theme of Bond in many music action, only a few hints, but recently, we are light years away from the masterpieces of David Arnold.
Meanwhile, the CD lacks the music gunbarrel, surely will miss many, the film lasts 148 minutes.
I look forward to cd expanded 😉
The soundtrack misses the "Gunbarrel Opening Scene" and some (extended, like "Los Muertos Vivos Estan") tracks. It also misses the intro of Sinatra’s "New York, New York" but that’s just a small joke.
Most of the CD is in chronological order. I tried to make a chronological order before seeing the movie, but that one is wrong! I think this is the right chronological order using the 24bit flac version of this post:
(Yes, rocklegend, I used the mp3 version of this post, thanks for the remark)
1,18,2,3,4,5,10,6,8,7,11,12,13,14,9,16,17,19,20,21 ,22,23,24,25,26.
Number 15 The Writings On The Wall (instrumental) isn’t used in the movie (does it?); the song of Sam Smith (opening credits) isn’t on the original soundtrack CD)
The first seconds of track 1 "Los Muertos Vivos Estan" is a few times used when Hinx makes an appearence.

Yes it is, but Thomas Newman I think has remixed some of the previous tracks and merged them. My tin ear can’t make out which ones he has used.
It is an arranged version of "Silver Wraith" (second half) and "Madeleine".

I remember hearing Moneypenny’s theme, M’s theme, the MI6 theme and the Skyfall theme. Not sure if those are the names of the cues, but there was quite a few and I enjoyed hearing them again.
Now if someone can tell me if these cues made it onto the OST I’d appreciate it as I haven’t (and can’t) downloaded this yet.
Yes Backfire is before "Kite in a Hurricane"
OK, now I’m confused, so what is the proper chronological order?
It’s already been posted MANY times on this thread.
Yes, with "Kite in a Hurricane" BEFORE "Backfire" (many times) and "Kite in a Hurricane" AFTER "Backfire" (once — and not specified exactly where — immediately after?). Hence my confusion.

Huge thanks for this – you saved me a job of trying to blag it myself from Sony after I saw the video with it in this morning!
As usual, the film was loaded with tributes, but did you catch the John Barry – Thunderball tribute on the "Westminster Bridge" track of the score? It’s between :40-:56 of that track. There is no mistaking that high pitched brass!
Does the James Bond Theme or the 007 Theme appear anywhere on this OST, or is it practically absent like on Skyfall’s OST?
Practically absent like on Skyfall’s OST and it is very disappointing.
A little late here, but Monty Norman’s Bond theme was all over Skyfall. How you both haven’t heard it is beyond me.
Hell, even Skyfall itself has the Bond theme in it.
I need to listen to this a few more times to get a real feel of it.
Also: Hot DAMN, antovolk! Thanks for the gunbarrel!

December probably….
If they do release an FYC disc(s) will they do what they did to Skyfall and edit out all uses of the Bond theme?
Los Muertos Vivos Estan (Extended)
Yes….
I feel like i want a game from this movie, so we have a better vocal theme. Quantum of Solace had that horrible song in the movie, and in the game they completely redeemed themselves about it.
That’s because several cues were, most notably the actual "Skyfall" theme itself (when Bond sees Blofeld for the first time at the funeral). Also Severin (reused in "Donna Lucia") and On the Moors (forget where this one was reused but it’s on the OST like the others).
Los Muertos Vivos Estan (Extended)
It’s not extended, just the cue repeated twice with the Day of the Dead one in the middle.
Huge thanks for this – you saved me a job of trying to blag it myself from Sony after I saw the video with it in this morning!
Hey –
Do you have a contact at Sony? If you do, is it worth seeing if they can give you the complete gun barrel cue (with the strings over the film company logos)?
They obviously have access to it as in that video they’ve cut the start of it in their edit.
I’m also pursuing someone I know at the label to see if they have access to any of the other unreleased cues but remain unhopeful 🙁

Thanks for the link to this. Now if we can only figure out a way to download the audio.

Cool, but can’t DL. Maybe we can re-edit the single to actually be just like the movie version now 🙂
Surely the audio can be recorded from the computer’s audio out, or is the file stored somewhere in the TIFs once it is played?

Audio is unfortunately a bit meh quality…..but easy to use the single full and instrumental tracks to make an accurate movie version.

Yep.

I’m sure no one would object if you decided to share such a link…

If it’s the inline audio, do it via PM only.
And don’t create a thread for it either.
It would be, technically, "warez" content here as it’s not an actual soundtrack.
It’s related to soundtracks by a few dozen degrees of separation.

The final work from scorehunter for film version from the OST would qualify for a new thread with sharing links though.
but not the whole inline audio track itself.

Thanks! I’ve used this as a guide to make another Main Titles Edit of "Writing’s On The Wall". No disrespect(re) for antovolk’s previous effort, but I think I’ve significantly improved the edit transition during the final chorus. Whichever version anyone prefers, I think we can all agree that this song is made much more enjoyable with the accompanying visuals, haha.

Your link is incomplete.
It requires the decryption key or else it won’t work.
I should make a sticky informing people to use MEGA right. Or not at all.

Yeah, I’ve uploaded MEGA files here before, something has changed recently I think.
Okay, THERE we go. Mega did change the way it offers the link to me. Should work now, sorry.

I don’t plan on doing any of that as I’m using an account I don’t want to get a black mark against if I was to openly post the link on here. Anyway, have provided it to two people who have requested it by ‘pm’ and am happy to do that for anyone else that asks for it as long as it’s not everyone LOL!
I appreciate your kindness !! micycle ヾ(◎゚Д゚)ノ[Thank You]
Looks great.

Perfect!
Thank you.

DEAD LINK?????……….. 🙁
This is the main reason abandoned threads (by OP) get closed and mirrors moved to new a thread.
Most people don’t quote the post being referred. It only becomes common knowledge to ones who frequent the thread.

Duped first and added mirror.
When users go to bottom of first post to hit "reply" button, they’ll most likely see it the re-up in the duped post.
Please can u upload it?
Thanks too TheSparktank™ 2.1. I’ll consider.

Anyone interested?
Of course!
This would merit a new thread to distinguish difference from this thread.
It’s not the same release.
Me!!!! I’m interested! 😀
My Expanded Score for Spectre 🙂
The music during the clash Helicopter is incomplete, missing the theme of Bond after 007 has recovered to some extent.
But all in all, my friend, for now is the best version found around 😉
Thanks for that. It’ll go with all the other screeners that have appeared recently.

BONUS: Sam Smith – Writing’s On The Wall CD Single (FLAC & MP3 320)
(thank you so much scorehunter66)
1. Writing’s on the Wall
2. Writing’s on the Wall (Instrumental)
FYI – the instrumental on this CD single is unabridged unlike on the OST.
I’m sure there has to be an FYC, unless they didn’t submit one for this movie. I mean, Star Wars of all movies has an FYC that’s floating around now (but it’s lossy).
I think you mean FYC. And just because the film isn’t nominated for best original score does not mean there will not be an FYC. I could name dozens of films that have had FYCs yet weren’t nominated.
Do you know if it has the cue which fits in the middle of the ‘Eternal City’ track on the soundtrack when Q is giving Bond his new watch? It has strains of the James Bond theme in it.
Does it also have the extended version of ‘Los Muertos Vivos Estan’ as heard in the movie?
"I would imagine no KYC will be available unless the score is nominated for the Oscars."
DAKoftheOTA:
"I think you mean FYC. And just because the film isn’t nominated for best original score does not mean there will not be an FYC. I could name dozens of films that have had FYCs yet weren’t nominated."
Yep, you’re right. I meant FYC. KYC is a term I use in my job in finance (know your customer).
As to whether one will be available, it is true that a film does not need to be nominated for one to be released. However I would imagine they become more available if there is a nomination, as the film company/distributors would need/want to reach all the voting members of the category. Also, I would imagine that availablility will also depend on the distribution medium – online, disc or some other way?
If there is one, I’m sure it will surface at some point. However, unlike Skyfall, other than the Gunbarrell and Bond Theme bookends (should be rip-able from the BD/DVD) & once the Skyfall music is tracked in, what is there that is missing? Unlike with Skyfall, there is no track that springs to mind that is missing or that I feel that I need to complete the score – and I’m usually a completist with anything Bond.
If the OP or anyone else still has this and would be kind enough to provide a new link, I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your help!!!!

(thank you so much scorehunter66)
1. Writing’s on the Wall
2. Writing’s on the Wall (Instrumental)
FYI – the instrumental on this CD single is unabridged unlike on the OST.
In the meantime – Sony released the full opening title sequence to the press, and so here’s the film version of Writing’s on the Wall in 24-bit FLAC as well as 320 MP3!
Hope this helps anyone working on complete edits.
Mostly for reference.
There’s sfx in all channels so no chance of isolating anything.
The only good thing is the end credits in 24bit/48kHz and whatever channels anyone decides to use. 7.1 / 5.1 / 2.0

NOTES ON THE TRACKS
1. Antovolk has kindly posted on here the gunbarrel music from a behind-the-scenes video posted on the official site. It unfortunately doesn???t have the music for the studio logos.
2. The version of ???Los Muertos Vivos Estan??? is much longer in the movie than the one on the soundtrack.
5. Does anyone know the name of the track when Bond is passing the parade of ladies in giant dresses wheeling through the street? I have a feeling it???s an original piece created especially for the film.
7. The cue ???Tempus Fugit??? from the OST doesn???t feature in its entirety in the film – but a snippet of it does whilst Bond is battling Sciarra in the helicopter
8. This has been posted on the forum, with the harp flourish at the start of the track
10. This can be cut from the Skyfall soundtrack as it???s more or less the same cue
17. Can be cut from the very beginning of the ???Los Muertos Vivos Estan??? cue on the official soundtrack
19./20./21. are all truncated versions of the ???Backfire??? cue on the soundtrack
32. The version on the soundtrack does not match the one in the movie, which is much longer and is interrupted by the scene with Q & Moneypenny meeting M in a restaurant
34. A truncated version of the instrumental of the main theme is heard in the movie, with some subtle variations
46. This cue is taken bar for bar from the end sequence of Skyfall, but also sadly did not feature on that film???s official soundtrack – but you could cut the end of it from the cue ???The Name???s Bond???James Bond??? from the Casino Royale soundtrack
48./49./50. – these tracks all seem to be out in the public domain
51./52. – fan versions of the trailer music are on Amazon (reasonably good facsimiles)
I hope this list helps – I’d be interested to hear your input in it!

Absolutely…….. do you have a link?
I second that. The reup folder link is already dead.
I also added for myself ..a BBC Radio Documentary narrated by Robbie Coltrane ..broadcasted around the time of the release of Sky fall and a couple of interviews with Daniel and Sam Mendes promoting Spectre. Easily deleted.
All in MP3.
