What just happened to the forum?

I usually check this forum via my bookmarks, none of them have worked for a couple of days, but now a friend pointed out to me that you’re still up. I’m renewing all my shortcuts, but the archives are all in the wrong order. For the download section, for instance, I have to go to page 127 to view the latest thread titles!

Did something happen?

The site was hacked and various probelms have arisen, the admin are sorting it. That is all we know. Aswell as not search engine and like options…

Obviously neither of you know of the experience I have administrating forums, websites and other online
things. I also manage a crew of 200 people in the real world.

Besides, so much as he thought of me as a massive threat to the forum, really, not to mention he moderates with feelings, not with brain and logic.

Nah, that wasn’t my point. I know I don’t explain myself well. But moderating, is that, moderating a forum, and you can’t let your decisions be done because of judgement or feelings, because sometimes it’s not the right thing. Like, for example, imagine you got a friend you like, does something wrong, but he’s your friend, so you guide by feelings and don’t punish him or tell him he’s wrong.

I understand that. And I hate to be a cliche but with great power comes great responsibility. If you’re going to be a mod, you have to do it right. I’d be able to reprimand anyone, even a friend.

You all just don’t want to be moderated. You’re all stupid. Who gives a crap.

It’s not so much that you can’t say things, it’s just that… Do you know just how well moderated the Film/TV/Classical forum was? Sanico did a good job as a moderator, while she was active; Jessie is an admin and while he does the bulk of the job, he can’t obviously keep everything in check…

Bottom line of this? The Film/TV sections was reduced pretty much to a clusterfuck, generally speaking, now that there’s someone actively trying to bring order to that mess, users complain.

How does the saying go? Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. He’s still going easy, I’ve seen worse, as far as dictatorship goes.

I’d imagine the recent hack, assuming it’s real, was an attempt to find more skeletons in the closet. Considering chat logs from this site have been the primary source of dirt that’s been dug up, whoever did the hack probably felt they could find even more damning things in deleted threads and PMs.

Yeah I remember that. With all of that drama plus the piracy/download sections, the site isn’t even on thin ice anymore. The ice has broken and it’s flailing in the water.

You are wrong on a few accounts, dschiv, a moderator doesn’t to have to step in "only" when the situation requires it, he/she’s also tasked with maintaining the section clean (deleting/closing threads may qualify as such).

In my personal experience, "cases" like Sanico have been rather rare, users are mostly whiny brats who don’t understand how the moderator’s action may actually help in keeping the forum a bit more organized, in the end… And they let loose insults.

This site WAS a Final Fantasy fan forum, but then the main site hasn’t been updated in years and abandoned, and the aforementioned subforums were added to increase membership and traffic. They succeeded in that, but at a detrimental cost to the rest of the forum. When I first joined, no download subforums at all, main site was updated on a regular basis and while there was some arguments, nothing on the scale which runs rampant here nowadays.
