My guess its either the same sets we (probably) already own or new music material. But most likely stuff we already have similar to the 30th anniversary set from 2007
Something for you to look forward to. By the sounds the cds are just what we already have plus an interview disc.
Just like I’m not buying anymore of the middle earth films. I have the LotR trilogy theatrical editions on Blu-ray, AUJ and that’s it. I never bought Smaug or BotFA. I’m waiting until ALL 6 films have been released in every single format that Peter Jackson desires, and then I’ll buy what I’m tentatively calling "The Middle Earth Collection".
And knowing disney all the time the fans want them they will make them… there will be more than 9.
Fair enough tho 🙂
I dont have 1 dvd or score for the "middle earth collection." Lol
This is Warner Bros. we’re talking about. NO ONE milks their franchises like WB does. Even Disney doesn’t bring themselves down to WB’s level. For every new minute of content they release in their ultimate franchise collection, there’s 100 more hours’ worth of material they’re hoarding for another box set in two years. And the cycle continues.
You’re better off buying a set available now that you’re happy with, because otherwise you’ll die before they release a box set that has all the bells and whistles.

Apparently, because of Disney owning LuCashfilm, Sony can not release previously unreleased material.
The sound quality has got steadily worse on every re-release. I seriously hope they buck that trend and do this properly at last.

This.
It will only sound as good as what you are working with, if you don’t have good sources (masters etc.) no matter what you do its going to sound worse than if you had good sources.

Absolutely. If the original OST programs for the original three are properly restored and remastered, I’m in. The Anthology set is good but has some terrible flaws and the presentation leaves a lot to be desired. The less said about the so-called Special Edition sets, the better.
NOTE: I/II/III are 24/44.
I’d like to know if they’re worth the $.

I’m just waiting for it to drop on the Canadaian equivalent of HDtracks, since it’s region-locked to the US on HDtracks, I can’t buy it |:
I don’t think the samples are in HD.
HD resolution is mostly irrelevant to sound quality, I’m talking about the mastering. They sound treble heavy, lacking in warmth and lower frequences, tight soundstage. If the mastering is shit, who cares if it’s in "HD"? And if the samples don’t reflect the product offered, of what use are they?
Out of curiosity, which track? Interested to compare myself, as I was also comparing certain tracks to my FLAC rips of the Anthology discs.
The Anthology albums definitely sound better than the 1997, 2004, 2007 releases.
The same thing happened when I got the Star Trek: TMP soundtrack – there was this organ in it I never heard before in one of the tracks.

True, but the Anthology uses this alt cue for the Star Wars Main Title. I’m not a fan of it. Two glaring mistakes in that track.

Yeah, we’ll see how it turns out.
Yeah, I can hear the low-end piano in the sample far more prominently than on the Anthology version, although I think I can just barely hear it there (of course, knowing to look for it makes it easier). I suspect it’s simply more audible because the treble is more prominent.

The Anthology is far from a perfect set. I cannot stand how Empire and Jedi were mastered in the Special Edition sets, however.
I hope you know and realize, that difference is because the episodes 4-6 are straight from the masters used to put the original vynil releases; and the original vynil releases are different from what’s heard in the movies for a few reasons. You have never heard that low piano, because the version in the LP it’s an alternate..
I’m well aware of all that.
I’m just thinking that may be the difference you’ve noticed and may have nothing to do with the quality.
To me the samples, I hear no difference.. but that’s because they’re low quality samples.
