Some of you may remember me from Gamealbums.com or #Gamemusic on DALnet or #Gamealbums on a different IRC network I was the founder of both… Those days are gone,the community’s no more… but I just could not shake this place so here I am with an FTP server…

An FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol . Basically I am hosting a server in which you can log in and download files. If you are a newbie you may ask questions and people will help including me.

-If you are a n00b than please move along as your desire to get free game albums that took me over 15 years to collect does not outweigh your laziness to learn something new.

Ok, I don’t mind requests but as busy as I am its hard to fulfill them. 55 hours a week work will do that to you.. I used to have a music list but somehow it got deleted and the thought of remaking another one with a collection this size is not very appealing. Suffice to say you can easily browse the server and look for what you want… Sometimes an album may be listed like Zelda under Z or The Legend of Zelda under T

FTP hours Open mostly M-F. BECAUSE OF MY STRONG DEDICATION AND DESIRE TO SHARE I SOMETIMES HAVE MNY SERVER CAPPED AT A LOW SPEED. THIS IS SOMETHING I DO WHEN I GAME INSTEAD OF SHUTTING IT DOWN. LOOK AT THOSE SLOW SPEEDS AS A BLESSING, NOT A CURSE.

Please be respectful and remember this is my bandwidth and not some faceless p2p torrent or mega download website. The biggest reason people do not share via ftp is idiots messing it up for others… Newbies are great, ask questions and people will help.. I miss so much those days when I logged to many of those FTP’s (including your own) back when GFF was a really good place to talk and share stuff about games before it was taken over by people who think are the next Canadian comedy sensation. I stopped visiting that hellhole when the banner was replaced by those overloading GIF’s no one could understand (or stand).
Here at FFShrine, we might have some weekends when the forum needs money and we can’t see or post anything, but at least we don’t have annoying GIF’s nor 3-month-long maintenance periods.

It works on TC, remember to put a colon for the port after the host address, that’s a common mistake. I had my settings with server autodetect and passive transfers.

Hi there. So I’ve made a lot of great discoveries here on ffshrine, but this is by far the best. I promise I won’t download everything, but considering I’ve already found like 7 Falcom albums I was missing, I will definitely be frequently this FTP for awhile if you don’t mind. Rest assured, that’s not the case; the bracketed phrase in my post is there to not give the password away. Assuming that the rest of the information is entered correctly, it probably has to do with the server being unavailable during each try. Then again, after at least ten different attempts, I’m beginning to wonder if there’s an issue on my end.

have y ou tried FileZilla ? this video just simply shows you how to attempt it… Let me know, also check your firewall settings in outbound as well. My server is only 24 7 weekdays for the time being, and Ill follow the hours if more people got on but right now hardly any one browses it… strange

I used to have a list, if you followed the link I posted it is not malware.. You can grab and use any FTP browser program if you like, I just posted a free one that works.

as far as the list, well it would take forever to list over 300 GB of music… sorry I just don’t have the time.

If you carefully craft the URL, you can use your web browser to browse it. I wouldn’t recommend it for downloading, though.

Thanks for keeping ftp servers relevant. 🙂 You might want to edit your original post to "hide" the address and login information in an "HTML code" or "spoiler" box so that it is not indexed by search engine spiders. It will also help protect your bandwidth, because only FFS members will be able to view the information.

OK so here’s the deal… I have 3 drives. The two slave drives I have both hold my entire collection. 1 is failing and its shared, once it totally fails I’m moving over to the good drive and replacing the bad one… Or if it does not fail b next payday I’ll replace it…

Also download all you want means just that. If my ISP gives me shit I’ll mention something but till then , F them.

Hope this clears things up… I have a passion for sharing vgm.. Also I’ll fix the link to hide the address so it does not get indexed but right now I’m at work on my droid phone.

BTW, another FTP browser you can try is WinSCP. It’s pretty simple to work with.

How much space do you have for uploads? I have a lot of FLAC stuff that you do not have if you want any of it, but it eats up space quick

Filezilla is trying to make multiple connections, including the one that you are using to browse the folders. You need to limit connections to 1.

Edit –> Settings –> Transfers and under Concurrent Transfers set:
Maximum simultaneous transfers: 1

Also in Site Manager, under Transfer Settings tab set Transfer Mode to Passive and check Limit number of simultaneous connections and set that to 1.

Also, to get a quick file listing of all your music, bring up a DOS window by typing CMD in your run box. Now navigate to the top level folder, in your case, Gamealbums.

Now type:
dir /B /AD /S /ON > gamemusic.txt

You should now have a file listing of all directories (or folders) in that text file. No individual files.

What this does:
/B – Bare Format, just filenames
/AD – Show Directories Only
/S – Recursive through directories
/ON – Sort Alphabetically
> filename.txt – Output everything to a file

Hello, I’m currently going to attempt a test connection for stability purposes. If a passive function is available, I will use that as to not strain the server if possible.
EDIT 1: I’m going to have to get used to how to handle FTP settings again. It has been a whole year since I have messed with it.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: As of this post, it is only 12:44 PM CT. What time are the servers properly open based on my timezone? And for those with better experience with FileZilla, which settings do I need to change to Passive Mode?

(I really only used this program while I was working with….another site.)

Well this weekend will be a hit and miss… One thing I always try is gaming before shutting down a server. If I don’t lag than there’s no reason to shut server down. Most of the time there is 1-3 people on I just leave it… The server hours were just to basically say it might go down when I want to game.. considering I work most of the time they stay up ..

I am after any and all game albums I do not have, hope that answers questions

that’s the problem when I try to upload the soundtrack, the file names are invalid and I got the soundtrack from Jake Kaufman’s bandcamp

and it get’s worse, I get the "too many IP" error message and i have no clue on how to fix it

This is the very first time using FileZilla. I just wanted to say thanks for this, along with most of the games you have that I’ve been trying to get.

When it comes to collecting video game soundtracks, you’re the same as I am, but longer. But if you mean putting them on the internet, then yes, you did. *lol*

You have a lot of soundtracks and albums, along with remixes, that I mostly have, but missing out on a lot. I’d love to give you my whole entire collection of them, but the one huge problem is, my external hard drive somehow got corrupted a few weeks ago and can’t retrieve anything. That external hard drive had every single soundtrack, remixes, albums, and vocal collections; from anime, video games, super sentai, tokusatsu, and Japanese artists, including all BEMANI artists. Mostly rare stuff.

If I can get that fixed, I’d love to share my stuff with you. Also, I don’t know if you noticed, but the person who’s downloading stuff from you last night, as well as right now with your Ys Collection, is me.

Does this thread ever bring back memories. I can’t believe it’s active in 2015.

I know one really nice person who runs vgmdb but he is very selective about sharing his collection. He is mostly someone who trades…. Its worked for him as he doubles maybe even triples my selection.. I like to think I’ve done good though just sharing and hope people are nice enough to share albums I don’t have.

No, my asshole neighbor who used my wifi / internet for 2 days while she supposedly got her own decided to sneak on. This bumped for some reason, my internal router IP down a number thus rendering my ftp useless..

I appreciated the ftp! I already have a lot so it’s hard for me to find stuff I need, not because I collect everything, just nearing where I have what I want already even in FLAC. I love FTP over download services, so much easier.

Thanks, the Namco I keep all the NAMCOs in N so that’s fine, the Zelda must have slipped but I won’t be fixing it! See the drive people are downloading from is getting replaced!! I have the complete collection on another 8 TB drive, the one people are downloading from is a 2 TB!! That 2 TB is going to a friend and I will be replace is with another 8 TB!

So yea I could fix it but it wouldn’t matter much, its been corrected on the soon to be ffshrine drive!

On a side note, 8TB is a lot of space. I’ve got a NAS that only has 4GB and it’s only about half filled with content, which is mostly from a group of friends who rip their own stuff as well as download it.

Namco might not be the name of the album but its a series which is why its under N instead of R for ridge racer.. Did you notice any dupes/>? Those I like getting rid of… I made the mistake one time of allowing people to upload directly into the folders instead of an upload folder… I won’t make that mistake again!!

Short answer yes. I have some flacs and maybe a few waves mixed in. I don’t separate them having tons of TBs of space.

well i tried once to get connected, but i havent lucky

I’m behind a firewall and router… Secure enough for me, plus I keep backups of all my music and pictures so I’m not too worried.
FTP is old school but better and more fun than a torrent for p2p. It adds a face to the person sharing but that’s just me.

I’ve been part of a private non-vgm specific FTP-based community for over a decade now. I think it’s the best way to go by a large margin, as long as people are respectful about it. I’ve humored setting up a server myself a few times, but never got to putting in the research.

Oh I stand by that statement and I’ll tell you why. If you post , lets say " Street Fighter " ost than that means someone looking for a soundtrack can just search " Street Fighter" FTP is not something well searched. My hope was to get more coverage and maybe entice a newbie or two to actually learn something OLD but new to them.

To any one thinking it would be a bandwidth death wish consider this, I work 55 hours a week. I do not use my computer more often than I use it. Why not get my moneys worth on my Comcast cable since I’m paying for it anyways…

At any rate I would give you the same advise as given to me awhile back. You may wish to avoid posting your ip address due to search engines etc. I would suggest using spoiler tags and if you do not feel comfortable creating your own thread than by all means share here 🙂 Maybe if enough of us decide to create ftp servers than the forum admin / mods will grant a sub forum dedicated to sharing collections as opposed to just DL links

I just tested the upload so it should work. Weekends is a hit and miss as I have those days off from work and tend to GAME!! Anyways take it easy and you are all welcome. I hope you enjoy whatever it is you get.

Sigh. I don’t need FAQ/Instructions, I’m not a newbie with FTP & co., been managing my family database for years.

I’m using an add-on for Mozilla Firefox, namely, FireFTP (before you might say something about it not working, I’ll have you know that it works completely fine for the likes of my server and Emuparadise’s FTP, upload-wise). I wanted to upload an album for you, so I’ve logged into your server using the "upload / upload" credentials, I do log in and see the stuff other users have uploaded for you, but when I try to start the upload process your server returns me a Permission denied error and boots me out. Tried again just now and got the same result.

Not that big of an issue, at any rate, if you would like to have that album I’ll just send a link your way.

@Leon Scott Kennedy try using FileZilla. It’s a bit more stable when it comes to uploads. I do web development and I can say FireFTP causes a crapton of senseless problems when it comes to uploading…

Hey, I did not just shared my game music but all my music lol. Game albums, movie albums and some anime are the only ones I have full albums for the most part. Oh and if you don’t like the style of porn music just go download Sonic 1 album, I swear it reminds me of porn tracks

I have been thinking of dubbing porn videos with VGM for some time. I have heard so many tracks, especially from the 16-bit era, that would go perfect with a porn movie.

Funny thing happened today. The internet went out. I called and found out I did not have internet service. That means my girlfriend must have not set up service and thought maybe her sister transfer it to our new place… This means for the last year and a half I’ve had free internets!!!

No shit, Comcast sucks but free is good. So today I started my Comcast account… Don’t waste my monthly Comcast bill , log in, que up and enjoy.

That will be fixed . On a side note its not longer OK for me to just take my server off line, I have to now switch my port forwarding to a fictitious IP in order to game in peace.. Look I know, it sucks at times., We want our music NOW. I get that way, or used to. Bottom line. I am not going any where. I will be here sharing my collection.

Normally like to CAP the download speed when I’m gaming because ( a steady download is most important versus WTF I CANTDOWNLOADAT1000MBS!!11) However I’m seeing fit to shut off server + change port forwarding to a fictitious port because someone keeps ddosing me when my server is down 🙂 So go ahead, its being forwarded to an IP that does not exist and I can go on about my gaming/

Not sure if the rest of your comment was directed at me or just in general but I am not attempting to grab everything right away either. The quota would run out before downloading each month anyway. It is downloading to my off-site location which I share from, I have not even got my own copy of what I have collected yet.
I usually get around 120KB/s down from you and I can understand if that affects your other activities.

I am also in for the long haul and also plan to share a mirror of your stuff plus anything else I have. I already run a FTP providing service not gaming related.
I am also part of a community wireless network where this will be shared as does other stuff.

The client I use should only make 1 connection (maybe 2 but doesn’t seem like it ever does), I have seen that Mozilla based clients like to hammer multiple connections but I dont think it is the fault of the user especially if its Firefox as it doesn’t show the status of its FTP connections. On your FTP server setting the connection limit per IP to 2 should be fine for clients. One connection for browsing and one for transferring. Some clients do abuse that and download using both connections though.

If you play games online expect to be attacked so that you can’t play. I doubt it would be FTP causing it.

No, it was most likely someone upset the server went offline.. Its an easy fix, just switch internal IP with my router to where it does not even reach me 🙂 anyways server is back up and uncapped. It goes down if I get too lagged when gaming

I wonder if he forgot to turn the FTP server back on. I get the error "ECONNREFUSED – Connection refused by server" in Filezilla.

As of 2016-04-08 12:44 East Coast time, it’s back up.

I’ve logged in. It’s a great ftp. I’m downloading one album per time.

I wonder if that’s related to the errors I was having downloading certain files. There has been a few now so I just left it.

Sometimes if you can not get in its one of two things on my end.

I am behind a router and sometimes the dam router assigns me a different ip for example I have port forwarding set up to blah blah.2 and after a reset it assigns me .4 so that port forwarding set up for .2 no longer works thus people can not connect. ( I check that a few times a week )

NOW the other might be the old hard drive versus the new one. I changed things in the ftp program so maybe reput in all the info!! gl

Either setup the IP manually or make the router permanently lease that IP to it based on its MAC address if the router is capable of doing so.

Give it a try now. I’ve changed a lot of things around with regards to the router no longer being at the mercy of my girlfriends sister lol. Anyways I also assigned an internal IP to MY computer thus port forwarding will not be messing up when it assignees people in my home a different internal ip ( mine will stay the same )

I just tried to connect to my own server and got the same error. THAN it asked me if I want to update my FileZilla client. I choose yes and it started downloading and even registered that I connected to my FTP.

It’s firewall issue on server side with PASV mode, nothing to do on client side.

Why not try connection with out using pasv mode? Although admittedly I’m having issues. It has a static internal IP address and port forwarding is set correctly. I also have exceptions to windows file sharing and the program is allowed in nortans.. I’m at a loss here and tired as heck.

Ill look into it further later .

PS. Instead of going to bed, I decided to snoop around the actual FTp settings as they were never touched between getting a new Ip address . I choose let FileZilla use ip, versus having the option choose to put my own ip in ( which happened to be my old one. )

it allowed me to connect and opened a directory ( so I could download from my self ) maybe it might work for you!! go give it a try

I typically post my updates on thread next to every ones comments… I know people race ahead once they read the ip info etc.. I think I need to stress that some people are showing 10 connections at a time.. Meaning they are downloading 10 songs at a time as opposed to 1 at a time.. Normally I would not allow this but times have changed so what the hell.

I need to stress that if YOU have a connection of 5Kbs , be it 1 connection or 10, do not stress out. Look, I know that feeling of getting music you have wanted for a long time. I get that there are many sources that may be unstable.. Bottom line, I am a gamer. I game a lot online. So if you are at a reduced speed , its better than nothing at all.

I also work about 50-70 hours a week so while at work Ill try and remember to uncap speeds … Go Wild, I’m about to head to bed!!

Hey, I still share and right now I am not home every day. I drive Truck now so I’m gone for a week at a time HOWEVER here’s what happened and feel free to share this.

I reinstalled windows because my girlfriend got some nasty Trojans and crap on it, when I reinstalled it left old copies of windows which messed up my FTP etc.. I’m leaving for work but when I come back in a week I will be doing a fresh install of windows and restarting my FTP up ( promise )

Yea, people will need to make note that sometimes when I reboot my comp it resets my internal ip address to a different ending number. Thus I have to just go in and manuely change the port forwarding trigger to reflect the changes thus allowing all you guys to connect.

I am located in NY and would like to know what times accessibility is EST time, from what you wrote operations hours arent a full 24/7 so this would be helpful. Hopefully you don’t but do you limit downloads?

Well its up most of the time. Id say the time it would be down a lot would be Sunday and Monday when I’m gaming but lately ive been leaving it up unless it gets really lagged. At that point I will try throttling the account to a real low speed until I’m finished gaming.

I am of the firm belief and always felt when I was downloading stuff that GETTING it was more important than Which speed. Sure I loved fast speeds but if it came slow and steady than so be it. With that said I keep it unthrottled and only throttle it if there is a lot of people on and I’m gaming OR I turn it off if there’s tons of people on when I’m trying to game. Your chances these days are very good of hopping on and downloading a bunch of stuff.

Lastly unlike many others out there I’ve always shared with no expectations. back in the days of ratio servers or trade only servers I NEVER once engaged in that practice nor would I ever.

Try changing your passive mode settings. Let me know if it works. My server is pretty much up all the time since hardly any one uses it. ON A SIDE NOTE, I’ve been pondering setting up some torrents but I’m not sure just yet. I don’t need them being spread around to other websites and such. Most certainly not that shit gff elitist community haha..

It might be a firewall issue. Port 6969 is not open by default. You might want to close it afterwards, for it seems to be exploited a lot.

On a side note I would like your thoughts about me breaking up my complete collection of VG music and creating a torrent of it , in chunks. I’ve been wary of this because A) its taken my since Nov of 1998 to amass this collection and B) because I am old school in that I like community, with a FACE, communication, friends etc p2p . I’ve always seen torrents to be pretty much a faceless p2p leach fest and why would I or any one want to support that.
I agree with the torrent idea, would help much more people that dislike or don’t deal with using FTP. I’d seed for sure, I have a 3tb hard drive anyway

I had a pretty nice collection of soundtracks at one point (nothing like yours, just some of my favorites) and lost them all in a hard drive crash about a year ago. Thanks to your FTP server, over time I’ll be able to get my collection back to its former glory (if not better).

I had a pretty nice collection of soundtracks at one point (nothing like yours, just some of my favorites) and lost them all in a hard drive crash about a year ago. Thanks to your FTP server, over time I’ll be able to get my collection back to its former glory (if not better).

Yes. I see them often on Chrome for iPad. For systems where it’s an option, I would recommend uBlock Origin. Frankly everyone should have that installed. And HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger and Decentraleyes. I do not receive any ad popups from here with these installed.

On a side note I really thought more people would be logging on and downloading from over 400 GB of game soundtracks. For you NEW AGE guys let me just say that using an FTP browser is super easy. I have decided never to host 400 GB of game music via torrent.

Also I’m typically gone for 5 days at a time which is PRIME TIME to log on and que up…

About the random pop-ups, I too have noticed them but strangely only when browsing for threads or on the first page of a thread. Not sure exactly why, but my A/V keeps alerting me of "HTML:Script-inf" threat on the main browse page. I doubt it is anything overly serious but rather more of just an annoyance.

Just checked the server, some of you may need to switch between passive mode or not… either way its up and running.

Can’t connect using last filezilla, with or without passive mode.

Gonna log in soon in a few hours to grab all the Vertiphon uploads! Hyped!

Not sure what to say at this point. I try to check to make sure its working using an online ftp tester. Maybe try active mode?

Shively just letting you know I’m connecting again. I wasn’t able to login to this forum for a while but it works again.

I believe I only had 1 or 2 game album directories to go but will be doing a full check so most if it is scanning directories and comparing not downloading files for now.

Server going offline indefinitely. Its really amazing in this day and age how many people really aren’t into collecting game music. or rather aren’t in to FTPs and must have their torrents. Call me behind on the times but FTP really is a great way to share. I’m moving and my server is offline.

I agree, it was awesome connecting to your collection and downloading what I wanted. I even uploaded a fair few you didn’t have which I feel is an awesome way to say thank you for sharing. I hadn’t connected for a few years but remember first connecting to it and thinking it was awesome 🙂 Good luck with your move.

FTP has its place but is really showing its age. I find DC a lot better.
Torrents give me the shits, more so the clients.

I updated my FTP client recently and found out that the old version didn’t support all character encodings so a heap of stuff I got from you Shively has messed up file names!

300+ GB of clusterfuck after months worth of leeching! I share too but arrrg.

Torrent, DC or sneakernet… I’ll take any option. Even a complete file list so I can fix up the file names would help.

Just found this and sadly missed out. I’ve been doing everything via FTP since the mid-90s and I agree – it’s a *great* way to share. Good luck and thanks for supporting countless folks over the years.

Hey man something different about me that maybe others don’t take into consideration is
I don’t care how slow you are, its more important that you get the music than worry if you are too slow. I’m not saying that because I’m slow, I’m saying that because I started out on a 56k modem back in the day haha I know how it is. BTW thanks for sharing that link, I’m going to go check them out.

I wasn’t worried about speed when downloading, it took over 6 months actual FTP time to get what I did from you Shively.

When I mean upload speed I mean that as I’m constantly uploading I have to split upload time to other things. I upload to Mapillary (https://www.mapillary.com/app/user/didz) (just uploading 10,000 images now, 5000 took 9 hours and they are the lowest quality images you can set). I can’t limit the upload speed of it so other things suffer.
I can’t FTP because I’m using a private VPN and can’t get ports forwarded at the other end. That is why soulseek is ok.
I’m on a local DC hub on a community wireless network 100+ Mbit both ways and share almost 10TB.

Waiting for NBN so can go from 1-4Mbit ADSL to either a 50Mbit or 100Mbit connection then I don’t have to worry about upload priorities so much and share the glory.

on a side note, my FTP is slower because sometimes I like to game and limit the BW so I don’t lag. Its that F**king comcast but in about a month if my server keeps being used like it is and once I get my budget straighten out ill increase my speeds drastically.

I checked, my ip address is the same. It may have been down. Right now the server is capped because I have shit` comcast lowband internet and once I get my budget in order ill increase my speeds. That fukcing comcast really milks everything they can, cant wait for google internet or some other decent provider to move in to my area…

ADD: Ok guys I should have known. I just bought an HP Envy 7855 and am using the WIFI option for printing ( less cords ) anyways in the setting it up my router changed last number of my internal ip from 2 to 3 hence the port forwarding was not getting to my computer 🙁

Its up, sometimes my router changes the last digit of the internal IP and if I don’t catch it it appears the server is offline until I change the port forwarding… Anyways done and done. Thanks for any contributions to my music selection.

I have to say, this is quite the collection.
Too bad FTP doesn’t work like P2P, where those who have it can also contribute to uploading.

Torrenting is such a risky business today for public use.

I would love to contribute as a part-time sharer, but given the limitations of FTP, the best I can do is re-up some things I grab and put them on MEGA to lessen the bandwidth-load.

Hey man, just logged in now, really cool of you. i will say though, that my GUI client was having none of it when i tried to connect, dont know what that was about.

I am always happy when people share but its never required. ONE thing I can proudly say is I never ran a ratio server NOR required people trade or upload to me first. Large collections were amassed in the early 2k’s from requiring people to trade or upload but still I prefer to share my music strings free.

I talked to someone local to me about possibly getting together and dumping my full collection onto his portable but I think that fell thru. If any one is in Oregon or Washington and intends to share their VGmusic, let me know , ill gladly dump my collection onto a portable 🙂

As far as the failed aborted transfers, were you able to APPEND them? I guess ill look in the MAX folder and try to figure it out. Sometimes the computer needs a resetting and or the speed needs to be turned down for gaming.

Most of the time I just like to leave it uncapped , open and let people run wild on it.

Most people pass by though, they have no idea how much they miss out on by their unwillingness to learn how to use an FTP.. Everything has to be TORRENTZ!! Which I would like to make a few sometime but ill always share via ftp.

you may want to check your past some settings and you also might want to try again I did have my server down for a short period of time you know if that works thanks

Wow, FTP w@raz is so old skool. I still have 2 clients installed on my machine but haven’t used them for years. I still occasionally download and upload via Usenet though. From memory people here used to share using another peer to peer service, DC++.

Last email I received from Shively was 17th May 2019.
It is a shame as I managed to get almost everything from them which took many months.
But then I found out my FTP client was old and didn’t support UTF-8 so some of the file names are messed up.

I still share though but there are much better things out there than FTP.

Would love to share VGM if your sever comes back.
