After several releases, in 2006 Banana Blitz brought something new to the Super Monkey Ball series: Bosses! Once AiAi and friends made it past the set of stages/world, they would encounter a minion of the new antagonist, Captain Nikalsa. The "battles" (as far as I know) mainly involved running into switches and whatnot to cause harm to each boss, as opposed to attacking directly. If the player did well enough (i.e. racked up enough bananas without dying), then up to two additional worlds could be unlocked, albeit without bosses.
