Due to the obscurity of the OVA titled "Tooyama Sakura Uchuu Chou Yatsu no Na wa Gold" or simply "Samurai Gold", I don’t think this album has ever been shared before. As a an enthusiast of rare soundtracks/albums and a great admirer of the music of Kentaro Haneda, it is a pleasure, and almost a duty, to share the soundtrack to this rare title. Btw, if anyone is interested in knowing more about this OVA, this review (https://nergalheavyindustries.wordpress.com/2014/06/06/the-obscurities-in-the-western-connection-catalogue-samurai-gold/) explains in depth the story of the OVA and how is a modern adaptation to an old kabuki play.

Well, anyone who knows a little bit about the career of Kentaro Haneda as music composer will know that the 80s were his golden age. Although this album is from 1988, comes from a period in which Kentaro Haneda was not as active as in the past in the anime scoring scene. Imho, this album is a very fine effort from an excellent musician and it’s worthy to be recommended to anyone who enjoys other works of Kentaro Haneda and soundtracks of the same period, because these kind of soundtracks has a characteristic feel to it very different from the modern scores.

In this score, the mood that predominates throughout the album is one of light comedy and jollity. That is not to say that doesn’t have its darker and serious moments, because there are a good deal of tracks filled with tension and drama, but as a whole the album has a light atmosphere. Some of the music, which is still very idiosyncratic, reminds me of Ennio Morricone’s less serious western soundtracks like "My Name is Nobody…", which mixes nostalgia and optimism very well.

A distinctive score like the old days. Enjoy it!
