The Opinion on Homestuck

So, a few years ago, after a well deserved hiatus from this site, I got into this thing called Homestuck. It’s a webcomic (of sorts) and I was wondering y’all’s opinion of it. I thought General discussion was the best place but if it needed to be put on artistic discussion (or closed), I’m cool with that. Blab on.

I like it, the music’s nice and the characters are well written. Are you up to date?

I am actually. I been caught up since before the Gigapause. Boy was that a nightmare.

What even after their rather intriguing discourse with Jasperosesprite^2? I gave it some thought—because even I admit it was shocking in the bad way—when they prototyped. They are rather synchronous as a combined character and might end up being quite a help to the comic as a whole.

I am not up to date, however considering my Homestuck experience started at a con and I’ve loved it ever since, I really should get caught up.

I really don’t like Davepetasprite^2, I feel like Hussie destroyed their characters for the sake of a gag.

IMO nearly everything since mental breakdown has been lackluster or disappointing. I binge read the entire thing (first read) in the week before, and finished just as the new update went live (I’ve since done a 2nd complete read); writing-wise everything just feels pale in comparison. There was a lot of growth and character development pre-retcon, that has obviously been chucked out the wagon. These days it seems to be mostly about nonsensical gags, jumping around so we have no clear-cut idea of what is going on, dancing around relationships so the fanbase can jizz themselves that their favorite pairing is "confirmed," stalling conversations people are looking forward to for as long as possible (which have mostly ended up disappointing anyway)…oh and more "pausing."

Why "unpause" if you only have to "pause" again in a few weeks? It cuts through morale.

Well, I guess, it did give an interesting look at who they are and how they melded, but it just doesn’t grab the way that Jasprosesprite^2 did because the characters that he chose didn’t really gel in my mind. At least Davesprite’s baggage has been resolved.

Things I did like about the update was Alternate Calliope and Jade, she’s a great foil to how Calliope could have been and Jade hasn’t really had a mentor figure so that should be interesting.
