First, CDs are not nice to look at. Secondly, the "support the original artists" argument has been laden with a "bullshit" banner for some time now. Physical or digital sales of any kind support the industry and the industry is most unpleasant. I only buy vinyls because they support my own fetishistic take on self-gratification. Otherwise, torrenting is the way to go- I’m pretty sure that for some torrents I’m the only one left seeding and making those downloads possible.

Well.. you could just buy writeable virgin CDs and burn music onto them. That’s what I do for playing my library in the car even though my car has about 5 different ways of connecting to my iPod/Phone. I love the old school feel of the disc. It’s what I recently started doing with movies anyway. 50 GB double-layered Blu-ray printable discs and chuck in 2-3 as-close-to-untouched-as-I-can-be-bothered-with movies (screw extras) on each piece.
Re-encoding and working around the complicated menus to get the structure right can be a chore the first few times but it’s an inexpensive, and sometimes borderline fun, set-up compared to archival enlargement by SSDs.
Oh, I’ll usually make simple covers to print on the discs for better recognition and voila. Yes, I would argue that my collection is better packaged than any store bought one. If only in-car Blu-ray players were a reality…

Well as some of you know, I’m a photographer for Lifetouch (http://lifetouch.com/). All summer long I’ve been doing senior portraits (senior as in high school senior, 12th Grade) at schools all over New York State. Some schools are very far away and so we stay at hotels overnight. The way it’s always worked is that should you be working at a school that’s far away (2.5 hours or more, usually), they put us up in a hotel the night before the shoot. This way we’re not leaving our houses at the crap of dawn and driving for that long before a long day of work. So I work at this school near Syracuse, NY Thursday and Friday. So far I’ve heard nothing from any of my superiors. Where I’m staying, what time I meet them, nada. So I text Chris and ask him the details and he says I’m only in a hotel Thursday night into Friday, and not Wednesday night into Thursday. This mean that I’ll have to get up at about 5AM tomorrow and drive almost 3 hours out to the school and start my work day. In addition to that, I had just gotten out of the shower and started packing. I was thinking I was leaving tonight. So that’s why I’m pissed off. As an employer, you shouldn’t expect your employees to do that. It’s unfair. Am I wrong here?

One guy on there used autism as an insult. I get in an argument with him because he hates me for doing FUCK ALL to him, and he just says "Sorry kid, I can’t hear you over your autism". I’m not even autistic.

And in this instance, Jessie closed his thread because of the argument which you initiated it, albeit unintentionally. My point is that you need to learn when to drop stuff. Don’t go on and on and on and on about something until it drives people mad.

And nobody else here ever had arguments with him like that.

I’m willing to forgive and forget, but he told me he couldn’t, so he did what he thought was best and left, probably for good.

I agree with your post and I personally can’t disagree with anything and you speak the truth with it. I should really just have ignored such posts and leave it be and maybe the harm would of been less. I say I’m sorry for my behaviour sometimes. I know it doesn’t mean anything at this point, but most of the times I really try. Mr. Gold is a nice guy and I’m sorry if I sometimes upset him, he never had a bad intention and neither did I.. but I think I, should have tried to understand him (sometimes I do with people) and instead of just calling him out on his sensiveness, just.. try to stand with him, as in, help him, talk to him in a more calm way trying to make a point instead of plain just arguing and being more rude. I never meant to do harm to him. Some of the stuff, he was just being a bit too sensitive over the silliest comments but I should have.. either ignored or understand him and worded myself better or tell him personally that I never meant no harm. You know yesterday’s joke that started the end of it all? Thinking about it now, replying with "I’m sorry if it offended you, it wasn’t my intention, but I personally don’t find it offensive, but I respect your opinion" would of been the best and most logical thing to do.

Hey, at least I can reason sometimes, and admit my fault and mistakes, that makes me a not so terrible person and sometimes I try to make up for them. Here, here. I made the switch when in the space of three years I had two PCs die. First one the video card fried and took some of the other components with it. Second one, the replacement for the first and thank god for warranties, the hard drive crashed. After that I said enough and went Mac. (I still have a G-4 Powerbook that works. It’s a boat anchor in terms of speed but hey, you never forget your first.)

You aren’t unlikeable because of it, it’s you and as friends we learn to bare it and sometimes help you with it, we don’t bash you or hate you for it. No one’s perfect. And you don’t have to worry about your "preferences" because it’s really not an issue either. But if you’re worried because you’ve seen sometimes people in this forum openly against it, you shouldn’t let that affect you, the majority of people here doesn’t really mind it and likes you anyway as a person. I mean, there’s all types of people in this world and this forum is too big, so there’s all kinds of different people. Just because there’s two or three that are mean or judging persons do not mean everyone’s like that. 🙂

Along with my music scholarship money from the uni, I might actually be able to start saving up for the one big thing I’ve been wanting for a long time – a quality acoustic guitar that I can truly call my own. That would be amazing.

This morning was nice, but a bit frustrating – for the first time since I’ve weekly frequented this particular Costa Coffee, the pretty barista behind the counter actually showed that she recognised me. When she saw me, she smiled and instead of asking the usual "What can I get you?", she asked "Medium hot chocolate with cream?", which was nice. 🙂

But frustratingly and somewhat typically, that was the last time I’ll be going there for quite some time. I actually have no idea when I’ll be going back. 🙁

If she does, it’s too late. :/

I’ll try and go back if and when I can when I’m back from uni in the hols if I’m needed for the babysitting job I do there.

That’s how things work in this bureaucratic land, our so-called "Government" insists on "Austerity" which roughly translates to cutting corners on the jobs and the medical field.

For instance, my mother had an unusual tumor on her left breast at the beginning of August and we had to wait until the very end of the month to obtain assistance. Granted it turned out to be a harmless treatable condition that went away quickly but still, waiting 20+ days to treat a potentially mortal condition is nothing sort of pig-headed absurdity.

Fuck sake. In tears again.

Been feeling this way since yesterday afternoon. I forgot to take a claritin, I think that may be *part* of the issue. I took a nap and skipped dinner last night. Woke up in time for the Modern Family season premiere, fell asleep on the couch, watched Conan and went to bed. Didn’t sleep great (though I thought I would given how tired I was, now I’m thinking I should’ve bought some nightquil to knock me out) and now my head is pounding and my nose is still running. It’s 1:47PM, I only got out of bed 10 minutes ago. I don’t feel like doing anything, but I feel like I should get out and get some fresh air. Maybe I’ll go downtown and chill in the plaza.

I have since met somebody else, who is going through near identical circumstances (including some pretty huge weight loss) and it turns out we have so much in common…our first date was a double bill of Interstellar and Inception at the IMAX in Waterloo. She loved every minute of it (although she’s seen the films at home) and asked me on the way home…"do you like Hans Zimmer?"……..so yeah 🙂 She’s a keeper x

Its a horrible place to visit, now and that is sad i used to enjoy the talks and laughs, but that seems to be gone now (granted most are busy with work/school/college ect) but when people are on it now feels like the fun is gone. Maybe its just me i donno, but i even feel uncomfatble posting in most threads now for fear of well anything…

If i am correct i actually believe its true what some have said… everyone comes here for the music, if there is no big releases they just log off. Maybe true but sad.

Mr. Gold, a lot of people were not happy with how he basically became a dictator. We had to post with our eyes on the backs of our heads, fearing something may get deleted or worse – someone gets banned. And that’s no way to live. This is the internet, not communist Cuba (or any other country ruled by a dictator). The people voiced their opinion, which clearly outweighed how successful the way things were going: they weren’t.

I heard rumors/blatantly false reports of Mothersbaugh and Danna, but never Beck.

I bought the Saga on bluray a few Christmas’ ago when they were dirt cheap.
Just don’t have the heart to actually watch them.
The Despecialized versions, I’ve read through the forums for what they do and believe they can do so much more.
But, they’ve put so much work into it, there’s no point in trying to correct some things.
If they did things differently, probably wouldn’t really notice a differnce between the different formats.

The codes they used are largely upgraded and more accurate today.
Plus, they were working film celluloid captures.
I think film cell is meant to be a different color gamut/colorspace than typical digital formats.
Keeping everything BT.709 is just digital default.
But a colorspace conversion would have helped.

A lot of forums and sites default to the excuse that "they know what they’re doing".
But, I can’t see celluloid film being BT.709.
Setting it BT.709 would look dry and delapitated.
Setting it higher then downconverting with high-end Avisynth filters would give it the accurate colors it needs for average computers/tv we have today.

Blu-ray uses BT.709 for the colorspace.
It’s severely limited, so appears satured when converted from "theater" colors to "bluray/dvd" colors.

Same thing I saw with the "Jurassic Park" preservation project.
But, no one thinks to ask because everyone assumes the Project Leader already covered that when all the details they post don’t prove they did.

Film is not called the "Silver Screen" for no reason.

Home video doesn’t need a silver TV.
Just a black one.
The colorspace/gamut is much narrower.

Just some things most don’t consider.

Terms like "Director Approved" don’t ammount to much.
Everyone wants things to look like how it was presented in theater.
But, I think that’s where the directors fail: They only make movies for the Silver Screen and not for the home theater (which plenty of people spend thousands on each year).

Blu-rays look excellent because the colorspace has been confined to a minimal space.
Just enough before it gets destroyed and very bland (VHS, etc).

Those sort of things.

But the clever.. man, was just terribly baiting me and pissing me off in purpose, to show everyone my pissed off side. As for Sparky, well, all I can say is that I’ve never had a problem with his moderation and I think he has actually done a perfectly fine job so far. He has good standards and strives to keep them for the benefit of us all. As has already been noted, he never uses foul language and always remains calm and collected, even with you breathing expletives down his neck the whole time, and for that I respect him. You could (and should) learn a lesson or two from him.

So, how am I feeling? Tired. That just about sums it up.

The human story isn’t that great.
No one says anything good about the human aspect, like any other giant monster flick.
Basic writing. Basic dialogue.
The Japanese chick has a decent background story, though.

The sound design is the best I’ve heard since Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

The cool thing about the bluray is that the audio has two tracks:
5.1 mix
7.1 mix

They’re both 16bit, though.

They planned it for the right audiences.
Only thing missing is an isolated score.

How come I’ve never seen loads of major films? I won’t answer that with another question. I’ll answer it with an answer. 🙂

A few reasons. Firstly, my parents never let us watch movies all the time as kids growing up, and when we did watch films they were always checked out first and if my parents didn’t deem them suitable for us we didn’t see them. Simple as that. And I’m actually really grateful to them for their concern and protection. I don’t hold it against them at all. Secondly, as a Christian I have certain standards I try to stick to. That immediately rules out a whole heap of films that were major hits and are big parts of pop culture. Thirdly, I have my own personal preferences when it comes to what I watch. If a film doesn’t interest me, I won’t watch it just because everyone else has. I won’t be pressured into watching something just for the sake of it. It’s for this reason I haven’t and won’t see the likes of Psycho, Under The Skin, and Saw (as completely random examples of a couple of genres I’m not interested in for personal and faith-based reasons). See where I’m coming from?

The Hateful Eight is getting Ultra Panavision 70mm aspect ratio of 2.76:1.

Not sure if any of the youtube uploads actually use that aspect ratio.

I might see these^ one day if it makes you happy. 🙂

Lately it’s been going through this cycle where every now and then it’ll shut down on me after I’ve had the screen shut for a while. It usually occurs when I go to bed at night. I never shut it down, just close the screen. And sometimes I’ll wake up and it’ll be turned off. Then I’d have to boot it in safe mode and then restart. But I’ve tried that. I tried many things. I think my next step is to take it to the Apple Store and pray to God they can resolve the issue without having to replace the HD or anything that drastic :/

In other news, I’m pretty darn tired. Had a crazy day. 6:55am got up and showered. 7:50am left my flat without breakfast. 8:10am bought mocha latte and gf chocolate brownie. 8:15am arrived at the cathedral. 8:30am choir rehearsal in the cathedral. 9:30am went on a turquoise tie hunt around town, grabbed some pizza slices and a croissant for breakfast. 10:30am first graduation ceremony in cathedral. 11:45am speed-walked back up to campus. 12pm Screenwriting seminar. 1pm walked back into town with friends for coffee. 1:20pm arrived at Starbucks, ordered mocha white hot chocolate and caramel waffles. 2:20pm walked to cathedral. 2:30pm second graduation ceremony. 3:30pm walked back up to campus again. 4pm Reading Film seminar. 5:30pm arrived back in flat.

One of my favorite ties is my reversible turquoise tie. Alfani Spectrum. They make some of the best ties, I have quite a few. My favorite one of all my ties is the green Alfani one.

White is not my style. I hate white shirts to be honest. I know they’re classic, but I like some color. And it sucks because I have a blue velvet tie and the only shirt I can wear it with is my white shirt.

I’m feeling very happy to be back home. It’s the first time I’ve been back since starting uni, and it’s such a lovely feeling. I literally cannot wait to get into my own bed in a minute. 😀

I’m Feeling A Bit Brighter Today, Had A Lay In This Morning. And Some Time to Think. I Am Truly Heartbroken But I Need to Lern to Function On My Own.
So I’m Starting Today, First Off My Cleaning My Apartment, And Then Sorting All My Stuff Out Properly And Some Decorating. Keep My Mind Busy, Luckly I Have All The Music Everyone Has Shared Here To Keep Me Happy Aswell.

Hold up in there, chaps. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel (and sometimes the silhouette of a figure in a suit holding a gun, but that’s only occasionally and only in theatres, especially October 26th 2015).

In complete contrast, I’m feeling rather positive. In just over 2 hours I’ll be catching a train to go visit my friend and stay the night. He and I are going to finally get round to watching the first of RDJ’s Sherlock Holmes movies. Can’t wait!

Then, over the weekend when my sister comes down from Manchester to stay for a couple of nights, she and I will FINALLY get round to watching Iron Man 3 together! That finally frees me up to catching up with the rest of the MCU. And I can’t flippin’ wait for that.

Could’ve been worse. $500 isn’t exactly my language, but at the same time it’s cheaper than a brand new Mac – a brand new Mac where I’d have to start all over again. Pretty sure I have $500 at the moment, but I think I’ll wait till payday should something else come up. At least it’s not my HD. So I guess I’m feeling "just ok" for now.

Well.. it sucks that you have to pay such price, but at least you should feel a bit relieved that it can be fixed and that, once you pay that price, you’ll still you have your Mac and everything you had on your HDD all saved.
