Dynamic Range Compression

Hi everyone,
i listen to my scores at home, while working, in the car etc.
I’m sick of having to mess with the volume all the time. Is there an easy and FREE way of compressing the dynamic range so there is not so much of a massive difference between quiet and loud parts.

some player, like wmp i using before, could equalizing volume if transfer for mp3 player or similar. perhaps this is same?

then driving your car, which player do you use?

In my opition: deal with it. The worst thing on earth is to compress the dynamic range in music. That’s the reason I very dislike radio…maybe 3dB dynamic range…very horrible.

I am massively against the loudness war and very anti-compression… but when you’re driving, listening with a low dynamic range is advantageous; it’s the same old story. You turn up the volume to hear Spiegl im Spiegl, then the next track is Dies Irae from Verdi’s Requiem, you get blasted out of your seat, and rear-end the police car right in front of you. (I’ve never rear-ended a police car, but I get the general idea…)

As for software to do it with, I’m afraid I can’t suggest anything. I have plenty of dynamic range compressors in my toolkit but no simple one-click affairs… I hope somebody else can help you out. 🙂
