Thanks, Erich. I had grabbed this one some time ago from soulseek and didn’t realize it was an unused/rejected score. Funny story…Corigliano led a multi-disciplinary (band, orchestra, choir) series of his performances at my college while i was in undergrad. This was within a year or two of the Red Violin. I brought my copies of it and Altered States to get them signed. In front of the "classical" musicians greeting him, he signed my CDs while joking somewhat negatively about soundtrack lovers. "They are their own thing. There is a whole subculture who just loves movie music." These are not his exact words…but his implied meaning was that movie music was VERY secondary to "true" serious music. It was as if he was saying I collected baseball cards without watching or attending the sport itself. I still love his music, but it almost sounded like this Academy Award winning, Grammy-nominated composer found the whole soundtrack scene silly or amateurish. If that’s true, it’s too bad…his touch would be a mile above many current composers if he chose to add his voice to more projects.
