This is gonna be my third version of this magnificent piece of 20th century music. One is the San Francisco Symphony with Herbert Blomstedt and the other is the London Symphony with Richard Hickox. Thanks.

Just had to add, that if this is Dorati’s ’76 recording with John Shirley-Quirk, Norma Burrowes and Louis Devos, then this is the one to get. Of all the recordings I’ve heard over the years this one stands well above the rest. The vibrant rhythms, vigorous orchestra and outstanding soloists and chorus make this a superlative listen.

Although Im a great admirer of Dorati I havent heard his version of "Carmina Burana" yet. My desert island version though will probably always be the Jochum recording since it has impeccable soloists. Nobody will ever be able to beat Fischer-Dieskau at his intonation and clarity of text 🙂 Plus the recording sounds spectacular and Jochum’s conducting makes it pure excitement.
