His status still reads "grand shriner" and not "banned" (as I imagine it would if he were banned).

Why should tapoktro be banned?

I gave him a three day ban for posting Airwolf Themes. I have told him many times in the past to check what he posts before posting them. As a result, we were contacted by the producer, again, and asked kindly to remove the links. We shouldn’t have to remove what isn’t supposed to be posted in the first place, especially by a member that’s been here long enough to know what should and shouldn’t be posted.

no, he has not.
he never, ever gives any credit. he puts his stolen links into our threads, so he can gain profit from it.

Most people get the link from the first post in the thread, they only look elsewhere when the link in the first post doesn’t work anymore.

Also, he’s only following forum guidelines by posting a mirror link in the same thread, as stated in the thread i created here (Thread 98919) to stop cluttering up the forum with multiple links to the same soundtrack.

Getting credit for an original post would be great, but in fairness he could be getting links from an alt source or different person that purchased the album. Either way it’s not really belonging to anyone except the composer and anyone posting any music here stole it from them, unless you’re the actual composer.

This is totally different.

For example, I ripped & shared an double CD (APE) at HQShare forum years ago (probably 2007), then one of our Shrine members shared my copy here in 2013 (I recognized my rip from the log). I was surprised but happy.

Tapo’s situation : Some shrine members stated clearly on their thread :’don’t steal my share’ something like this and these warnings are obviously for tapo. And we all know what’s happened.

ps: and I understand what you mean. yes, I did share quite a few albums here which are not my rip. I downloaded (or using your word ‘stealing’) from someone else but this ‘someone else’ is usually my soulseek friend, we downloaded from each other.
‘If you downloaded anything from me you can do whatever you want with it unless I tell you to keep it for yourself beforehand.’ That’s it.
This is not stealing. Well, sometimes I almost think it is just like trade. You have to build up your collections first, better have your folders nicely organized (Time,money,effort, right?). In some of the occasions you have to have some nice shit to be added to the list, or someone won’t let you see his shit.

I did a test, I shared a score with vbr quality and tapo shared the same vbr copy. Usually I share 320Kbps mp3, but that time I just wanted to have some evidence.

Great, so just because I accepted his friend request within the same year of joining ffshrine, I’m going to be ignored? Small blessings come with a big community.

I didn’t even have the foggiest idea of tapo’s "business endeavors" until earlier this year. For most of my stay here, I was nothing more than a clueless kid pirate with green gills. Argh.

Anyway, this situation rings similar to the owner of KHI has been doing for their own site; personally, I don’t mind have an ancillary "go-to" place if something has been taken down, but reupping somebody else’s work without proper credit is a no-no. Admittedly, I’m a little culpable of the same misdeeds (again, green gills), up until a little side-project thread was launched and barely received a pageview. Reality has its way of emphasizing on futility, hehehe.

So, case in point, taking shortcuts gets to nowhere fast, even if the intent is to simply share and not steal repute. Not that the major traffic would care, so long as they finished opening their package and go their own separate ways.

ever checked his friends list? that would mean you ignore a great many people. 3450, to be exact, Including me. Just saying.

Why admins don’t ban him? They have reasons, but still.

besides him posting mirrors nevertiring, what reasons would that be?
Besides the fact that he posted stuff without checking if allowed (which other users forget too, constantly)
he might not act according to "Nettiquette", agreed, but other than that, which can feel annoying, agreed, there would be no reason to ban him, as far as I can see.
I cannot argue "rights" in a place like this, Nettiquette maybe, but not "rights".

Probably yes, on soulseek, if you share certain things openly that you were told not to. There’re always some rules and etiquette, everywhere, to keep the world clean and in order.

People have shared stuff from me that I had told not to share, too. Like here, posting labels that are not allowed. As long as there is no constant disregard, i guess all is well.

You did right, sorei. People make mistakes, apology made then everything will be ok. That’s what I call general etiquette.
But there’s no such thing in Tapoktro’s dictionary, he just has no respect for other Shrine uploaders.

i understand the annoyed feeling.
i just do not want that feeling accompanying me here, hence i decided to accept how he ticks and not to pay too much attention.
There always are more important matters anyway, at least for me.

I have nothing in my folders that is not openly posted elsewhere. I have no "forbidden" items. I often use the search and make little note of who I get from. If I browse a particular member specifically, I note that. But I do not worry if an item is unique or not, that is up to the user. If I am uncertain, I message a request to share. Each individual soulseek member can adjust their settings, can block or ban me if they want. I cannot recall it happening to me though. Soulseek as a community cannot ban me for posting here though, and no one here really cares where I find a piece as long as they get theirs, so I do not find the comparison to be valid. I do not shuffle files from one forum to another, however.

My issue with Tapoktro is not the sharing of commercial releases. One can say he found it almost anywhere, with no idea of the origin. My issue is with his resharing of the custom edits and leaks. My tv sets, for instance. He knows where those come from, and he also takes the custom art. He reposts as his, and as an official album, which aside from annoying is confusing and misleading.

Just as with his posting of Airwolf score. He knows it is not allowed here. He is a long standing member. We can see he knows, because he originally posted the link to his pm box. He made a decision to link here. He was asked to remove the links on his own blog (Download Soundtracks) and he complied, yet went ahead and posted links here. Which shows he knew, and did not care. He knew Cairns watches the site, and did not care. He completely disregarded this forums rules AND safety. He could care less if we get into trouble here, yet takes care of his own place.
