Peggy Lee sings her Songs from Walt Disney’s Lady and the Tramp (Decca DL-8462)

An actual soundtrack album from Walt Disney’s 1955 animated masterpiece, LADY AND THE TRAMP, was not released until the 1990s. At the time of the film’s premiere in 1955, a Decca Records 10 inch studio recorded album of 6 songs from the film sung by Peggy Lee (who co-wrote the song score with Sonny Burke) was released. Only 3 additional tracks on this album, The Siamese Cat Song, Lady & Bella Notte (sung by George Givot) were from the soundtrack of the completed film. In 1957 the album was re-released as a 12 inch with 4 additional 45 single studio recorded tracks by Peggy Lee not on the original 10 inch LP. This long out of print LP (as far as I can determine, never released on CD) featured some wonderful songs that were written for but not used in the film. Three of these cut songs, “Jim Dear”, "Old Trusty" & “That Fellow’s A Friend of Man”, are only available on this album. This download was mastered from a � inch reel to reel tape of the Decca album and although the 24 bit mastering has improved the sound somewhat, please don’t expect any sonic miracles because, after all, this was originally recorded by American Decca, a company never known for anything even close to audiophile sound. I thought this might be a nice addendum to the Disney Records Legacy Collection CD set just released and any rare recording by Peggy Lee, one of the greatest and most unique singers of the 20th. Century, is worth a listen, especially since the songs from Lady and the Tramp are her own compositions.

"Lady & the Tramp" is truly one of my favourites (and not because I’ve owned 5 Scottish Terriers), and I agree with you — any chance to hear Peggy Lee, "one of the greatest and most unique singers of the 20th.
