Thanks so very much!
Do you know when this theme is played in the game?
I’m well aware it’s the same composer, but I’m really quite shocked how similar the main theme sounds to Attack on Titan. In many ways it has almost identical cues. Except it’s obviously different. But damn, it’s so good.
While I was cool with it on AoT (I really liked that soundtrack) and Kill la Kill… but then I got interested in him and searched out his other works.
Everything is so boring. BORING. He does everything the same way, rarely ever going out of his comfort zone. That and some of his tracks are just loud and obnoxious to me.
Now he’s on Seraph too (albeit with some other composers) but fuck me, I can’t stand this.
I understand however, every composer has a set style and shit, but Sawano is like… too samey. Then again, he’s nowhere near as bad as Kaoru Wada (in my book), but he’s coming close to it.
Well, there’s also a possibility that the people who hire him, make him do same shit. Like: "DO THE ATTACK ON TITAN THING!" "BUT…" "ATTACK ON TITAN THING, SAWANO-SAN! ATTACK ON TITAN!" You know, like Namco does with Motoi Sakuraba on the Tales games.
I really dunno. I like some of his tracks still, but. Yeah.

To each his own.
As in, I don’t mean that in a "your taste is shit" kinda way. I’m just really honestly curious.
The best I’ve ever gotten in a reply to that question was: "He’s a good composer, you don’t know what you’re talking about!"
Meh.

Comparing Hans Zimmer to James Horner much?

While I do like SOME of the ambient tracks (even though most, if not ALL of them eventually have that "this is a Sawano song" feel to it), I agree it’s typical Sawano. He has become an ber-specialist of his own style and he can’t/won’t/doesn’t want to try anything else. Since I’m not that much of a fun of his bombastic tracks, most of his soundtracks mean close to nothing for me. I swear, I just can’t handle those predictable (for his standards) "buildups" he does for nearly every song of late
It is a thread for those who are waiting for this soundtrack and I must say that this blabbering is really pissing me of.
Personally I don’t like all Sawano’s tracks. But in his every soundtrack we can find some "pearls".
I can say the same about Zimmer’s music that I don’t like it and that his almost every melody he is plaing is just like DAM DAM DAM in an infinite loop. Only drums! But also in his soundtracks we can find some "pearls" and "masterpieces"….TOLERANCE people. IF YOu don’t like Xenoblade’s X Ost then don’t download it, don’t listen to it and don’t say anything about it…
Thank YOu!

I can’t know if I don’t like it, if I can’t listen to it. So far I only listened to the few samples released, that hardly warrants full judgement.
Also, please don’t tell me, or anybody what we should be doing. If I have a need to state my opinion on Sawano and his music, I’ll state it. I don’t mind if people disagree, and who knows, a nice discussion might come out of it.
TOLERANCE people? Yes, I agree. Shame your post kinda lacks it. : P
I agree though, even Sawano has some tracks I like from him, and I come back to them sometimes. Pearls and whatnot.

I am here because, knowing Sawano, I’m pretty sure I’ll like a song here and there (the so called "pearls"), even though he remains extremely repetitive as a composer. Besides, I don’t remember a single rule stating I can’t express my opinion about what I think about his music, especially when I’m not condemning a single person for liking it.
As someone who has only listened two soundtracks he has worked on (Attack on Titan and Xenoblade Chronicles X), and word of mouth about Sawano, I feared some of the music in XenobladeX would sound too similar to Attack on Titan. So far… I like what I’ve heard from X. Some tracks sound COMPLETELY different than what I’d expect from AoT. But there have also been a few songs with similarities. Only one or two though. Even then, it isn’t copy and paste, but something I say I could see in AoT or XBCX. Basically, I’m happy with what I’ve heard so far, and only a bit sounds similar to me.

Yeah that’s kind of what I hate about Sawano fanboys. I’m talking about the ones that will just try to jump down your throat for stating an objective opinion about him with barely any argument/points than what you just said. Of course I’m not generalizing ALL of his fans as some of them, myself included, have the sense to realize he is indeed flawed. Apparently this soundtrack was composed way back in 2012 so I can understand the AOT vibe coming from it.
For me personally Hiroyuki just feels that much needed Japanese "over the top" niche for me. There really aren’t to many composers like him in his country which sort of sets him apart in a league of his own (though it’s pretty damn obvious he’s had western "Hollywood" influence in some of his recent stuff). I do admit he’s been going on auto pilot as of late with his recent success but I still always enjoy giving his new stuff a listen. I’ just sort of turn my brain off and allow myself to get immersed in the craziness ^_^. Still whenever I hear him putting random static noises to try to be "artsy" or some shit in his work I quickly remember why I sometimes can’t stand him =/.
By the way according to CDjapan my package should be here by Wednesday but it’s likely someone from japan will get it on Tuesday. Still I’ll upload it if there isn’t any loseless or scans available.
Thanks LeatherHead. I agree with your thought on Sawano. Though I guess I don’t mind the static noises too much. And I don’t really like rap. At least I thought. I actually like the raps in XBCX. I’m just used to rap being "helicopter music" with the same beat repeating over and over talking about drugs, sex, and money. I can’t stand music like that. The lyrics are cheesy as hell though, but I can’t help but not mind! xD

I’m the exact same way when it comes to rap, but I have to assert that Hiroyuki-san infusing rap with his musical style is the absolute bomb. As such, the battle theme for "X" stands out as one of my favorite tracks so far. A rock-techno hybrid that perhaps reminisces on Linkin Park’s older works, as I’ve others described outside of FFS, and lyrics that accentuate a literal interpretation of mankind’s survival against forces beyond their knowledge. I love it and can’t wait for the full version. David Whitaker is masterful at his craft with his voice flowing through and between the dynamic beat. I seriously hope he does a collaborative album with Sawano in the future.
Only thing that boggles the mind is the constant mention of "tar". In the game’s term, what is tar supposed to be? Is it symbolic of something, perhaps the darkness of the heart or blackened blood?
I can see what you’re trying to say. However, it’s difficult to do that once you’ve listened to way too many soundtracks by the same composer and he has established a style to the point where it seems like everything sounds the same (especially after Unicorn, when he decided to compose as many vocal tracks as possible). It’s like he’s on auto pilot mode…Still, I’m digging some of the ambient tracks, even if nearly all of them have that typical "buildup" Sawano seems to be so proud of.
I wish I would of known about Sawano sooner. I’ve only ever watch Attack on Titan and a few episode of Kill la Kill and I did enjoy the atmosphere that he brought but I had no idea he was composing the game till about when the demo tracks dropped. I do feel like some of his tracks are kinda "eh" but for the most part I’m still excited for this Soundtrack to drop.
Never heard Sawano’s work until XBX, and the first thing that become to mind was Mobile Suit Gundam music. I think that was the director intention, after all he is a big fan of Mobile Suit Gundam and Sawano, even an in game group is called "unicorn" =P
Eastern time?
mp3 rips are already starting to pop up in some places. The real question is flac…
Edit: or another lossless format for the matter.

Thank you for sharing the leaked link, Mew3! You are the man!
Maybe I’m lucky and someone rip on WAV format *wink* *wink*

FLAC to WAV is incredibly simple, as both are lossless, so you’ll just basically double your file size so that it’ll work with your receiver.
Finallly done. 🙂

Thanks so much, especially for the Romaji tags! Though I still wish there were better names for them. Things like Z15 Field still sound weird! xP
… wait, should I even say this here or on the new thread? lol
