I would like to share some of my Silent Movie Scores.
Sound-Quality may be variant, because the source for the scores are different (DVD-Rips, TV-Rips, YT-Rips etc…)
Anyway…enjoy … and feel free to add scores from your own collection.

pw: silentscore
more to come…
Scoreboss made my Easter, my Year truly great!
As I remember we had discuss(es) on this kind of thread months or years ago.
Thank You so much my friend not to forget it!
And of course sharing the first two rare and unique scores of great silent-movie masterpieces (dir.by D.W.Griffith and Rex Ingram).
God Bless You scoreboss!
Waiting for the scores to come (never give it up!) and Happy Easter!
Cheers:szucsy (a score & SM-fan)
Thank You so much my friend not to forget it!
I remember, of course… 😉
Added: ‘Our Hospitality’
[dir. and starr. Buster Keaton, 1923]
Thanks for the new one!
szucsy
Was there a home video release of Davis’ "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse"?
(an 1923 romantic comedy starring Harold Lloyd with the famous "Clock-scene")
szucsy
1925 The Eagle / The Strongman
(The Big Parade / The Flesh & the Devil)
So-o-o many thanks scoreboss!
Isn’ it strange:just yesterday I was thinking about downloading through torrent the Blu-Ray release [The original 150 min. version] of King Vidor’s WWI-epic ‘The Big Parade’ (1925)?Unfortunately I failed (yet) ’cause no one seeded it 🙁
Well at least the C.D.’s score I can get 🙂
Cheers, szucsy
1927 Napoleon / 5 hour version
Sound quality is not the best, source was an avi-file of the movie I found some years ago in the net, but better than nothing to get the chance for listening to the more complete music…
yes…
1927 Napoleon / 5 hour version
Sound quality is not the best
Otherwise known as The Battle of Wobbleoo. Excruciating, but appreciated nonetheless.
14 track (52:34) version still has live link at http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/napoleon-1927-soundtrack-carl-davis-1980-a-91043/#post1706255 .
Thanks to scoreboss and tosheii.
Please take a look at first post 😉
Thanks to scoreboss and tosheii.
Thanks for the heads up, but I’ve already got that one.
But the Carl Davis score (imho) blows away the Coppola version! I have been enjoying this for days now, and so WANT to see the new footage that has been added to Gance’s film.
But so many fingers in this pie, have muddied up the rights as to who owns what, where what will be shown, ectera, ectera, ad infinitum…….
Damn suits and contracts….
This film demands to be shown, just like Metropolis was, with more added….but sadly, we may never see that here in the USA because of all the legal crap!
I just wanted to let you know, again just how much that I appreciate that you have put these up!
Have you ever heard about any performance/concert/release of Carl Davis score for Erich von Stroheim’s SM-masterpiece "GREED" (1924)?
It is mentioned on SoundtrackCollector as ‘New Score 1986’ and Robert Israel as ‘Reconstruction 1999’ too.
Thanks,
szucsy

mmhh… what do I have…
a 73 minutes compilation of the Carl Davis Score (I think I found this here in the forum years ago…)
a 130 minutes version of the Carl Davis Score ripped from TV
and…: a 228 minutes version of the Robert Isael Score taken from an avi source…
it’s your choice… 😉
Although that’s not a Carl Davis score I’m deeply interested as well.
I have the restored (239 min., partly painted with stills) movie just without any music 🙁
Thanks in advance!
szucsy
I loved the film Safety Last! and now I can enjoy the soundtrack at home. 😀
There’s a page of score samples, including two from Greed, at his website Robert Israel Music (http://www.robertisraelmusic.com/#!concerts/cnnz) .
Thanks for your works scoreboss! This thread is a real new path among scores for a bunch of quasi-forgotten movies!

I’d be interested in whichever Carl Davis version has the superior sound quality.
Btw, do you kow if the firsts Doctor Mabuse by Fritz Lang, had scores (and, by any chance, do you have them please?)
I’m little bit confused on one of the most famous Silent-Era ‘score’ "INTOLERANCE" (1916) – written by Joseph Carl Breil (complete?) and/or Carl Davis (the restored version, available in the Net, 22 tracks).
Do You have any infos about a possible and available ‘Complete or Extended/Expanded Score/Music’ [no matter which composer it is]?
Thanks for the answer in advance,
szucsy

1. the infos about the scores of ‘INTOLERANCE’
2. for Your great work on the new Carl Davis scores (as well)!
BTW, for the SM-fans too:the correct title of ‘Old Heidelberg’ -as it’s mentioned – is "THE STUDENT PRINCE OF OLD HEIDELBERG".The latter one is from 1927 – as mentioned too – and a Ramon Novarro-movie, the former is a 50 min. feature from 1915 collaborating E.v.Stroheim and D.W.Griffith credited in the crew. Both movies were re-arranged, composed and conducted – after reconstruction – by Carl Davis.

I don’t find anything about a score by Carl Davis to the 1915 movie, no infos on his web-site (http://www.carldaviscollection.com/silent-films.php)
If you refer to soundtrackcollector (http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/28144/Old+Heidelberg) – this is wrong, because the listed cd contains music from the 1927 movie

Dear My friend scoreboss,
first of all thanks for sharing Carl Davis’ ‘GREED’ and the whole isolated score of ‘Dr.MABUSE, DER SPIELER I-II.’ (aka the new uploaded ones)!
Return to ‘OLD HEIDELBERG’:you are goddamn’ right!I don’t remember where the hell I could get the info about the 1915 version (the score-line) – definitely ‘Soundtrackcollector’, but may not from IMDB.As I suppose, I heard it informally or read in my University years in the middle of 90’s, specially in 1995 when the world celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Cinema and I was obsessively in the Silent Era-classics that time.
Anyway, thanks for the correction!
szucsy
PS.: 1. I prefer/love the orchestral (or mixed) scores than the simple piano works. But the latter ones were in practice that time.I saw/heard some of them (‘ORPHANS OF THE STORM’ [1921] etc.) with live piano in ’95 in Budapest, Hungary.
2. Somehow I see that the favourite SM-score is still ‘NAPOLON’ (1927) versions.I think the greatest thing of the SM-scores of Carl Davis is that he opened the doors of the other classics of an unforgettable era with kinds of variations.
Salute him for that!!!

Great! Many thanks for this one! 😉
Not to forget the phenomenal Harold Lloyd in ‘Speedy’.
And – of course – all respect to Carl Davis and You.
Many thanks again ScoreBoss!
Amazing !!! Thanks
Nor surprisingly, Mikls Rzsa once said in an interview that Coppola was "a terrible composer", with direct reference to his Napoleon score. He also mentioned Carl Davis indirectly ("a better composer in England"), but maintained that Arthur Honegger’s original score was by far the best.
I noticed now, that in 2011 Mr. Charles Chaplin’s Original Version of THE GOLD RUSH (1925) was released on Blu-Ray within the CRITERION-Collection
which contains Chaplin’s own score of 1942 adapted by Timothy Brock in 2007 for the movie-restoration.
Here you go now – listen to this wonderfull score in complete, expanded form – without the Narration of the shortened 1942 Version (Link on page 1)

Arthur Honegger’s original score was by far the best.
But it seems, that there exists no complete movie-version with his score, right?
Charles Chaplin: The Mutuals – All 12 shorties with new scores by Carl Davis
Chaplin at Essanay – 9 short movies with new scores composed by Robert Israel in 1999
I don’t have ripped the other 7 scores by Eric James – they are piano solo only…
Great from you to keep this thread alive!
I recently found a copy of the 1929 movie A GODLESS GIRL with the Carl-Davis-Score
Enjoy!
I’ve got a request: does anybody have the Carl Davis score to "The Phantom of the Opera"? It’s one of my favorites from his.
Also, several of the RCA "100 Years of Film Music" CDs I upladed are silent film scores (original or re-scored):
Im Kampf mit dem Berge (In Sturm und Eis): A Silent Film Score by Paul Hindemith – Thread 210588
