Would it be possible to do:
James Pond 2: Operation Robocod (Amiga)?
Looking forward to see what kind of awesome stuff people will request in this thread 🙂
3 games scored by Ron Klaren, that all use a similar "chiptune" style. The Plague is one of favorite soundtracks on the system.
Battle Squadron (Amiga)
Cyberblast (Amiga)
The Plague (Amiga)
The Faery Tale Adventure (Amiga) – A really early Amiga RPG soundtrack from 1986. The sound design is obviously not quite as impressive as some of the later stuff, but there are some really pleasant melodies.
Turrican (Amiga) – Scored by Chris Huelsbeck, the first of the original trilogy and a true Amiga classic.
Masterblazer (Amiga) – Another Huelsbeck soundtrack and the sequel to the LucasArts classic Ballblazer.
The Oath (Amiga) – Shoot’em Up soundtrack by Rudi Stember
Shadow of The Beast (Amiga) – I’ve never been a huge fan of this game, but the music (by David Whittaker) is absolutely fantastic.
Lemmings (Amiga) – The original version of this game, most of the tracks are covers of public domain songs.
– Franko: The Crazy Revenge (AMIGA)
– Street Hassle (AMIGA)
For those new to C64 music: I put together an album with 10 songs from these soundtracks. This should give you a pretty good overview of what this system has to offer.
An Introduction to Commodore 64 Music (https://mega.co.nz/#!CVYwlYSS!_RJJgtNPFKU1EJUKllqVhPP5X0W2YlY4JcA9DkO 1C_c)
Monty on the Run (C64)
Ghosts’n Goblins (C64)
The Great Giana Sisters (C64)
The Last Ninja (C64)
Last Ninja 2 (C64)
Street Surfer (C64)
Wizball (C64)
Cybernoid II (C64)
Flimbo’s Quest (C64)
Gauntlet III (C64)
Turrican (C64) – This is a really weird soundtrack in terms of how it was put together. Two tracks are (partial) covers of Vince DiCola’s Transformers soundtrack. I guess back then nobody really cared. There is also a track originally found in X-Out. The music is absolutely fantastic though.
Turrican 2 (C64) – A techno-y soundtrack (mostly) by Markus Siebold. The music is more consistent than the first game and also really good.
Turrican 3 (C64) – Turrican 3 was never officially released on the C64. In 2004 fans of the series tried to change that by creating their own version. The game is not based on the official Turrican 3/Mega Turrican, and feels more like a new game in the spirit of Turrican 2. The music is pretty good for the most part, and also includes a bunch of remixes of the Amiga soundtracks. I don’t like the butchered version of "The Desert Rocks" though.
You may have noticed, that the C64 soundtracks I have posted so far are all recordings from original hardware. This is what I prefer, as the C64 sound hardware is notoriously difficult to emulate correctly. But this also means you’ll have to accept the fact that there will be some noise and artifacts in these recordings. If you prefer to have a clean (but less authentic and accurate) version, then please let me know in your request. I can also provide soundtracks created via SID emulation.
Ha! I was just going to post that you had requested the Amiga version of this in my thread! 🙂
I figured that now that we have a dedicated Amiga thread I might as well request it here.
I have an idea: you could focus your thread on console games and move your computer releases to this one. What do you think?
Well you are in luck then, because…
Turrican 2 (Amiga) – This Chris Huelsbeck score probably doesn’t require a lot of introduction. One of the best soundtracks on the Amiga.
James Pond 2: Robocod (Amiga) – There are actually 3 different Amiga releases of this game that are all included here: the original, AGA, and CD32 (CD Audio) versions.
Franko: The Crazy Revenge (Amiga) – A brawler with lots of gore and some "interesting" ideas, e.g. once the boss is defeated, you get to pee on him. The game looks pretty bad though, fortunately there was a way to extract the music files without having to play through this mess 🙂
Steet Hassle (Amiga) – No such luck here, I had to play through the whole game to get all the music. WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Thank god it has built-in cheats and is only about 15 minutes long. The main character is a bodybuilder fighting hordes of grannies, gorillas, and assorted members of the New York Knicks.
Parasol Stars (Amiga) – A pretty faithful conversion of the PC Engine original, although it is missing a few tracks.
Cynthia (X68000) SC-55 Version – Obscure doujin shmup with a pretty good MIDI soundtrack. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any information on the composer.
Napo.sun Compilation (X68000) OPM/MSM – This a collection of all the tunes by Japanese musician Napo.sun. While this is not technically game music, it is certainly up there with the best that this system has to offer. Highly recommended for fans of X68000 FM music.
I have an idea: you could focus your thread on console games and move your computer releases to this one. What do you think?
That’s what I was planning on doing; any Amiga/ C64 requests that come my way, I’ll direct over to this thread. And I’ll handle the FM side of the X68000, PC-98, etc, while nx666 does the midi versions since he has the actual modules.
Does that sound good to you, nx666? Also, if you want to download/ transfer anything from my Amiga section to this thread, be my guest! 🙂

Sounds good to me. If I have something that might be relevant to the other thread then I will continue to post it there as well (like the two X68000 soundtracks today).
Do you have any outstanding Amiga requests right now?
Yeah, good job at reading the OP! Besides the 3 request limit it also says that I’m not taking requests for arcade games. And X68000 non-MIDI rips should also be requested in the other thread 🙂
But for this one I’ll make an exception. I actually made a rip of Dragon Unit when I did the other Seta games, I just never got around to posting it here. Here is Rezon as well, and I’ll add Acrobat Mission to my list. But please take future Arcade requests to Ruiner’s thread.
Rezon (Arcade) – A shmup with visuals inspired by R-Type. The music consists of short, looped, low-quality samples and can get extremely grating after a while. This seems to be a problem shared by many games with the X1-010 sound chip.
Dragon Unit (Arcade) – Another victim of the X1-010 curse. If you like hair metal played over a phone line, then this will be right up your alley. It’s a bit of a shame, the compositions are actually pretty good.
:changspew:
Amberstar (Amiga) – This RPG sounds like Renaissance music played on a synthesizer.
Astaroth (Amiga) – Action game with music in Hippel’s familiar chiptune-style. The soundtrack is probably the best thing about the game.
Ninja Remix (Amiga) – This is the Amiga version of the first Last Ninja game. Jochen Hippel remixes of Ben Daglish music? That is bound to be good!
Rings of Medusa (Amiga) and The Return of Medusa (Amiga) – Two interesting games that mix RPG, strategy, and business sim elements.
And some other random stuff:
Paradroid ’90 (Amiga) – The original on C64 was one of my favorite games growing up. This one is equally good and the music sounds like something that robots would probably enjoy.
Virocop (Amiga) – A spiritual successor to the Paradroid series, stylistically the soundtrack is all over the place: some jazz, funk, and lots of electronic music.
Rod-Land (Amiga) – A port of Jaleco’s arcade game. Lot’s of bouncy tunes, I actually like the arrangements here a bit better.
This is going to be the last update for this week, I will be away from the Internet until Monday.
Project: Firestart – C64
I remember this game from way back in the day. I’m curious about it for nostalgia purposes. If you can do it, that would be super awesome!
And great start on this thread man! So glad to see it up & running! Thanks so much for posting! 🙂

I may not like the Amiga or C64, since most of the software and games were made by the Non Japanese, but the music they made for their games is good.

I agree- I love the X1-010 sound chip created by SETA, but the problem is that it is bound by short looped intervals. Allumer, one of the companies that used that chip as well as Sammy and Athena seemed to fix that problem in the later years of the chip’s manufacture, such as the case in 1993’s Mad Shark, and with Daioh and J.J. Squawkers also from that same year. The very last game that ever used that chip was a deer hunting game from 2000 made by Sammy.
I do have 3 requests that use that X1-010 chip (allowed max):
1: Downtown (also known as Mokugeki) from Seta in 1989
2: Mobile Suit Gundam (Developed by Allumer for Banpresto) 1993
3: Mobile Suit Gundam EX REVUE (Developed by Allumer for Banpresto) 1994
If you can do these when you have the time, I appreciate it. Good luck! 😀

Arcade requests are done at ruiner9’s HIGH QUALITY Soundtrack-a-Ganza feat. PixelTunes Radio Game Music Podcast topic on this site.
I am sorry, but I am NOT going to request soundtracks from him. I was cruel to him and so therefore he is cruel to me just because I am considered by the gamers here to be an "ASS".

Whoops – forgot to mention – please use original SC-55, if that is best for the sound. I assume you’re posting everything mp3 format, unless it’s MIDI or otherwise requested or stated.
Sorry! Thanks if you can! Appreciate the thread!!!

Interesting facts and requests!
Anyway, here are my requests that couldn’t be ripped by ruiner9. If you can rip these, nx666, I wish you the best of luck:
Kaneko’s Jackie Chan fighting games
The Rapid Angel (developed by Techno Soleil)
Ridgegear Guybrave II (developed by Avit and published by Axela)
I’m also seeking good taggers that can tag some untagged soundtracks people found.
1. Spaceola
2. Oxyd
You would make me really happy!! 🙂
Acrobat Mission (Arcade) – Shmup by Taito. After listening to both soundtracks, I actually like the SNES version a bit better.
Project Firestart (C64) – A very good game and some sort of precursor to the survival horror genre: this is pretty much Dead Space in 2D. There isn’t any music outside of the (fairly unspectacular) intro tune though.
Jeroen Tel worked on quite a few C64 ports of Sega arcade games. While these games were usually pretty bad, the music is awesome! Most of these soundtracks have a few original songs not found in the arcade versions.
Afterburner (C64) – Not a very good game as you probably can imagine. The soundtrack includes remixes of After Burner and Super Stripe.
Golden Axe (C64) – This one has my favorite version of the Wilderness theme.
Hot Rod (C64) – One of the lesser known Sega arcade titles with a fairly unremarkable soundtrack (for a Sega game). The best tracks are the two intro tunes exclusive to this version.
Super Monaco Grand Prix (C64) – Only two songs here, both are covers of the arcade version.
Turbo Outrun (C64) – This is one of my favorite 8-bit soundtracks. Not only does it include awesome C64 remixes of the arcade music, it also has two new hip hop songs (one is a cover of Magical Sound Shower) that make heavy use of samples. And all the in-game music is played on 2 sound channels only!

You don’t need to worry about MIDI when requesting C64 music. Although there are MIDI expansions for the C64, I’m not aware of any games that make use of them. And yes, everything I post is MP3, even the MIDI soundtracks are recorded in that format.
Anyway, here are my requests that couldn’t be ripped by ruiner9. If you can rip these, nx666, I wish you the best of luck:

You are welcome, dude. 😀
Lethal Xcess (Atari ST) – The sequel to Wings of Death and one of the few ST games that use the STe enhancements, so you get to hear PSG music with PCM drums. This is another Jochen Hippel soundtrack which means it’s pretty good.
Obsession (Atari ST) – Another way to use the STe: tracker music. The soundtrack of this game is pretty much identical to the Amiga version. It’s a pinball game with a number of differently themed tables.
The next four soundtracks are all composed by J???rgen Piscol and feature only one song. Another example of PCM music played on the regular ST.
MIDI Maze II (Atari ST)
Oxyd (Atari ST)
Oxyd II (Atari ST)
Spacola (Atari ST)
And finally, one more arcade game by Seta:
DownTown (Arcade) – More X1-010 music by Goblin Sound. Some good compositions marred by the use of lo-fi samples. A couple of songs feature what sounds like a 56K modem…
– Battle Shark (Arcade)
– Strike Gunner S.T.G. (Arcade)
– Vandyke (Arcade)
Again, apologies for posting these here instead of ruiner’s thread. Also, you don’t have to worry about the Sharp X68000 of Ys; ruiner already did that.
Anyways, thanks again for posting these rare VGM treasures. 🙂
What about arcade titles that Ed couldn’t do, is it ok to ask if you can do smth?
That’s ok, as long as you ask in the other thread first 🙂
Just keep in mind that these soundtracks will require more time than the other stuff, and there is also a pretty big chance that I can’t do them either.
Could you record first Cybernoid so it would complement sequel you’ve got here?
The Adventures of Quik and Silva (Amiga) – Probably the first game ever to star Mario AND Sonic (along with various other video game characters). The other notable thing here is the music by Chris Huelsbeck that sounds like something straight out of Turrican 2.
Mobile Suit Gundam (Arcade) – Another X1-010 game. Although the rom size used for the samples is about the same as with the other games, the sound quality is much better here.
Pablo and the Gold of Montezuma (Atari ST) – A rather obscure Boulder Dash clone with Jochen Hippel music. It’s one of his earlier soundtracks without any PCM trickery. Nevertheless, it’s as awesome as the rest of his music.
Dugger (Atari ST) – More clones, this time the victim is Dig Dug. Another early Hippel soundtrack.
Quiz Master (Atari ST) – More Jochen Hippel. There is only one track here but it is really good.
Cybernoid (C64) – This is mandatory listening for any fan of C64 music, or video game music in general. Like its sequel, this was composed by Jeroen Tel.
Eliminator (C64) – One of my favorite 8bit soundtracks. Especially the 7-minute in-game track. Jeroen Tel did a few C64 soundtracks in this style that’s somewhere between Funk and Acid Jazz.
RoboCop (C64) – This soundtrack is mostly known for the iconic main theme by Jonathan Dunn which later also appeared in the Gameboy version of this game (and even made it into a commercial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpWeMWbKBIk)).
Tetris (C64) – You think Tetris music is 30-second loops of Russian folk music? Then listen to this: a 25-minute (!) track that builds and builds into a brooding, hypnotic inferno.
Torvak the Warrior (Amiga) – A Matt Furniss soundtrack. The game plays like a bad version of Rastan.
Kult (Amiga) – A very unique track by St???phane Picq. His music always feels very organic, incorporating "instruments" like wind or breathing noises. Some tracks of the Metroid Prime soundtrack remind me a little bit of this.
Legend of Faerghail (Amiga) – A beautiful guitar piece, the only music in a fairly obscure Amiga rpg.
Magicland Dizzy (Amiga) – Maybe the best of all the Dizzy games. The music of the Amiga version is by Matt Simmonds.
5th Gear (Atari ST) – More Jochen Hippel. The ending tune has been stuck in my head all day.
Battle Shark (Arcade) – A Taito cross hair shooter with pretty good music by Zuntata. The mission theme sounds like a military version of the Zelda overworld music.
Samurai Aces / Sengoku Ace (Arcade) – Apparently, this was Psikyo’s very first game. Can anybody with access to the OST confirm my tags? All these different endings are very confusing.
I also updated the OP with an Introduction to Amiga Music album (https://mega.co.nz/#!eRQXib4Q!vFOCIJJxI4l5Zac1UnJDKleIb8pNyEp1orm8PT1 BIWI), similar to the one I had done for the C64. If you are new to Amiga music, this would be a pretty good starting point.
* Great Giana Sisters
* Pinball Dreams
* Project X
* Worms
Underground (C64) – Similar to Boulder Dash. I really like the in-game music: such a pleasant tune.
Logan (C64) – The title track is a cover of the theme of a German TV series scored by Klaus Doldinger (Das Boot, Neverending Story, etc.)
Adrenalin (C64) – A Galaga-inspired shmup, featuring great upbeat tunes.
Amyloid (C64) – I’m pretty sure this never actually existed as a game, although the track names suggest that this music was made for one. This is one of the earlier Maniacs of Noise releases.
Rolling Ronny (C64) – A platformer featuring a clown on roller skates and a funky soundtrack.
CJ’s Elephant Antics (C64) – Another platformer with bouncy music.
DNA Warrior (C64) – Some great "demo-sceney" music in a pretty forgettable shmup.
Puzzlenoid (C64) – Great little puzzle game.
Tales of Boon (C64) – A game similar to Hawkeye (which I also need to post at some point), but nowhere near as good.
And some requests:
The Great Giana Sisters (Amiga) – Somewhat lackluster conversion of the C64 soundtrack. I like the original a lot better.
Pinball Dreams (Amiga) – Before DICE created Battlefield, they were a small demo group called Digital Illusions and made pinball games for the Amiga. This is the first of this series and the music is pretty good.
Vandyke (Arcade) – aka "the game with the sound test from hell" where songs are played at random. Getting the elusive last tune felt like finally getting that ultra rare drop in an rpg after hours of grinding. Seriously, what the hell.
Mobile Suit Gundam EX Revue (Arcade) – The sequel to the Mobile Suit Gundam game I posted earlier. This one has some weird panning where (almost) all of the music is played on the left channel. I don’t know if this is due to a very specific speaker setup on the arcade machine, but it is fixed for this release. I created tags based on Youtube videos, but still ended up with a few extra tracks. If anybody has correct tags for this game then please let me know.
Metamoqester (Arcade) – Another troublemaker. MAME plays the music way to loud, which causes clipping even on the lowest setting (-32db). So I had to convert the music to VGM first and then create a soundtrack based on that. Sounds a little bit like Capcom arcade music with some nice compositions.
Can you rip:
– Green Beret (C64)
– Double Dragon II (C64)
Underground (C64) – Similar to Boulder Dash. I really like the in-game music: such a pleasant tune.

Excellent job on the X1-010 uploads. Even if the chip has its flaws, I find it to be the best arcade sound chip ever made, along with the Ensoniq ES-5505 that Taito, Seta,Visco and Sammy uses.
I’m not even sure if it is the sound chip that is flawed. There seems to be a huge difference in sound quality depending on driver and method (streaming vs. sequencing with PCM instruments). And the other limiting factor is probably ROM size, most of the earlier games only have 1MB of (uncompressed) samples. That’s not a whole lot if you are trying to stream music directly from ROM, and as a result they had to use these extremely low sample rates.
I see. So SETA/Allumer/Sammy/Athena, the users of the X1-010 chip had to work with the ROM capacity in order to get certain songs. I guess how it works is that if the ROM capacity is low, the chip can have high-quality music. But, if the ROM capacity is high, then the music will be in a very low quality. Its mostly have to do to memory size.
Jumping Jack’Son (Amiga) – Fairly atypical St???phane Picq music. The main theme is a a parody of the similarly named Rolling Stones song.
Venom Wing (Amiga) – Some nice tunes in this one that sound like demo scene music.
Wild West World (Amiga) – A very interesting soundtrack that mixes dance and western (movie) music.
Project-X (Amiga) – Some great techno tunes by (mostly) Allister Brimble.
Full Contact (Amiga) – Another Brimble soundtrack with Shadow of the Beast-inspired music.
Worms – Director’s Cut (Amiga) – The original Worms game didn’t have any music as far as I remember. This director’s cut adds at least a title theme.
Worms (CD32) – The CD32 version of Worms. It has the first appearance of the Worms Song (with lyrics) plus a few ambient tracks.
Square Resort (X68000) – This was originally requested in Ruiner’s thread. There are only 10 tracks so I included the OPM/MSM and SC-55 versions. If someone has tags or composer information for this, let me know.
I’ve also updated the Vandyke (Arcade) soundtrack with tags kindly provided by KingTengu.
Double Dragon 2 (C64) – Mostly covers the arcade version, although it is missing many tracks. This is recorded from emulation as I didn’t have recordings from original hardware.
Dominator (C64) – By Matt Gray. Very reminiscent of the Last Ninja 2 soundtrack. The loading tune is absolutely fantastic and the other songs are pretty good as well.
Tusker (C64) – More Matt Gray music in an Indiana Jones-inspired action adventure. Very epic stuff, I really like the desert level music.
Gauntlet III (Amiga) – By Tim Follin with a style similar to his Ghouls’n Ghosts music.
Ilyad (Amiga) – A soundtrack that uses lots of PSG samples by demo scener Fr???d???ric Hahn (Fred)
Mr. Nutz (Amiga) – A platformer with bouncy music by Rudi Stember. This is the same game and soundtrack as the (unreleased) Mr. Nutz 2 on Mega Drive.
North & South (Amiga) – A civil war area strategy game with action sequences based on a Belgian comic.

Commando (C64)
The Master of Magic (C64)
Battle of Britain (C64)

Sanxion (C64)
Zoids (C64)
Phantom of the Asteroid (C64)
Warhawk (C64)
Delta (C64)
IK+ (C64)
Saboteur II (C64)
Caribbean Disaster (Amiga) – A business sim with music reminiscent of the Monkey Island soundtracks.
Grand Monster Slam (Amiga) – Very epic music in this fantasy sports game.
M.U.D.S (Amiga) – Sort-of sequel to Grand Monster Slam with music in a similar style.
Gem’X (Amiga) – A puzzle game with naked anime girls and relaxing music.
Super Gem’Z (Amiga) – The (unreleased) sequel.
X-Out (Amiga) – An underwater shmup with an atmospheric soundtrack
Z-Out (Amiga) – The sequel, only the intro music was composed by Chris. The other tracks are by Rudi Stember and are really good as well. My two favorites are the stage 1 and 4 themes.
Metal Law (Amiga) – Another Huelsbeck/Stember soundtrack. I really like the stage 1 music.
He’s pretty good, especially his techno-y stuff. I’ll try to post more from him in one of the next updates.

It’s two different guys apparently. Looking at their post history it does seem like they’re both bots….
Xenon 2 (Amiga) – Based on "Megablast" by Bomb the Bass, which in turn covers part of the theme from "Assault on Precinct 13" by John Carpenter
Magic Pockets (Amiga) – "Doin’ the Do" by Betty Boo
Gods (Amiga) – "Into the Wonderful" by Nation XII
And two requests:
Pinball Illusions (Amiga) – The third game in the Pinball series with music by Olof Gustafsson. I really like the surf rock themes of the Babewatch table.
Pinball Mania (Amiga) – This was originally a DOS game by Spidersoft. It’s probably the least impressive of that series, both in terms of game play and music.
Enjoying the latest round of uploads, nx666. Sorry to bother, but was Strike Gunner S.T.G. not rippable? If not, that’s okay.
I was secretly hoping you had forgotten about this 🙂
Strike Gunner streams music at ~5800hz directly from ROM so the quality is pretty bad to begin with. On top of that, MAME plays the music incredibly loud (even on the lowest setting) which makes this sound even worse. And the VGM trick doesn’t work here either, as that format doesn’t support the X1-010 chip. The bottom line is that I could do this rip but it will sound really bad. Let me know if you want it anyway, it’s not a huge effort as there are only about 10 tracks.
What about Kaneko’s Jackie Chan fighting games?
The Jackie Chan games can’t be done as they don’t have sound tests and VGM logging by playing through the game would include all the sfx. Sorry about that.

Thanks, nx666! It’s so nice to be the downloader and not the uploader for a change 🙂
If you guys enjoy Xenon 2, stop by my thread and grab the Genesis and Game Boy versions, too. They’re all really good!
Also, my friends who host the Pixelated Audio VGM podcast (http://www.pixelatedaudio.com/) just did a great episode on pinball music, and they featured some of Gustafsson’s Pinball Illusions tracks, as well as provide some neat info on the game. It’s worth a listen!

Ah, I didn’t know about that…
Regardless, I still want Strike Gunner anyways, sound problems be darned. Also, I’d like to make two other requests (if possible)…
– Black Heart (arcade)
– US AAF Mustang (arcade)
The reason I requested these two is becaue a) the musics are awesome (and I must admit US AAF Mustang sounds better than its Genesis counterpart, Fire Mustang), and b) both are composed by HIDE-KAZ, who did wonders with the sound drive he used on the games he composed (like Task Force Harrier, the first Thunder Dragon, etc.)

Actually, I do have Black Heart and USAAF Mustang. I will upload them now. By the way, I too love Kazunori Hideya’s (HIDE-KAZ)’s work over at NMK. He left NMK in 1997 to work at Konami as a sound engineer for the Beatmania games.

Here they are, KingTengu:
Black Heart – Download – 4shared – John Doe (http://www.4shared.com/rar/gV0h1SL5ce/Black_Heart.html)
DECO32 font – Download – 4shared – John Doe (http://www.4shared.com/rar/d_z6NsHU/DECO32_font.html)
Sorry, I messed up- I’ll try again: USAAF Mustang – Download – 4shared – John Doe (http://www.4shared.com/rar/pTroYx3Oce/USAAF_Mustang.html)
Burning Rubber (Amiga) – A racing game with a mix of rock and electronic music. The intro is a cover of "I Want You" by Utah Saints.
Cannon Fodder (Amiga) – The title track with vocals is a true Amiga classic.
Slam Tilt (Amiga) – Lots of dark electronic and industrial music in this pinball game.
Logical (Amiga) – A puzzle game with music by Rudi Stember.
And finally some stuff by Charles Deenen. He was (mostly) the guy behind the sound drivers at Maniacs of Noise, while others (like Jeroen Tel) did the music. But the few soundtracks he composed himself were usually pretty good as well.
Mysterious Worlds (Amiga)
After the War (C64)
Zamzara (C64)
I also started to include emulated stereo versions of the C64 soundtracks. The plan is to update the stuff I posted earlier as well, but I don’t know yet when this will happen. Let me know if you are interested in specific soundtracks so I can make them a higher priority.
Beyond the Ice Palace (C64)
Cheap Skate (C64)
Cosmonut (C64)
Defcom (C64)
Loopz (C64)
Menace (C64)
Red Max (C64)
Speedball (C64)
Street Surfer (C64)
Super Robin Hood (C64)
I had posted some of his better known Amiga soundtracks like Shadow of the Beast, Xenon 2, and Fire and Brimstone in earlier updates already. They are all pretty good, so definitely check them out. Here is some of his earlier Amiga music, all these games were released in 1988.
Beyond the Ice Palace (Amiga) – The same great tunes as in the C64 version. You decide which one is better.
Speedball (Amiga) – This is also the same as the C64 version. The main theme is a great track.
Xenon (Amiga) – Not quite as spectacular as the sequel, but still pretty good. The style is similar to the Speedball music.
Obliterator (Amiga) – The in-game music is one of my favorite Amiga tracks. It sounds like an 80s pop hit, such a great tune.
Leatherneck (Amiga) – More 80s pop, check out the high score music.
P.S. That includes everyone else on this form!

I got three new requests for you to start the week off…
– Cyber Core (Sharp X68000)
– Daioh (Arcade)
– Pairs Love (Arcade)
Have a good week, nx666! 🙂
Nebulus 2 (Amiga) – The tough-as-nails sequel to one of my favorite C64 games. This chiptune-styled soundtrack has a couple of good songs.
Hoi (Amiga) – A rather obscure platformer with a jazz-influenced soundtrack by Ramon Braumuller, who also did the fantastic Venom Wing music. Some of this is pretty awesome, like the level 1 theme.
Sleeping Gods Lie (Amiga) – This was one of the first RPGs where you could freely walk around in 3D. There is no in-game music, but the track that plays on the title screen is really nice.
Hero Quest (Amiga) – A board game conversion, I believe. The music is by Barry Leitch.
Jaguar XJ220 (Amiga) – For a racing game this is pretty mellow music, except for "Thrash Pig" of course.
Blood Money (C64) – A shmup with music by Fredrik Segerfalk. The soundtrack is different from the Amiga version, if you are familiar with that one.
Enforcer (C64) – This is by Markus Siebold and sounds very similar to his Turrican 2 (C64 version) soundtrack.
Quedex (C64) – Another Matt Gray soundtrack. If you liked his other stuff (e.g. Last Ninja 2), then you will like this one as well.

Hey man, I’ve got some Pac-Mania action for you right here if you want to rip it or just pm me and I’ll rip it for you! 🙂
This is a pretty good soundtrack, although maybe more suited for Ruiner’s thread. But I could offer you this one instead:
Pac-Mania (Amiga) – Conversion of the arcade game by Ben Daglish.

Hi, nx666. Thank you once again for those amazing soundtracks that you’re releasing. 🙂
I got three new requests for you to start the week off…
– Cyber Core (Sharp X68000)
– Daioh (Arcade)
– Pairs Love (Arcade)
Have a good week, nx666! 🙂
The Cyber Core soundtrack is awesome. I like it much better than the PC Engine version, and the Stage 8 theme is one of my favorite X68000 songs. You can get it from here, it’s not my rip but the quality is pretty good. I have no idea where I got this from though:
Cyber Core (X68000) (https://mega.co.nz/#!zNh0kKSb!ACSrnHfbbJjyeMVCsqFr0Q1GgIrXMX6TNsCEf5N qD1s)
Ghouls’n’Ghosts (C64) – As far as I can tell, only two of the songs are actually from the arcade game, the rest are Follin originals. The sound design is pretty awesome, check out the wind and water noises in the title theme for example. But my favorite tune might actually be the one that didn’t make it into the game.
Bionic Commando (C64) – Unlike some of Follin’s other stuff, this is a pretty faithful conversion of the arcade music. There are some extra tunes, like the title theme, that are exclusive to this version though.
Bionic Commando (Amiga) – This is pretty much just the arcade score without any extras.
L.E.D. Storm (Amiga) – Another Capcom arcade conversion by Tim Follin, this is also known as Mad Gear in Japan. The soundtrack has some rockin’ tunes and is not based on the arcade game at all.
Crazy Sue (Amiga) – This game looks like a tribute to Giana Sisters with a soundtrack in a similar style. The music was created by a certain DJ Braincrack and is pretty decent.
Crazy Sue 2 (Amiga) – DJ Braincrack returns for the sequel with music that is slightly less obviously inspired by Giana Sisters, but still pretty good.
Perihelion: The Prophecy (Amiga) – This is a very interesting soundtrack from 1993 that pretty much sounds like a sc-fi movie score. Most of the tracks feature ambient music with electronic, industrial, and symphonic elements.
Daioh (Arcade) – When doing the tags I learned that this is actually sort of a prequel to Shienryu, which I played to death on the Saturn. The music fairly decent, definitely one of the better sounding games with the X1-010 chip.
Shadow of the Beast 2 (Amiga) – This was Tim Wright’s first Amiga soundtrack. While it keeps the instrumentation of the original, it also abandons the great melodies in favor of a more ambient sound.
Shadow of the Beast 3 (Amiga) – Again composed by Tim Wright, this is a much darker soundtrack with more electronic elements. The "Opening" and "Present for a Monster" tunes are my favorites.
Leander (Amiga) – More Tim Wright, this was also released on the Mega Drive as "The Legend of Galahad". It’s very similar in style to the Beast soundtracks, although it has a slightly more medieval sound to it. Check out the "Intro" and "World 1" tracks.
Wrath of the Demon (Amiga) – This is a Shadow of the Beast clone, and they actually managed to hire David Whittaker to rip off his own music. Even the samples he uses seem to be exactly the same.
Nicky Boom (Amiga) – This might actually be my favorite of all the Beast-like soundtracks. The instrumentation is quite similar but the songs here are much longer and more uptempo. This is all pretty fantastic stuff, check out the "Enchanted Forest" and "Village" tracks for example.
Nicky Boom 2 (Amiga) – The slightly disappointing sequel. All the long, developing tracks are gone in favor of shorter, looped ones. The result is somewhat repetitive and sounds not quite as inspired as the first game. It’s still pretty good in its own right though.

I got three new requests for you to start the week off…
– Pairs Love (Arcade)
Are you familiar with this game? There doesn’t seem to be any music outside of the 10 second-jingle played on the selection screen. Maybe it has an ending as well, I haven’t had a chance to confirm that. There is no sound test as the service mode in Mame doesn’t work, so I would actually have to play through the game in order to get all the music.
Crap… Ah well, forget about it, then. 😛
Anyways, I got three new requests, and this time, it doesn’t have one single arcade request!
– Drakkhen (Amiga)
– Myth (Amiga)
– X Out (C64)
The reason I requested Drakkhen is, despite having few songs, it does have a almost epic and at times unsettling quality to the tracks.
It’s another game that uses the X1 sound system, so wav-out from MAME is the only option. There are only two songs in the game, both about 7 seconds long, and the first one only plays after hitting the start button, forcing a vocal sample to play over it every time.
Ark Pandora (C64) – Three pretty good tracks, this game is probably the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Ben Daglish music.
Auf Wiedersehen Monty (C64) – This soundtrack is actually a collaboration with Rob Hubbard. The title theme is pretty rad, the rest of the music is mostly based on public domain songs.
Avenger (C64) – With its far eastern influences, this sounds a little bit like a precursor to the Last Ninja soundtrack.
Krakout (C64) – The main theme is one of my favorite pieces of 8-bit music.
Deflektor (C64) – Pretty groovy track. Here is a video of it being played live (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW2SdkXAwd0), Ben Daglish is the guy on guitar.
They Stole a Million (C64) – I played a lot of this as a kid. It’s a game about planning heists with upbeat music.
Trap (C64) – This 10-minute track wasn’t even part of the main game and only accessible via a secret demo mode.
And some requests:
Myth (Amiga) – Pretty creepy stuff.
Myth (C64) – I would have posted this eventually anyway so I might as well do it now. This was composed (mainly) by Jeroen Tel and is completely different from the Amiga version. And it’s really good!
X-Out (C64) – A great conversion of Chris Huelsbeck’s Amiga soundtrack.
Leavin’ Teramis (Amiga) – Weird game, kinda like a futuristic Gauntlet. There is a ton of unused music included here and the title theme is absolutely fantastic.
Enchanted Land (Amiga) – I’ve never been a huge fan of this game which is a fairly unique mix of platformer and rpg.
Dragonflight (Amiga) – This is arguably the best rpg soundtrack on the Amiga, even though it doesn’t sound like one for the most part.
Lethal Xcess (Amiga) – I’ve previously posted the Atari ST version of this soundtrack, which I like slightly better. This is still really good as well though.
Chambers of Shaolin (Amiga) – Fighting game with oriental music.
Ghost Battle (Amiga) – This was made by the same people as Lionheart and kinda looks like a prequel to that game. My favorite track is the level 1 theme.
5th Gear (Amiga) – Same compositions as the Atari ST version which you can also download from the OP.
Warp (Amiga) – Shmup that plays a little bit like Thunderforce 2. This is probably one of the weaker Hippel soundtracks.
Battle Valley (Amiga) – A conversion of the C64 soundtrack by Jeroen Tel.
And a request:
Drakkhen (Amiga) – A complete rip of the Amiga version doesn’t seem to exist, so I had to record the missing tracks using an emulator. I’m not sure if this qualifies as "good" music, at the very minimum it’s … interesting 🙂
I notice the OP mentions the ZX Spectrum in the first post.
I think the best way to get people to listen to Speccy music is to just download the entire .ay music archive via Project AY (World of Spectrum) (http://www.worldofspectrum.org/projectay/). It isn’t a large file at all. You’ll also need a music player, i’d recommend Micro Speccy. Be warned though, until the 128k Spectrum came along the music was limited to a single channel beeper, due to this a lot of the pre-128k stuff is dire. There are some gems though. Also an old VGM blog – www.retrovgm.wordpress.com – is worth a look (not been updated for awhile) (shameless plug :D)
Dave
You probably didn’t miss much, a lot of these games are utter trash. But listening to all these Hippel soundtracks again made me realize how good that guy really was. For me, he is easily one of the top tier composers of that time. Too bad he left the industry in 1992, what a waste of a talent.
Minor hijack….

Nice blog! The best way to get people to listen to Speccy music on this forum is … to request some soundtracks! I just haven’t gotten around to posting music for this system yet as I’m still working on my backlogs for Amiga and C64, but I’d be more than happy to fulfill any requests. The same is true for Amstrad, Atari 8-bit, and (to a lesser extend) Atari ST, there is a lot of great music for those computers as well. And yes, I’m aware of ProjectAY.
Dynamite Duke (X68000)
Lenam – Sword of Legend (X68000)
AlsharK (X68000)
– Fighting Spirit (Amiga)
– WWF WrestleMania (Arcade; hedging my bets that this is hit or miss, probably)
– Xak: The Art of Visual Stage (Sharp X68000; I’m hedging my bets that this is hit or miss, probably)
Well, have a good week, nx666. 🙂
R-Type (C64) – I think this is the best version of the R-Type soundtrack, even narrowly beating the PC Engine CD release. The somewhat lethargic arrangements of the arcade version have been replaced by faster, bass-heavy tracks that better suit the pace of the game. Also included is a fantastic original tune that plays on the title screen. All the in-game tracks are only using 2 sound channels!
Startrash (C64) – The intro music is one of the best Chris Huelsbeck tracks on the C64.
Spherical (C64) – Technically this is a conversion of the original Atari ST soundtrack, but most of the tracks have been completely reworked. Some really good compositions with a slightly medieval touch.
Circus Attractions (C64) – Maybe not the most remarkable soundtrack, unless you are dying to hear a (pretty good) 8-bit rendition of "Entrance of the Gladiators".
Rock’n Roll (C64) – This has the same great songs as the Amiga version, which was part of an earlier update.
And a few requests:
Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge (Amiga) – The music for the first game in this series was actually composed by Shaun Southern (the programmer) himself. Some of this was later remixed for the first Top Gear game on SNES.
Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 (Amiga) – The sequel with music by Barry Leitch.
Dynamite Duke (X68000) – The tags are based on the Mega Drive release. I don’t know who did the music of the X68000 version, all I could find were credits for Akira Sato who composed the arcade soundtrack.

Thanks for the past requests, nx666. Here are new requests:
Lenam – Sword of Legend (X68000)
AlsharK (X68000)
I can’t do the Lenam soundtrack. The game uses the OPMDRV driver (good), but the sound files seem to be compressed (bad), so there is no easy way to get to the music. And do you know how to get AlsharK to work? All I get is a black screen when running the System disk in XM6 Pro. But maybe that’s a problem with my copy of the game.
System Disk (Disk 1) should be in drive 0, and the Data Disk (Disk 2) should be in drive 1. I haven’t figured out the right combination to view the opening (Disk 3) yet, but this will at least get you into the game. If putting both disks 1 and 2 doesn’t work right off the bat, try putting disk 1 into 0, and then once you get to the black screen, put disk 2 into drive 1. It should auto-boot without the need for a reset. If all of this doesn’t work, PM me and I can send you a copy of my disk set.
Thanks, that seems to work. You can watch the opening with the same method, using the "Opening" and "Visual" disks.
Cheers!
OMFG :notgood:
Seems like you’re super popular Ruiner; all the spam bots want to copy you!
WWF Wrestlemania (Arcade) – This soundtrack consists mostly of short, looped snippets of licensed (?) music. I don’t know much about wrestling, so I can only assume these are the themes of the wrestlers. It would be really nice if anybody could provide proper tags for this.
Alshark (X68000) – A Tenpei Sato soundtrack with lots of nice melodies. I really like this; it’s way better than the PC98 version, but also lacking the CD arrangements that the console ports got.
Onslaught (Amiga) – This would have been a good candidate for the Shadow of the Beast special from a few days ago. Only three tracks, but they are all pretty good.
Fightin’ Spirit (Amiga) – I ended up using the CD32 soundtrack, which imo has better music than the floppy release, even though there is a lot of overlap. The sound quality is somewhat disappointing (for CD audio) in places.
Utopia (Amiga) – Some good electronic tracks by Barry Leitch.
Stir Crazy featuring Bobo (Amiga) – Bouncy music by Charles Callet in this "prison simulation".
Turbo Force
Zero Team
Knuckle Joe
Ruiner9 tried to fully rip these, but failed.
Zero Team
Knuckle Joe
Ruiner9 tried to fully rip these, but failed.
What’s wrong with Ruiner’s rips of these two games?
Hypa-Ball (C64) – Another one of my favorite C64 tunes. This feels like it fell out of a 2000s electroclash album, except it was made in 1986. There are quite a few pop/electro songs that feature extremely similar bass lines (like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hoQ0N6zJJg), or this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uco-2V4ytYQ)).
Sidewize (C64) – In terms of music this could be the sequel to Hypaball. It’s maybe not quite as inspired as the original, but still pretty good on its own.
One Step Beyond (Amiga) – The sequel to Push Over, a collaboration with Dean Evans.
Tales from Heaven (Amiga) – Being a late Amiga game from 1999, this takes full advantage of the additional RAM Amigas had at the time. In terms of sound quality this wouldn’t feel out of place on a PSX. I really like the (mostly electronic) in-game tunes by Manfred Linzner.
Xak – The Art of Visual Stage (X68000) – An upgraded version of the OPN soundtracks. Highly recommended.
Also, WWF Wrestlemania has new shiny tags, thanks to KingTengu.
Turbo Force
Zero Team
Knuckle Joe
Ruiner9 tried to fully rip these, but failed.
I don’t think Zero Team and Turbo Force can be done: Zero Team actually works in M1 but produces a lot of garbage outside of the tracks included in Ruiner’s rip. Turbo Force has a sound test, but it seems to play sound channels instead of complete tracks. It would take a long time to piece this together and the outcome would still be uncertain.
Knuckle Joe is also borked in M1, but I might be able to record the missing songs by disabling the sfx. Do you know which tracks are missing apart from the first stage BGM?
Anyways, I have only one request this time. This time, I am requesting one of the best musics that, IMO, that Maniacs of Noise made for the Amiga. Here’s a hint…
"SAVAGE!!"
Yes, I am requesting the Amiga version of Savage. I was watching a longplay on YouTube last week and was fascinated by the music from that version of the game, so this is why I am requesting this one.
In the latest version of MAME, try playing through all three games with certain sound channels turned off to play only BGM. I don’t know, it depends on what game you are playing.
In the latest version of MAME, try playing through all three games with certain sound channels turned off to play only BGM. I don’t know, it depends on what game you are playing.
Is there a version of MAME that allows you to disable individual channels? They all seem to have controls for the left/right output per speaker/sound chip only. And that’s exactly what I tried: it works for Knuckle Joe, but not for the other two games (music and sfx is played on the same chip). You could also log the sound output to VGM and then try to mute individual channels in a VGM player/editor (where this is usually supported). And another option would be to use the debugger to disable sfx, I’ve seen cheat codes that mute background music or change songs, so that is definitely possible.
But these last two options would require more time than I’m willing to commit at this point. Especially the part where I have to play through a whole game (even with cheats) doesn’t sound too appealing to be honest. If you want to help with this, we could do the following:
1) You do the playthrough with VGM logging enabled. This can be done with a version of MAME found here (http://vgmrips.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=106). Make sure every song plays as long as possible, or until it has looped twice + at least 10 seconds.
2) Send me the VGM file as is, I’ll do the rest.
We could try this with Turbo Force where the VGM method seems to work: the PCM channels 3-6 of the YM2610 are used exclusively for sfx (this is based on the first 2 levels).
Menace (Amiga) – By David Whittaker. These are the same compositions as in the C64 version.
Savage (Amiga) – So this isn’t actually a Maniacs of Noise soundtrack but pretty good nonetheless. Very intense, percussion-heavy action movie music.
Savage (C64) – This, however, is a Maniacs of Noise production, composed by Jeroen Tel. It’s completely different from the Amiga version and absolutely fantastic.
Rubicon (C64) – More great music by Jeroen Tel, this time a collaboration with Reyn Ouwehand. My two favorite pieces are the Loader and Ending tunes, but this is a good soundtrack all around.
Knuckle Joe (Arcade) – Fairly unremarkable soundtrack, even for a game from 1985.
And there is some new music as well:
Last Ninja 3 (C64) – The third Ninja game was scored by Reyn Ouwehand and has some excellent music. Check out the intro tune, for example.
Last Ninja Remix (C64) – A re-release of Last Ninja 2 with a new soundtrack also by Reyn Ouwehand. All the songs are remixes of tracks from the first two Last Ninja games.
Fruitbank (C64) – Ragtime music by Johannes Bjerregaard
Ruff’n’Tumble (Amiga) – A pretty awesome action game with an (industrial) metal soundtrack by Jason Page.
Stone Age (Amiga) – Mostly electronic music and a few nice piano tunes.
Airball (Amiga) – One of the many isometric action adventures of that time. The music is by Paul Shields.
BTW, nx666, I’m using one of your tracks in the next podcast!
BTW, nx666, I’m using one of your tracks in the next podcast!
Yeah, there’s definitely something wrong with your ears 🙂 But maybe Last Ninja Remix is more to your liking, it’s essentially just dance remixes of LN tunes (except for the intro).
Looking forward to that podcast!
Kong Strikes Back (C64) – His first(?) soundtrack for Ocean and probably not the most spectacular composition. Still somewhat significant, as it is maybe the first tune with the arpeggio effect that became one of the trademarks of European computer music.
Roland’s Ratrace (C64) – Based on a TV series. The main theme covers a single created to promote said show.
Ocean Loader (C64) – This is the music that was played in many Ocean games while the program was loading from tape. Overall, there are five different versions: only the first two were composed by Galway, the others are by Peter Clarke and Jonathan Dunn.
The Neverending Story (C64) – A text adventure based on the movie. The main theme is a cover of the Limahl song from the OST.
Yie Ar Kung Fu (C64) – This does not use any tracks from Konami’s arcade soundtrack. The main theme is an excellent cover of Magnetic Fields Part 4 by Jean Michel Jarre, one of Galway’s main musical influences.
Comic Bakery (C64) – A port of Konami’s MSX game, but the music is also completely different. The loading tune is one of Galway’s most recognizable themes.
Short Circuit (C64) – Covers a number of themes from the movie score.
Game Over (C64) – A pretty crappy game, most famous for the visible nipple on the cover artwork. This is one of the few non-licensed games he worked on during his Imagine/Ocean years.
Terra Cresta (C64) – This includes a cover of Kenji Yoshida’s great "Theme from Terra Cresta".
Parallax (C64) – The 11-minute title screen music was very heavily influenced by Jarre’s Rendez-Vous album.
Rambo: First Blood Part II (C64) – Many tunes here are covers of Jerry Goldsmith’s movie score, but this soundtrack is mostly known for the awesome loading music, a Galway original.

The Next Space and Stadium Cross are definitely doable, I’m not sure about Explosive Breaker yet, that one requires a bit more investigation.
Would you be able to help tagging these games?
Would you be able to help tagging these games?
I might. After all, I have done retagging (and reordering) work for you and ruiner, so it should be no problem. 🙂
First Samurai (Amiga) – What’s the opposite of the last ninja…? Anyway, this game has some good music with lots of pan flute action.
Second Samurai (Amiga) – The sequel with 100% less pan flute action.
Carrier Command (Amiga) – One of my favorite games from that time with a nice title theme by David Lowe. Also included is a remix on cassette that came with the game.
Midnight Resistance (C64) – A great conversion of a great arcade soundtrack by Keith Tinman.
Gerry the Germ (C64) – A game about a germ, traversing the human body. Some nice, happy tunes by Rob Hubbard.
Stadium Cross (Arcade) – Just a few really short tracks and the tags are fairly incomplete (hi KingTengu). I’m also not sure about the composer: I know Takayuki Nakamura was involved with this soundtrack, but maybe he wasn’t the only one?
The Next Space (Arcade) – A shmup by SNK with pretty good music (and pretty poor drums on a number of tracks).
I couldn’t rip Explosive Breaker (Arcade). There seems to be a bug(?) in the VGM logging of the OKIM6295 chip: the music plays fine in MAME, but in the resulting VGM file some of the instruments are inaudible. Unfortunately, that seems to be to only way to record the music without sfx.
– Nostradamus (Arcade)
– Tao Taido (Arcade)
– XX Mission (Arcade)
If there is any that can’t ripped, let me know ASAP and I’ll come up with a replacement (or two).
"Newer versions of MAME have slider controls that let you control the volume of sound effects and music individually. I just disabled the sound effects and played through the entire game while recording the sound, then using Audacity to seperate all the tracks… Although now I’ve realised that saying I ‘ripped’ it was probably the wrong way to phrase it, whoops."
He or she recorded Dead Connection, The Outfoxies, Sailor Moon arcade and various others.
If you still can’t rip Turbo Force nor Zero Team even with this method, then here are my new requests. They are all three arcade games:
Rabio Lepus (Ruiner9’s having difficulties)
Storm Blade (Same as above)
Spinal Breakers (This is to expand the Video System Support Thread)

Did you see my previous reply on this issue (post #106)? Both, Turbo Force and Zero Team, ARE rippable, and I even know how 🙂 But these methods (that require full playthroughs) are extremely tedious (even with cheats). Even worse: they require my full attention, unlike recordings from sound tests that can run in the background while I’m working on something else. Longplays of Zero Team on Youtube are 50 minutes, and that’s without the manual edits, tagging, file conversions, uploading, etc. that is also required. So that’s at least a 2 hour effort just for this one game. And I still wouldn’t know if I’m missing secret levels or endings (which might require additional playthroughs), so the result would potentially still be an incomplete rip. I’m working from home, so I can do a lot of stuff on the side, but I simply can’t afford to do rips that require my full attention for multiple hours.
Anyway, my offer from that previous post still stands. If you are willing to do the the playthrough yourself (with vgm logging turned on), I could do the rest. I would even write a quick tutorial, if necessary.
– Nostradamus (Arcade)
– Tao Taido (Arcade)
– XX Mission (Arcade)
If there is any that can’t ripped, let me know ASAP and I’ll come up with a replacement (or two).
Just had a quick look at these arcade requests, here is what is feasible and what isn’t
Nostradamus (Arcade) – yes
Tao Taido (Arcade) – no, the method discussed above would work though
XX Mission (Arcade) – no, the method discussed above would work though
Rabio Lepus (Arcade) – probably not, there is a sound test but it seems to be broken (or I’m just too dumb)
Storm Blade (Arcade) – yes
Spinal Breakers (Arcade) – yes
Hmm, when I was testing this, there were instruments missing. But maybe that was after I had disabled sound channels for other tests? Does the sound test for Rabio Lepus play any music for you?
Hm, Rabio Lepus doesn’t seem to have a service mode, so I can’t find it’s sound test.
By the way, I use the latest version of MameUI and the base sets.
By the way, I use the latest version of MameUI and the base sets.
Rabio Lepus is one of those games where you have to press F3 while holding down F2. Once in the service mode, F2 cycles through the different test screens. I’m using the latest build of MAMEUI as well.
Do you still want to do Turbo Force? Otherwise I’ll add it to my queue.
Do you still want to do Turbo Force? Otherwise I’ll add it to my queue.
Ok, I tested Rabio Lepus here and it played fine. The music starts at code 80.
You can do Turbo force, the music starts at code 20. Just note that you will find two versions of the title song, one with the "Turbo Force" exclamation and one without.
Heck, I’d like to see the results anyways, regardless of problems or not. If they still can’t be done, then I want to make these substitutes in place:
– Riding Hero (Arcade)
– Vanguard II (Arcade)
Oh, did you get my message regarding Acrobat Mission? Just wondering… 🙂
Beach Volley (Amiga) – One of the few non-licensed Ocean games. The music is by Jean Baudlot.
Yo! Joe! (Amiga) – Pretty good mix of dance beats and the "pan flute genre"
Deep Core (Amiga) – The first part of the intro is a great industrial metal track and the alternate title is pretty good as well.
Bubble Memories (Arcade) – One of the many sequels to Bubble Bobble with music by Yasuko Yamada. This is very similar to Bubble Symphony in style with a number of shared tracks.
The following five soundtracks are all by Fred Gray:
ShadowFire (C64) – Pretty awesome stuff considering this is a game from early ’85. The main theme was later covered in the jet pack level of the first Turrican game.
West Bank (C64) – A game inspired by Bank Panic with a stereotypical Old West soundtrack, including the obligatory Morricone and Joplin tunes.
Mutants (C64) – Very hypnotic.
Troll (C64) – Two catchy, upbeat tracks. I never fully understood what you are actually supposed to do in this game.
Fox Fights Back (C64) – The in-game music is just remixes of classical music, but the title theme is a great original song.
And finally, Acrobat Mission (Arcade) has updated tags and a new track that was previously missing (thanks to KingTengu).

Oh, did you get my message regarding Acrobat Mission? Just wondering… 🙂
Yes, see above 🙂
Paperboy (C64) – I never liked the arcade version of this soundtrack, but this is way better. The groovy in-game tune is one of Cooksey’s best known compositions.
Bomb Jack (C64) – Completely different from the arcade version. The title song is a great original tune, the in-game music is (once again) a Jarre cover.
Cataball (C64) – One of the few games that scrolls right to left. Pretty catchy stuff.
Great Gurianos (C64) – This is actually the C64 port of Taito’s arcade game Gladiator.
Some Amiga stuff:
Sky High Stuntman (Amiga) – Two great tracks by Allister Brimble with very obvious demo scene influences.
Snakes (Amiga) – Hein Holt is mostly known for his awesome demo music on C64. This is one of the few games he worked on, the jazzy tunes are actually quite different from his usual style.
And two requests:
Nostradamus (Arcade) – This board actually has an YM2610, but many instruments sound like they are coming straight out of a PSG chip.
Storm Blade (Arcade) – Pretty solid soundtrack, my two favorite tunes are the themes from mission 4 and 6.
Cheers.
Projectyle (Amiga) – Mix of Speedball and air hockey with a rocking soundtrack.
Stardust (Amiga) – The first entry in the Stardust series. If you like early 90s techno, then you’ll be in love with this game.
The Humans (Amiga) – Interesting mix of Lemmings and Lost Vikings with music by Barry Leitch and Ian Howe.
Traz (C64) – Great track with a pretty awesome "guitar solo" that seems to be partially based on a Huelsbeck tune from To Be On Top.
Kentilla (C64) – An epic 12-minute track by Rob Hubbard.
Armalyte (C64) – One of the best shmups on C64 with dark, brooding music by Martin Walker. Definitely not your typical chiptune, but I always liked it a lot.
Snare (C64) – More Martin Walker, very similar to Armalyte.
Atomino (C64) – Very original puzzle game, I’m always surprised that this doesn’t have a million clones on smart phones. The music is pretty awesome as well.
Spinal Breakers (Arcade) – Pretty bad cross-hair shooter where you play as a guy named Captain Waffle. The boss theme sounds kinda broken, but that’s indeed how it is in the game (or at least in MAME).
Riding Hero (Arcade) – This is missing proper track titles as I’m not man enough to sit through the 2-hour longplay I found on Youtube. The music is credited to a "Synthesize Yamada", who might be Yasumasa Yamada, but I couldn’t find anything to confirm this.

I’m not sure if I can do Vanguard II (Arcade), does this game even have any music?
There’s a 3 second jingle when you beat a level, but that’s it. AFAIK, the game has endless rounds so there’s no finale music.
There IS Stage BGM music in Vanguard II, but it’s one song only and very repetitive (listen around the 6:30 to 7:00 mark, because at around the time frame in the video, there’s several minutes of quiteness SFX wise so that you can hear the sole Stage BGM theme)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_QG7B7yp-o
Despite these shortcomings, I still want to request it anywas.
Turbo Force (Arcade) – A few really nice tunes. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the composer for this.
Super Stardust (Amiga) – Pretty similar to its prequel, another great techno soundtrack.
Kid Chaos (Amiga) – Even more techno, also pretty good.
Battle Ships (C64) – Some nice tunes by Mark Cooksey, especially the title track.
Felix (C64) – ditto
Rimrunner (C64) – Early SID "techno" by Richard Joseph.

You can get Vanguard II (Arcade) from the OP. Please let me know if you find out who the composer of this masterpiece is 🙂
Scorpion (C64) – A pretty awesome track by Marcel Donn???.
Eskimo Games (C64) – Upbeat music by Thomas Detert. Some of the tunes are covers of pop songs.
Steg the Slug (C64) – A platform game by Codemasters with music by Ashley Hogg.
Hunter’s Moon (C64) – Very interesting take on the shmup genre that was designed and coded by Martin Walker. Weirdly enough he didn’t do the music for his own game, which was composed by Matt Gray. The Thalamus games always had good music and this one is no exception.
Hysteria (C64) – A Fred Gray soundtrack.
Sly Spy: Secret Agent (C64) – A port of the Data East arcade game Secret Agent with music by Geoff Follin. As far as I can tell only the Stage 1 theme is actually based on the arcade soundtrack.
Sly Spy: Secret Agent (Amiga) – Brother Tim helped with the Amiga version, which is again a completely different soundtrack.
Zone Warrior (Amiga) – Pretty solid soundtrack by Barry Leitch.
Impossamole (Amiga) – Also scored by Barry Leitch, this is actually the final (?) part of the Monty series. Two of the tracks are remixes of the Monty on the Run soundtrack.
Arcade Classics (C64) – Great track with a sampled e-guitar by Rob Hubbard.
Skate or Die (C64) – The e-guitar returns for the title theme, which was later also used in the NES version of this game. That’s the only Hubbard tune though, the others are excessively long, boring tracks that don’t really go anywhere.
XX Mission (Arcade) – I couldn’t find a complete longplay of this, so the tags are probably incomplete.
B.C. Kid (Amiga) – This is the Factor 5 port of Bonk’s Adventure. Rudi Stember composed an (almost) completely new soundtrack that mixes Caribbean and African styles (i.e. stereotypical "caveman" game music).
Drivin’ Force (Amiga) – This game plays like a (crappy) remix of all the Super Scaler games. The rocking music is by Bj???rn Lynne.
Gem’X (C64), Grand Monster Slam (C64) – Two conversions of his Amiga soundtracks by Chris Huelsbeck.
Hollywood Poker Pro (C64) – Strip poker with 80s dance music, also by Chris Huelsbeck.
Pi.R Squared (C64) – Great original puzzle game with nice music by Jason Brooke.
Armageddon Man (C64), Dynamic Duo (C64) – Two soundtracks by David Whittaker. Armageddon Man is one of his most remixed tunes.
Steam-Heart’s (PC-9801, OPNA) – Hentai shmup with music by Takahiro Yonemura. Pretty good stuff (the music, not the game).
Yuugiri: Ningyoushi no Isan (PC-9801, OPNA) – Another hentai game, a visual novel with mellow music by Ryu Takami.
And finally, Riding Hero (Arcade) now has proper tracks titles, thanks to the hard work of KingTengu!
– Arcus Odyssey (Sharp X68000)
– Herzog (PC-88) (I requested this to ruiner before, but it turns out that, after watching some YT vids, the one ruiner released was for the Sharp X1 version. Here’s a link from YT of the title track for the game for the PC-88 version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjtHbwrK-3Q)
– Illusion City (PC-98)
Have a good week, nx666! 😀
No Second Prize (Amiga) – Racing game with a funk rock soundtrack.
The next three games all feature music by Steve Barrett.
Super Hang-On (C64) – A Sega arcade port, but the tunes used here are completely original.
Tilt (C64) – Puzzle game with a pretty cool 3D effect. The music is a conversion of the original Spectrum soundtrack.
Knightmare (C64) – Unrelated to the Konami series. I think this was based on a TV show.
Knightmare (Atari ST) – The Atari ST conversion by David Whittaker.
Shadow of the Beast (C64) – Pretty good version of this soundtrack, although a few songs are missing from the original. Conversion by Fredrik Segerfalk
James Pond 2: Codename RoboCod (C64) – By Dale Johnstone
Lemmings (C64) – A very late C64 game from 1994. This version was done by Jeroen Tel and also has a few original songs.
North & South (C64) – Pretty faithful conversion of the Amiga soundtrack. Also by Jeroen Tel.
Treasure Island Dizzy (C64) – Two pretty catchy tunes by Matt Gray. This is loosely based on David Whittaker’s Spectrum original.
Treasure Island Dizzy (Amiga) – The Amiga soundtrack by Allister Brimble with the same arrangements as the C64 version. I don’t know which one came first though.
I’ve also been updating my Masahiro Kajihara collection. Like the rest of his music, this is all pretty good stuff.
Rouge: Manatsu no Kuchibeni (PC-8801) – Awesome FM pop. I really like this soundtrack.
Princess Maker (PC-9801) – I think the sequel has slightly better music, but this is still pretty good on its own.
Virgin Dream (PC-9801) – Another life-sim, I didn’t even know this was composed by Kajihara until I saw the credits of the PC Engine version.
And two requests:
Herzog (PC-8801) – I haven’t had a chance to verify this, but I think all of these tracks are also part of the Herzog Zwei soundtrack..
Illusion City (PC-9801) – This ended up being a lot of work as I had to piece the soundtrack together from two incomplete sources. I think overall the MSX version might be slightly better.
Speaking of which, the track time for "A Streak of Lightning Through the Time" is 1:29. It’s supposed to be 4:42 like in the link I sent you when I made the request. Even though it sounds like it’s being repeated twice, there is a section near the end that isn’t repetetive. I will repost the link along with the time where the section change occurs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjtHbwrK-3Q (the part I am referencing is at 3:42 of the video)
Just thought I help you out, and thanks once again for posting this rare amazing soundtrack. You made my day, lol!! 😀

I’ll make a longer edit and put it in the next update. This sometimes happens as these recordings are done by ear and such subtle differences are occasionally lost.
Way of the Exploding Fist, The (C64) – Another fighting game with east asian-influenced music by Neil Brennan.
Fist II – The Legend Continues (C64) – The sequel, also scored by Neil Brennan. Three pretty awesome atmospheric tracks with nice melodies.
Brian Jacks’ Uchi Mata (C64) – A judo game with a catchy title tune.
Super Cars II (Amiga) – Top-down racing game with rocking music by Ian Howe and Barry Leitch.
Dojo Dan (Amiga) – Platformer with music by Allister Brimble and Matthew Simmonds. Lots of oriental influences in this one as well.
Cannon Sight (X68000) – One of the best FM rock soundtracks I’ve heard in a while, highly recommended! Sadly, I couldn’t find any information on the composer of this work of art. I’d really like to know if there are any other games he/she was working on.
Desperado 0.29d (X68000) – The version number is important as earlier releases seem to have different music. This one also has a few pretty good tracks.
Herzog (PC-8801) has been updated with a longer version of "A Streak of Lightning Through the Time", as requested by KingTengu.
Jurassic Park (Amiga) – Another Ocean movie score, this time a Dean Evans solo effort.
Hook (Amiga) – And yet another Ocean movie license. Pleasant music by Dean Evans and Keith Tinman.
The Killing Game Show (Amiga) – Industrial/techno by Ray Norrish. This was also released as Fatal Rewind on the Mega Drive/Genesis.
Sword of Legend Lenam (X68000) – Found a way to do this after all. The compositions are the same as in the MSX release. I think this is the better version of the soundtrack, although (by X68000 standards) the arrangements are kinda bland. If anybody knows who ported the music to the X68000, let me know.
Makeruna! Makendou 2 (PS1 version) – Fill-in-Cafe developed this version, which explains why it resembles the Asuka 120% fighting games.
Makeruna! Makendou Z (PC-FX title) – According to some sources, this was Fill-in-Cafe’s last game before they filed bankruptcy.
By the way, thanks for your effort nx666. ^_^

You are welcome! Do you have a working disk image of the PC-9801 release? I only have sound files for that version, but I’m not sure if they are remixes or the OST. I would need to have a look at the game, but I can’t find any videos (or disk images) online. I’ll have to pass on the other two games though: console games are somewhat out of scope for this thread – plus, I wouldn’t even know where to start with these two systems 🙂
Instead of DATAM Polystar’s last games, try ripping these:
Tatakae! Big Fighter (Nichibutsu) – Nichibutsu’s last real arcade game before going into arcade mahjong business as well as focusing on some home console titles. Ruiner9 got confused between the names of this and Tatsumi Electronics’ Big Fight: Big Trouble in the Atlantic Ocean.
Susume! Mile Smile (Fuuki) – The home of their mascot and perhaps their first real game. Ruiner9 couldn’t rip this.
Metal Force (Chime) – Both OPN and OPNA versions if they both exist.
Dark Seraphim
Early Kingdom
Xenon: Mugen no Shitai(also known as Xenon: Fantasy Body or ゼノン 夢幻の肢体)
All of the titles are PC-98 releases. Loving the PC-98 sounds in general lately (thanks ruiner lol). I had to double up on PC-98 requests in both threads… Hope you don’t mind! 🙂
– D’ (TecnoSoft – PC-88) (a Ys-type game with a sci-fi flair. Has a great mix of spooky and suspenseful tunes. Composed by Naosuke Arai) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnFN_x-nri8
– Thunder Force (TecnoSoft – PC-88) (it seems to have only two tracks, all of them being William Tell Overture ~ Finale) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiHQYB2sAUk
– Undead Line (T&E Soft – Sharp X68000) (much better sounding than the MSX version with the X68k’s sound drives.)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, nx666! 🙂
Panther (C64) – Zaxxon-type game with music by David Whittaker
Maniac Mansion (C64) – A true C64 classic, I could probably still beat this without consulting a FAQ.
Scary Monsters (C64) – Early Keith Tinman music, not scary at all.
Metal Force (PC-9801,OPN,OPNA) – The OPN and OPNA versions are actually quite different and I think the OPN music wins overall. My favorite tune is the stage 6 theme.
Undeadline Genjuuki (X68000) – Pretty good stuff. The only thing I don’t like are the super loud drums. Maybe I should try to make my own mix at some point 🙂 Tracks for a quick listen: Mold, Mucus, Forest
I can’t rip the following games:
Sword of Legend Lenam (PC-9801) – can’t find disk image
Pebble Beach no Hatou (PC-9801) – can’t find disk image
Godzilla (arcade)
Ultraman (arcade)
And by the way, the Stage 1 track of Metal Force sounds inaccurate.
Chuck Rock (Amiga) – The original by Matt Simmonds. Great rocking tune, but it gets kinda grating after a while since it’s the only music in this version of the game.
Harlequin (Amiga) – Mostly electronic music by Barry Leitch.
Illgen (C64) – Qix-like game where it seems to be impossible to even finish the first level. The music is by Stefan Hartwig.
Bobby Bearing (C64) – One happy tune by Ben Daglish.
Task III (C64) – Percussion-heavy music by Frank Endler. Pretty relentless stuff.
Dark Seraphim (PC-9801,OPN) – Action RPG with a (mostly) techno soundtrack. I couldn’t find track names and composer, if anybody has that information, please let me know.
Sky Robo / Tatakae! Big Fighter (Arcade) – Just listen to the drums and you know it’s a Nichibutsu soundtrack.

And by the way, the Stage 1 track of Metal Force sounds inaccurate.
Are you sure you are listening to the right version? The OPN and OPNA themes for stage 1 are totally different.
This must be a bug in Hoot. I’ve just uploaded a fixed version, let me know if there are other tracks affected by this. Btw, there is also a Speak Board version of this soundtrack which is basically OPNA with slightly better drums. Maybe something to consider for future requests.
Thanks, but the new rip hasn’t been uploaded. I have plenty of patience.
I just rebuilt the OP with the same update, can you try again? The new download should be 94.0 MB, slightly bigger than the old file.
Here’s my reply. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vYh6nh9yaI#t=2m32s)
BTW, I met that guy.
EDIT: Fixed.
Blastar (Amiga) – Great electronic music by Martin Iveson.
Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk (Amiga) – One of the many Dizzy games. The main theme is like 10 different songs stitched together.
Alien Breed 2 (Amiga) – Only one track in the same ambient, electronic style of the first game.
Alloyrun (C64) – Unpublished game with an awesome title tune by Jeroen Tel.
Glider Rider (C64) – Music by David Whittaker. One of the tunes was later used in the MSX port of International Karate.
Oskar (C64) – Pretty bad game with happy music.
D’ (PC-8801) – I wonder what happened to the rest of the name. An early Tec(h)nosoft game.
Early Kingdom (PC-9801) – Another game by Kure Software Koubou that I couldn’t find any composer/track title information for.
Xenon: Fantasy Body (PC-9801,OPNA) – Ambient soundtrack by Ryu Umemoto. This is the OPNA version, which sounds almost the same as the OPN music.
Godzilla (Arcade) – After I tagged this, I still had a lot of tracks left; most of them sounded like garbage and are probably not used anywhere. If you think there is something missing, let me know.
I can’t rip Thunder Force (PC-8801) due to the lack of a working disk image. There are actually two releases from ’84 and ’85. And only the second one seems to have music.
Indigo (Amiga) – Another unpublished game. The nice music is again by Mike Clarke.
Supremacy (C64) – A Jeroen Tel soundtrack. This was later released as Overlord on the NES with different music, also by Jeroen Tel.
Duotris (C64) – Two-player Tetris. I always liked the in-game music.
Katakis (C64) – Shmup coded by Manfred Trenz (the Turrican creator) with music by Chris Huelsbeck. Some dark electronic tunes mixed with (covers of) dance music. This is one of the games that is really hard to get right in an emulator due to the heavy use of SID filters.
Go Go! Mile Smile (Arcade) – This looks like a spiritual sequel to the arcade classic Anteater with music reminiscent of the old Taito platformers. The drums are pretty loud in some tracks, but I don’t know if that is a problem with MAME or the game itself.
Would it be possible to get the Amiga version of Katakis? I know it was ported over, but I’m not sure what it sounds like (if it even has music), so it might be interesting to see what it’s like!
Katakis (Amiga) – The very first Factor 5 game. The C64 version and this are actually two different games released under the same name for marketing reasons.
Back to the Future III (C64) – Nice chiptune adaptation of the movie score by Charles Deenen. Check out the ZZ Top cover in stage 2.
The Trap Door (C64) – Based on a British TV series. The main theme is a loose cover of the music of said show.
Zig Zag: Go For Gold (C64) – One of the first soundtracks with a multi-speed driver.
IO (C64) – Shmup with music by David Whittaker.
Ultraman (Arcade) – Fighting game by Banpresto, the soundtrack is partially based on the original tv series.
The Amgia soundtrack is completely different from the C64 one. I have to say that I definitely refer the C64 one!
– Time Soldiers (Arcade) (something for 1984parrothead’s ADK Support Thread once he gets to it)
– Twin Eagle II: The Rescue Mission (Arcade) (has a different feel than the first game in terms of gameplay and music. Here is what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fa08NJoUAM)
– WWF Superstars (Arcade) (ruiner already uploaded the sequel, WWF WrestleFest, on his topic, so I thought I request the first game)
Well, hope you have a great day, nx666!! 😀
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JQkW6BgUYU
Keep up the great work mate.
Very nice project, i have 3 requests :
– Robocop II / Amiga (title screen is top)
– Nitro / Amiga
– Wings / Amiga
Many thks in advance 🙂
Nitro (Amiga) – Top-down racing game with rocking tunes.
Terramex (C64) – I never got very far in this game but the music by Ben Daglish is pretty good
WWF SuperStars (Arcade) – The tags are a bit sketchy, and I also couldn’t find a composer for this game.
Red Max (C64) has been updated with a longer version of the main theme.
DJ Puff’s Volcantic Capers (C64) – One of the many Codemasters platformers from the early ’90s. Devoid of any originality (like the rest of them) but with pretty good music.
Viz (C64) – This game is something else, but see for yourself (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNQG3SELpQc). Music is by Jeroen Tel.
Twin Eagle II (Arcade) – A Seta shmup with a (hard) rock soundtrack.
Knuckle Buster (C64), Mega Apocalypse (C64), Thrust (C64) – Three more soundtracks by Rob Hubbard that are centered around a long epic main theme.
Zero Team (Arcade) – I finally managed to find sound files for this game, so here it is in all it’s glory.
Time Soldiers (Arcade) – Commando-like game with music by Yuka Watanabe. Some good tracks, my favorite is probably the World Wars theme.
Time Soldiers (Amiga) – While we are at it, here is the Amiga version by Allister Brimble, a very loose interpretation of the Arcade original.
Agony (Amiga) – Many people really like this soundtrack, but I think it’s a bit hit and miss. There are some good tracks (like the title music) but also a lot of really mediocre stuff.
OCB (Amiga) – Pretty obscure PD game, I like the title tune.
X-It (Amiga) – Interesting take on Sokoban with nice electronic music.
Little Puff in Dragonland (Amiga) – One day, the guys at Codemasters were sick of making any more Dizzy games. And so they decided to mix it up a little bit and replaced the stupid egg with a fat dragon. This is actually a pretty catchy track that suffers a bit from the lo-fi samples.
Anyways, when you have a moment, can you do Yuzo Koshiro’s awesome Bosconian X68000 soundtrack with the SC-55 module? I have the FM version ripped and love it, and from the YouTube videos I’ve seen, th MIDI version sounds amazing too.
Thanks dude!
Duel Succession
First Queen
First Queen 2
All 3 are by the developer Kure Software Koubou on the PC-98. Your rip of Dark Seraphim (PC-98) got me curious for more but there aren’t any complete OSTs/rips on the net. Hope you can work your magic!
Hyper Sports (C64) – This is the sequel to Konami’s Track and Field. The main theme is a pretty awesome adaption of Vangelis’ "Chariots of Fire" title music.
Salamander (C64), Space Harrier (C64) – Both by Mark Cooksey
Enduro Racer (C64), Solomon’s Key (C64) – Both by David Whittaker
Foundation (Amiga) – Very late (1999) CD release with pretty good orchestral music. I’ve never played this game, but it looks like it takes some inspiration from the Settlers series.
Thunder Force (PC-8801) – This is a gameplay rip. I managed to disable the sfx but my skills (and patience) didn’t allow me to get past stage 3. I’m not sure if there is any more music after that point as there don’t seem to be any videos of a full playthrough either.

I can’t believe I’m making a request! This feels weird! 😀

Don’t feel weird! You can request as many games as you want 🙂
As for the request: I looked at several disk images but none of them seem to have MIDI support. That’s no wonder, as Bosconian was released in late ’88 and actually predates the SC-55 (and GM in general) by a few years. I had a look at these videos and now I’m even more confused. Maybe there was a later fan-made version of that game with GM support? I’ve seen MIDI remixes of Bosconian before, but never (what seems to be) a fully working game with a MIDI soundtrack.
And now I feel bad for not being able to fulfill the only request you ever had 🙁

Ha! That IS weird! I’ll do a little research myself and see if I can get to the bottom of the mystery.
Super Oswald (C64) – Another JCH soundtrack, both tunes are pretty awesome and were clearly not written with the game in mind. This is also a licensed game based on a Danish tv show.
Duel Succession (PC-9801) – I’m not sure how complete this soundtrack is, the Hoot set is a bit of a mess.
Shinra Banshou (PC88) by Nobuhito Koise, 1987
Crystal Hammer (Amiga) by Karsten Obarski, 1988
Mountie Mick’s Death Ride (C64) by Ben Daglish, 1987
And I can think of about a dozen others, but I’ll hold back my urge to be that annoying guy who requests everything. 😛
Thanks so much for all you’ve done in here. It’s hard enough to find sources for video game music in general let alone the rather obscure niche of it that interests me most.
I gave it a listen and it sounds great! You mentioned it was a bit of a mess though and it got me curious. I got to "14_BGM-18" through the final track "25_BGM-32" and they were all Dark Seraphim (PC-98) tracks that you ripped previously! Now I have no clue if these are in Duel Succession at all or if Kure Software Koubou is just paying homage to one of their games, but that’s -twelve- tracks from another game on this soundtrack, pretty crazy lol.

I actually have a rip of Shinra Bansho (PC-8801,OPNA) that I just added to the OP. This was made by someone else, although I think I was also working on that game at some point. Maybe I just added a missing song or something. It’s a good soundtrack, "Super Sonic Sarring" is probably my pick of the bunch.
And I always find it funny when people consider a platform like the C64 or PC-9801 "niche". The C64, for example, is "only" the best-selling computer of the 80s and has probably more game music than any other 8 or 16 bit platform. And then there is also a huge amount of demo scene music, which was another very important aspect of these systems.

I noticed that as well – when I was halfway through ripping the Dark Seraphim tracks a second time. Both games are using the same sound driver, maybe someone just made a mistake when the Hoot set/XML file was created? There are also a few more files in the set that are not listed in the XML, but when I tried to enable them, they only produced garbage or silence. I couldn’t find any videos with gameplay footage and no disk images either, so I have no way to confirm which music is actually part of the game.
So In the end I decided to include all the (working) songs from the Hoot set and called it a day 🙂
Eggerland Mystery
Eggerland – Meikyū Shinwa
Please also continue to rip the Pebble Beach no Hatou PC-98 soundtrack whenever you have enough time and patience. Thanks. ^_^
Georg Glaxo (Amiga) – Check out the blues rock tune that plays on the title screen.
Mountie Mick’s Death Ride (C64), Cobra (C64) – Two more soundtracks by Ben Daglish.
Bee 52 (C64) – An unpublished Codemasters game. I totally love how the main theme incorporates bee buzzing as an instrument.
Arcus 2: Silent Symphony (X68000) – Another awesome Wolfteam soundtrack, arguably even better than the music from the first game.
First Queen (PC-9801) – As far as sound design goes, this is very basic, even for OPN. Also included are a few alternate versions of the songs, although they sound exactly the same to me. Feel free to delete them if you want.
– Final Zone (PC-88)
– Mid-Garts (Sharp X68000)
That’s all for now!!
– Final Zone (PC-88)
– Mid-Garts (Sharp X68000)
That’s all for now!!
Well you are in luck because I actually did those two a while back. How’s that for day one service?
Final Zone (PC-8801) – Great early Telenet soundtrack by Nobuhito Koise. I’m not sure if there are multiple versions of the PC-88 music though; there is an OST with slightly better arrangements but I don’t know where they originally came from.
Mid-Garts (X68000) – More Wolfteam goodness. There is some really good music in this one, just listen to the title track for example.
First Queen 2 (PC-9801) – A bit better than the first one, but I think this series only gets going with the 3rd game (hint hint).

I appreciate your hard work, nx666. I noticed that ruiner9 can’t rip these:
Eggerland Mystery
Eggerland – Meikyū Shinwa
For the moment I would like to limit requests to the systems listed in the OP. I also don’t know how difficult it would be to extract music from MSX games as I have zero experience with that system. Right now my only option would be to record music while doing a (complete?) playthrough of the game and that’s way too time consuming, even with the use of cheats and/or level passwords.
I have to agree with you. It’s very basic; hard to find anything likeable in there. I didn’t realize this was First Queen until I looked at the first post in the thread for a little while though; your post has it listed as Dark Queen haha!
First Queen 2 (PC-9801) – A bit better than the first one, but I think this series only gets going with the 3rd game (hint hint).
I’d like to take your hint and request First Queen 3 and First Queen 4 on PC-98! I like to see how music evolves through a series. 🙂 Thanks again!
Anyways, I have some new requests…
– Champion Wrestler (Arcade – A classic Taito wrestling game. Had some good tunes.)
– Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei (PC-88 – This is the only game in the series not made by Atlus; Telenet was responsible for this version. The game plays like a mix between Gauntlet, Ys, and Hydlide.)
– Sangokushi (Sharp X68000 – Enjoyed simming the events of the Three Kingdoms whenever I got bored, lol, as well as listening to the music this game offered.)
Once again, thanks for the quick posting, lol.
I just fixed it. That happened because I created that entry based on a copy of Dark Seraphim in my spreadsheet 🙂
First Queen 3 (PC-9801) – As promised this one has much better music than the first two games.
Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei (PC-8801) – Published by Telenet, with music by Nobuhito Koise and Shinobu Ogawa.
Champion Wrestler (Arcade) – A Taito game with music by Zuntata.
Yeah it sounds awesome! Thanks!
Chubby Gristle (ZX Spectrum) – Ben Daglish
Grell and Falla (ZX Spectrum) – Allister Brimble
Black Lamp (ZX Spectrum) – Tim Follin
Where Time Stood Still (ZX Spectrum) – Fred Gray
Magic Johnson’s Basketball (ZX Spectrum) – Alberto Jose Gonz???lez
Bulldog (C64), Firelord (C64), Bombo (C64), Footballer of the Year (C64) – More Ben Daglish goodness.
Star Paws (C64), Star Paws (ZX Spectrum) – Nice tune by Rob Hubbard, the Spectrum conversion was done by Tim Follin.
Hydrofool (ZX Spectrum) – One of only a few Rob Hubbard Spectrum soundtracks, the in-game music is one of my favorite Hubbard tunes.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms / Sangokushi (X68000) – This sounds like it was converted straight from the OPN version. Otherwise this is very pleasant stuff, much like the rest of Yoko Kanno’s work.
First Queen 4 (PC-9801) – The fourth and final game in this series.
Jesus 2 (PC-9801, OPNA) – Adventure game with pretty great music by Koichi Sugiyama.
I couldn’t record either of the Vasara games due to the lack of sound tests. They both use the ES5506 chip, so unfortunately VGM logging is not an option either.
KDSD-00022 | BLAST! – SHOOTING GAME SOUND OMNIBUS Vol.1 – VGMdb (http://vgmdb.net/album/3966)
I also noticed that Ninja Baseball Bat Man, DJ Boy and B. Rap Boys arcades haven’t been ripped yet, either. The first one had inaccurate sound issues before the latest update, but the sound test mutes after a second.
Is it possible to rip these three games?

Ninja Baseball Bat Man and DJ Boy seem to be doable, I’ll add them to my list. Ninja Baseball Bat Man sounds fine in Hoot, although I obviously haven’t heard the soundtrack in full yet.
– Arbalester (Arcade – Another game by Seta. I believe it only has one track, so I was wondering if you could also include the guitar riff credit jingle as well.)
– Gundhara (Arcade – A Banpresto release. Bears a resemblance to Out Zone and Fixeight.)
– Ring Rage (Arcade – Another Taito game that features pro wrestling after Champion Wrestler.)
Hope the week will be good for you, nx666. Have a great week!! 😀
Sokoban (ZX Spectrum) – Agent-X
Xenophobe (ZX Spectrum) – Barry Leitch
Solar Invasion (ZX Spectrum) – Tim Follin
Two requests:
DJ Boy (Arcade)
Ring Rage (Arcade)
And a bunch of other stuff:
Quik the Thunder Rabbit (Amiga) – Weird Sonic-esque platformer with survival elements.
Ruff and Reddy (Atari ST), Hong Kong Phooey (Atari ST) – Two games based on Hanna Barbera licenses with music by Sean Conran
And finally, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (X68000) now has proper tags thanks to the hard work of KingTengu.
Magic Land Dizzy (C64) – Steve Barrett always knew how to write a catchy tune, and this is no exception.
Hyber Blob (C64) – Very interesting game, one of the main inspirations for Lemmings. The music is also by Steve Barrett.
B-Bobs (C64) – A few great tracks by Thomas Detert
Tony & Friends In Kellogg’s Land (Amiga) – Promotional game developed by Factor 5 with Rudi Stember music. If you liked his Mr. Nutz soundtrack, you’ll feel right at home with this one.
Can Can Bunny 4: Premiere (X68000), Can Can Bunny 5: Extra (X68000) – Two hentai adventure games with nice music.
The Light Corridor (ZX Spectrum)
Sokoban Perfect (ZX Spectrum)
Mystical (ZX Spectrum)
Acid Killer (ZX Spectrum)
Star Madness (ZX Spectrum)
Alfred Chicken (Amiga) – A game where you run around as a rooster while listening to David Whittaker tunes. Can life get any better? Also included are the much improved tracks from the AGA version.
Monopoly Deluxe (C64) – Ragtime music by Steve Barrett.
Bubble Bobble (C64) – The version of this game I grew up with.
Diet Go Go (Arcade) – Data East game that takes a lot of inspiration from Bubble Bobble, and so does the music.
Arbalester (Arcade) – A Seta shmup. There are only two tracks and the sound quality is not all that great.
Let me know if you need the disk image, I found it in an obscure part of the web. There’s a sound test, too. 🙂
Batman: The Caped Crusader (C64) – Based on the tv series, the music is by Fred Gray.
Grand Prix Circuit (C64) – Before Don Mattrick lead Microsoft and Zynga to glory, he designed games like this. Three rocking tunes with sampled drums and guitars.
Catch’em (Amiga) – Puzzle platformer, the music is an excursion into early 90s dance music.
Cho-Jin (X68000) – This game supports a plethora of different MIDI devices. Included here is the regular OPM version as well as one that uses both OPM and SC-55. Great stuff!
War-Torn Versnag (X68000) – Ryu Umemoto worked on this game, a pretty great rpg soundtrack.
Armored Flaghip Atragon (PC-9801) – When I saw that this game was scored by Masahiro Kajihara and Ryu Umemoto, I knew I had to do it. It’s pretty awesome and one of the best-sounding OPN soundtracks to boot.
Lightning Vaccus: The Knight of Iron (X68000) – A strategy game by Masaya. Just a handful of tracks, the main theme is pretty good.
Magery (X68000) – Obscure, menu-driven rpg. Some nice tracks, one of which is a remake of Dragon Spirit’s area 1 theme for whatever reason.
Kurutta Kajitsu (X68000) – Pretty much the only thing I could find out about this game is the fact that the music is really good.
Gundhara (Arcade) – This game uses a weird setup where the right speaker is (almost) exclusively dedicated to sfx. For that reason the soundtrack is mono. Other than that, this is definitely one of the better-sounding X1-010 games.
Happy weekend!

I have a request! It’s an X68000 game called Cho-Jin. I can do the OPM version myself, but I’m really interested in hearing the MIDI versions. The game was released late in the X68000 lifecycle, so it has support for a slew of different modules. Whichever ones you can do (if they sound different enough) would be awesome!
Let me know if you need the disk image, I found it in an obscure part of the web. There’s a sound test, too. 🙂
I managed to do the OPM and OPM+SC-55 versions. There are definitely some esoteric choices in terms of supported hardware, like the dedicated MIDI devices for drums and guitar. One of the options is YM2151+CM64+SN-U110-10; there must have been a grand total of like 10 people who had that kind of setup at home back then.
Yeah, crazy, isn’t it? I guess this game was only available in certain electronics vending machines in Japan, making it a real odd duck. Thanks for the rip!
Could you possible do The Chaos Engine (Amiga)?
Thanks!
Could you possible do The Chaos Engine (Amiga)?
Thanks!
This might take a while though. The music in this game is dynamic, and there are 200+ sound snippets that I have to piece together to somehow recreate the in-game experience.
No problem. You take as long as you need
CrossFire EX (X68000) – Vertical shmup, I tried to tag it as best as I could but still don’t know who the composer is.
Awesome (Atari ST) – An awesome (!) AY port of the Amiga soundtrack.
Fantasy World Dizzy (Atari ST) – Hey look, another Dizzy game! For this one Allister Brimble had the honor to do the music.
I’m going to be away next week and probably won’t be able to work on new stuff, so if there are any requests, they might take a bit longer than usual.
We’re both going away next week? The Soundtrack-a-ganza collective is going to implode! 😀
Loving these downloads. Thanks a lot.
Lol true, I’ll still try to check in here when I can, just don’t expect to see any new soundtracks next week.
Elfmania (Amiga) – Aleksi Eeben aka Heatbeat was a fairly prolific demo musician, who did some pretty awesome (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbPJHmwJOsU) stuff (https://youtu.be/Om3f1e_Yewk?t=3949) on the Amiga. This is, as far as I know, his only game soundtrack on that system.
The Chaos Engine (Amiga) – A game with dynamic music by the late Richard Joseph. I tried to put together tracks that somewhat resemble the in-game experience. It’s a mix of techno and industrial that also includes the ambient tracks from the CD32 release.
– A-Jax
– Code-Zero
– Dive-On
I hope you had a good long week away from this board, nx666, and you have a great day!! 😀
I just had a look at this game.
The X68000 music seems to be a pretty meticulous recreation of the arcade soundtrack (which you can get from ruiner’s thread (Thread 138495)). The arcade board actually has almost identical sound hardware: YM2151 (OPM) + some sort of PCM controller. So yes, I could do this soundtrack, but I doubt it will sound any different.
Anyway, let me know if you still want it.

Thanks for the heads-up, and you can go ahead and skip it in that case. In its place, would it be possible to check out Snatcher (PC-88) and Sorcerian (PC-88?) Thanks a ton as usual!
You can get Sorcerian from here (Thread 163248)

Absolutely, I do. 😀
Ooh nice, thanks as usual!!
Code-Zero (X68000) – A shmup published by Enix. The music is pretty good (and the drums are really loud), but I couldn’t find any information on the composer.
Warm Up (C64) – Top-down racing game with funky music.
Can you rip this:
– S.P.Y. the Special Project Y (Arcade)
– Run And Gun 2 / Slam Dunk 2 (Arcade)
– Rushing Heroes (Arcade)
Run and Gun 2 (Arcade) – Konami basketball game with a soundtrack by Mutsuhiko Izumi. The music feels like a trip back to the 90s. Some of it is pretty good, I really like the rock/industrial tracks. If anybody can provide proper song titles, let me know.
Ajax (X68000) – The arcade board actually has the same FM chip but supports multiple PCM channels. As the X68000 has to make do with only one PCM channel, the samples sound a bit muffled. I ended up using a slightly cleaned-up version of the sound files, but not even that sounds quite as good as the arcade soundtrack imo.
Nemesis ’90 Kai (X68000, OPM, SC-55) – Another Konami game, another game originally composed by Motoaki Furukawa; this is a remake of Nemesis 2 (MSX). I recorded the PCM4 music, which should be a little bit better than the regular version. Also included is the SC-55 soundtrack, unlike most other GM music this one actually sounds pretty synthetic as well.
Rushing Heroes (Arcade) – If you liked the Run and Gun 2 soundtrack, then you’ll be in love with this one as well.
Dive-On (X68000) – I’m not sure if this is the whole soundtrack as there are no complete playthroughs of this game on Youtube. So this all the music I could find in the sound files, which includes some pretty decent tunes.
Ice Age (C64), G.I. Hero (C64), Nighthunter (C64), Fuzzball (C64) – Four unreleased games, I especially like the Ice Age and Nighthunter soundtracks.
RoboCop 3 (C64) – This was also released on the NES with very similar music. Unfortunately, I don’t have C64 recordings for all of the tracks, so that version of the soundtrack is somewhat incomplete. The title theme is pretty rad.
Navy Moves (C64) – Three nice tracks. Also included is an alternate version of the title theme without the sampled drums.
Dynamix (C64) – A puzzle game also known as Kinetix. The main theme is more than 12 minutes long.
Trivia Ultimate Challenge (C64) – The title theme is based on a demo song that came with the Roland D-10. Otherwise, this is pretty much the music you would expect from a trivia game.
Happy weekend!
– Batman: The Caped Crusader (Amiga) (If memory recalls me, there is only one in-game track, but I am not sure. Nevertheless, I still want to request this, lol)
– Flying Shark (Hishouzame) (Sharp X68000) (This port had the most brilliantly arranged music that the Sharp X68000 could provide.)
– Tiger Road (Arcade) (one of Capcom’s mid-80’s platform games)
Have a good weekend, nx666!! 😀
Tao Taido (Arcade) – Very interesting stuff, the music here is made solely with percussion instruments.
Tiger Road (Arcade) – Capcom arcade game with music by Harumi Fujita and Tamayo Kawamoto.
Soccer Kid (Amiga) – I seem to remember liking this game, which was also ported to a number of other systems. The music is by Matt Furniss, also included is the soundtrack of the CD32 version.
Sacred Armour of Antiriad (C64) – An early action-adventure, similar to Metroid. Also one of the first games I’ve ever beaten without cheats. The music is by Richard Joseph.

Aztec Challenge was a great and hard game, which had great music
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdvUucZF_1I
Yes, the early Paul Norman soundtracks are awesome. He was one of the first game designers to use situation-specific music. That’s common in movie scores (and today’s game music), but back then it was pretty innovative.
Btw, I had planned to post a few of the earlier C64 soundtracks from ’83/84 at some point next week. Forbidden Forest was already on my list, and I’ll add Aztec Challenge as well.
But what I am saying is that the BGM sounds slightly different when playing the game than from the gamerip.
But you don’t have to make any changes if you don’t want to.
And if you DO have the real thing, I’d recommend just recording the music yourself and releasing it to the internet so we can all compare what we’ve been listening to! 🙂
As for Metal Force, there are 3 different versions: OPN, OPNA, SpeakBoard, and (if I remember correctly) those last two are almost identical except for the drum samples. You can compare this in Hoot (which has all three), but I think in an emulator (or real PC-98) the system would only let you choose based on the actual hardware installed.
Please check which version you are actually listening to (there should be some indication in the sound test), if it is indeed the SpeakBoard option then I could add it to my rip.

Some requests:
Batman: The Caped Crusader (Amiga) – Just one track by Keith Tinman, maybe not his best effort.
Midnight Resistance (Amiga) – To compensate for this lackluster soundtrack, here is Keith Tinman’s Amiga port of Midnight Resistance.
Flying Shark (X68000) – Much improved version of the arcade soundtrack. Pretty good!
Super Wonder Boy (Amiga) – A faithful conversion of the arcade soundtrack by David Whittaker. Which is not necessarily a good thing considering the arcade board featured an SN76496. Seriously, this sounds like a Spectrum game.
Wonderboy in Monsterland (C64) – The C64 version is not much better, and is also missing a few songs.
———- Post added at 11:32 PM ———- Previous post was at 11:30 PM ———-
I would play Antriad all the time. Hard game but doable ! The title music was awesome, i enjoyed the remix version on one of those c64 arranged albums.
The funny thing is that you can actually beat the game in 10 minutes once you know what you were doing. It just takes hours to get to that point.
That’s a serious condition, you know. You really need to listen to some of the early ones like Dragon Unit, Rezon, or Meta Fox. Pretty glorious stuff.
As I said in ruiner6’s thread, I’m looking for all Wonderboy-related OSTs, so I’l ask for the soundtracks of Wonderboy for Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum.
Be prepared though. They’re not quite good.
And Twin Eagle.
WAAOOOH WAOOOH WAOOOOHH GONNA BREAK IT DOOOOO-OOOOOWWNN
Weebles (C64) – A nice tune by Richard Rinn, created for an unreleased game.
Wonderboy (C64) – Not very good. I remember playing this as a kid, and the repetitive music got annoying really fast.
I won’t be able to do the Amstrad and Spectrum versions of Wonderboy at the moment. It seems the only option is to record via emulator, but then the sfx would get in the way and there is no (easy) way to disable them.
I’m sure C64 music lovers will appreciate that. Loved that game.
Anyways, I got some new requests for you. This time, it is all about the Sharp X68000!!
– Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (a port of "River City Ransom" by SPS, the same team responsible for "Nemesis ’90 Kai".)
– Ishin no Arashi (the first in KOEI’s "Rekoeition" games.)
– Sangokushi II (the sequel to Sangokushi II/Romance of the Three Kingdoms. If it can’t be done, then replace it with the third game.)
Platoon (C64) – I think this might actually have been the first movie license Jonathan Dunn did for Ocean, with many more to follow.
Schmeiser Robo (Arcade) – Street Fighter 2 clone with big, bad robots and rocking FM tunes.

California Games, Combat School, black lamp and Skate or die had great music on the c64 😉
You can grab Skate or Die from the OP, and I’ll add the other three to my list.

Anyways, I got some new requests for you. This time, it is all about the Sharp X68000!!
– Sangokushi II (the sequel to Sangokushi II/Romance of the Three Kingdoms. If it can’t be done, then replace it with the third game.)
I can’t even find a disk image for this game. Sangokushi III can be done though.
Japanese Cult Quiz Zipang (PC-9801) – Another puzzle game with naked ladies and awesome music by Yoshio Furukawa and Hitoshi Sakimoto.
California Games (C64) – A game from Epyx’s awesome sports game series. The music is by Chris Grigg.
Combat School (C64) – Port of the Konami arcade game, also known as Boot Camp. Martin Galway did the music, a conversion of the arcade soundtrack plus a new title track from Full Metal Jacket.
That was why I mentioned in my request post that if Sangokushi II couldn’t be done, then the third game would suffice. Yes please!! 😀
Black Lamp (C64) – A Tim Follin soundtrack. This has a few additional tracks compared to the Spectrum version I posted earlier.
Agent X II: The Mad Profs Back (C64) – Another game with Follin music, one of his first soundtracks on the C64.
Tough Turf (Arcade) – A Sega game, developed by Sunsoft, the music is by Shinichi Seya. Good stuff.
And lastly, Ishin no Arashi (X68000) and Platoon (C64) have updated tags thanks to KingTengu and iwannabelikemike.
Aztec Challenge (C64) – Music by Paul Norman, the programmer of this game. He was one of the first composers to create longer tunes, that build throughout the song.
Forbidden Forest (C64) – Another Paul Norman game and maybe his magnum opus, both in terms of music and game design. This was one of the first attempts to create a movie-like experience in a game. Very creepy stuff with an awesome title theme,
Cave of the Word Wizard (C64) – An educational game that featured pretty impressive speech synthesis.
M.U.L.E. (C64) – One of my favorite games from the 80s with a pretty iconic title theme. The music was ported from the original Atari 800 version.
Boulder Dash (C64) – Another case where the programmer did the music as well. A symphony of triangle waves.
Spy vs. Spy (C64) – Pretty cool two-player game that spawned a few sequels. The groovy title theme was another early C64 hit.
Bruce Lee (C64) – Neat game with an interesting two-player mode where the second player gets to control the enemies.
Dizasterblaster (C64) – Shaun Southern is mostly known as a designer/programmer (e.g. for the Lotus series on Amiga), but he also composed the music for a few of his games.
Also, KingTengu has provided proper tags for Romance of the Three Kingdoms (X68000).
– Fighting Hawk (Arcade – A Taito shmup that uses the sound engine later used in the arcade version of "Master of Weapon".)
– Knuckle Bash (Arcade – A pro wrestling-based beat-’em-up game by Toaplan. Has some good tunes that are well-done with the late sound chip they use.)
– Teitoku no Ketsudan (Sharp X68000 – Also known as P.T.O. – Pacific Theater of Operations.)
Have a great week, nx666!! 😀
Mahou Daisakusen (X68000)
Death Brade (X68000)
A compilation of Blandia (Arcade) and its ports and prototype soundtracks. If too many, just combine the arcade and prototype soundtracks.
Unreal (Amiga) – Some great atmospheric music by Charles Deenen and Reyn Ouwehand.
Sorcer Striker / Mahou Daisakusen (X68000) – The first of all the great Raizing shmups. Despite using similar sound hardware, this is actually quite different from the arcade version.
Fourth Protocol (C64) – David Dunn is a somewhat forgotten early C64 composer who utilized the SID filters in pretty interesting ways. This is a nicely arranged piece, that is also very different from what most of his contemporaries did on the system at that time.
Escape from Paradise (C64) – Another David Dunn tune that is pretty awesome as well.
Pacific Theater of Operations / Teitoku no Ketsudan (X68000) – Another one for the ever-growing Koei collection. This one was composed by Hiroshi Miyagawa.
Yougekitai: Jashin Koumaroku (PC-9801, OPNA) – A Telenet game with music by Motoi Sakuraba & company.
Prophecy I: The Viking Child (Amiga) – Action-adventure, similar to the Wonderboy games. Barry Leitch composed the music.
Kretacz (Amiga) – Fairly unremarkable puzzle game with nice music.
Rubicon (Amiga) – Charles Deenen did the Amiga version, which has different music than the C64 original. Very atmospheric stuff.
Himitsu no Hanazono (X68000) – I think this was based on a tv series. I had listened to the PC Engine version before, but this is even better.
Fairy Tale Kaizokuban (X68000) – Some sort of adventure game by Fairytale. Their games all seem to have pretty good music and I would really like to know who composed all of this stuff.
———- Post added at 11:04 PM ———- Previous post was at 10:55 PM ———-
Here are my new requests:
Mahou Daisakusen (X68000)
This one will require a lot of time so I had to put it on the back burner for now. If you are just interested in the music (and not the X68000 version in particular) then I could upload the arcade soundtrack, which actually sounds a little bit better.
A compilation of Blandia (Arcade) and its ports and prototype soundtracks. If too many, just combine the arcade and prototype soundtracks.
The only other version I could find is the PC-98 release. There are more tracks, but the music doesn’t sound all that great either. Like a bad Adlib soundtrack, maybe it was actually ported from the elusive DOS version. Let me know if you want it anyway.
– Kyuukyoku Tiger (Sharp X68000 – Another adaptation of the arcade classic)
– Naious (Sharp X68000 – Don’t know much about this, but thought I’d request it regardless.)
– Youjuu Kikouhei WerDragon (PC-88 – Has both OPN and OPNA versions, so I want to hear what they both sound like.)
Have yourself a great weekend, nx666!! 😀
True Golf Classics: Pebble Beach Golf Links (PC-9801) – A request from a few weeks ago. This game had 3 or 4 expansions all stored in the same folder structure, so it was a tad difficult to find the right tracks for the Pebble Beach course. Mostly jazzy stuff.
———- Post added at 11:50 PM ———- Previous post was at 11:48 PM ———-
That was why I mentioned in my request post that if Sangokushi II couldn’t be done, then the third game would suffice. Yes please!! 😀
Btw, I found music files for Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 / Sangokushi 2 (X68000). Maybe keep that in mind for your next request in case you still want it.
Nice to hear! I’ll ask for it on my next request to you, but for now, I am just awaiting the ones I requested to you two days ago.
Mutant Fighter / Death Brade (X68000) – Found an easier way to do this, so here it is. Compared to the arcade version this is pretty disappointing though.
This was requested before, unfortunately there is no easy way to record the music of this game. It’s by no means impossible, but the methods that would work are all very time-consuming, which puts it in the "if I’m totally bored" category. I’ll probably give it another shot at some point, but don’t expect it anytime soon.
Naious (X68000) – Horizontal shmup scored by Hiroyuki Saegusa and Hiroshi Yamamoto, the composers behind games like Aquales, Geograph Seal, and ???toile Princesse. A pretty solid effort.
Bummer, don’t worry about it at all then, but thanks for the info 🙂
Armored Beast WerDragon (PC-8801,OPNA) – Pretty good stuff by Toshiya Yamanaka, who also worked on the Star Cruiser games and Knight Arms. I couldn’t do the OPN version, as the rip I have sounds absolutely atrocious.
– The Chaos Engine II (Amiga – Sequel to the first, but not as good, lol)
– Suikoden: Tenmei no Chikai (Sharp X68000 – Yet another KOEI game to request, lol)
Have a great weekend, nx66!! 😀
You can get the PC-88 OPNA versions from here (http://raborak.com/saladedemais/telenet-pc88-collection-vol-2).
Linking whole folders doesn’t work for me as I would lose all the meta data. And that’s something I feel is kinda important for a project like this. I asked a mod if it is possible to split the OP, the only other option I see would be to create a new thread and spread the content over the first 3-4 posts.
Actually, Romance of the 3 Kingdoms 3 was composed by Minoru Mukaiya.
I think you misread what I wrote 🙂
Today’s update is (mostly) C64 arcade conversions.
Legend of Kage (C64) – Pretty good adaptation of Hisayoshi Ogura’s arcade score by Fred Gray.
Rastan (C64) – Converted by Martin Galway. Unlike some of his other arcade ports, this is actually quite faithful to the original.
Altered Beast (C64) – By Martin Walker
Mr. Heli (C64) – Also known as Battle Chopper in the US. Charles Deenen did the music, which is pretty much just the theme of the first stage plus a new title track.
Double Dragon [Melbourne House] (C64) – This Melbourne House port was pretty bad and it’s also lacking most of the music. There is only one track, an arrangement of the first stage music by Charles Deenen.
Double Dragon [Ocean] (C64) – Another Double Dragon port for the C64, this one was published by Ocean as a cartridge-only release. A pretty good conversion of the arcade soundtrack by Barry Leitch.
Xenophobe (C64) – I’m not overly familiar with the arcade soundtrack. Going by Youtube videos this seems to be completely new music by Barry Leitch and is easily some of his best work on the C64.
Space Harrier II (C64) – By Matt Furniss. Great conversion, although it is missing many tracks from the original Mega Drive release.
Niko^2 (X68000) – More Wolfteam goodness by Motoi Sakuraba and Ryota Furuya.
Really? I thought it was done by Minoru Mukaiya.
Yes, it was done by Minoru Mukaiya, that’s how that soundtrack is tagged as well. I only said the style is similar to that of Yoko Kanno.
Evolution01, you seem to be missing the operative word here, "Wasn’t scored by Yoko Kanno." Take a look at the OP:
The credit is correct. 🙂
Ah. Sorry about that mistake.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms II / Sangokushi II (X68000)
… but if you are more of a Yoko Kanno enthusiast, you won’t go home empty handed either:
Bandit Kings of Ancient China / Suikoden: Tenmei no Chikai (X68000)
Both of these soundtracks were tagged by KingTengu (many thanks!), who also provided proper song titles for Pacific Theater of Operations (X68000).
And finally one non-Koei game:
The Chaos Engine 2 (Amiga) – The last of the Bitmap Brothers games (sniff). I remember this being pretty crappy though. The soundtrack is by Richard Joseph and similar to his music in the prequel.
Karei naru Jinsei: Mina-san no okage desu (X68000) – Fun for the whole family: an adult-themed board game by Fairytale. The tags are in Japanese, if anybody has translations, let me know.
DR^2 Night Janki (PC-9801,OPNA) – Mahjong game / visual novel with, guess what? Naked girls, of course! The music is pretty good though.
Statix (Amiga) – Puzzle game, the in-game music is by Jochen Feldk???tter aka Virgill, who made awesome demo music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHtoT0FZXuY) on the Amiga.
– Explosive Breaker (Arcade – I requested this once before, but I wanted to see if it could be done with more advanced recording techniques you’ve used lately)
– Nobunaga no Yabou: Sengouku Gunyuuden (Sharp X6800 – Yet another KOEI soundtrack. 😀 )
– Nobunaga no Yabou: Haouden (Sharp X68000 – Also another KOEI soundtrack to request, lol. Seems like I’ve got a liking for games made by KOEI, since I’ve have an interest in Japanese and Chinese history, and they have the BEST music for their strategy games, bar none.)
If Explosive Breaker can’t be done still, then substitute it with 1945k III (Arcade).
Have a good day, nx666!! 😀
Chronicles of Omega (Atari ST) – Action game scored by Steve Barrett. Like most of his music this is pretty catchy stuff.
Chronicles of Omega (Amiga) – The Amiga port, also by Steve Barrett.
———- Post added at 03:32 PM ———- Previous post was at 03:29 PM ———-

Although I love strategy games, I never really paid a lot of attention to their stuff. The Koei series I like the most is Uncharted Waters. Played the DOS versions of the first two games to death. But they are not really strategy games, more like a mix of Pirates! with rpg elements. Pretty good music too.
Meikyuu Gakuensai: Kyuukousha no Nazo (PC-9801) – Trying to tag this game probably got me onto some FBI wanted list. The music is by Ryu Umemoto and Masahiro Kajihara and up there with their best work. Hard to believe that this was made with "just" an OPN chip.
Nobunaga’s Ambition: Haouden (X68000) and Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sengoku Gunyuuden (X68000) have been updated with tags provided by KingTengu

Hello again, nx666! I got some new requests for you today…
– Explosive Breaker (Arcade – I requested this once before, but I wanted to see if it could be done with more advanced recording techniques you’ve used lately)
If Explosive Breaker can’t be done still, then substitute it with 1945k III (Arcade).
I might be able to do 1945III, but the sound quality of that game is atrocious. Short, low quality loops, similar to the early Seta games with the X1-010. Don’t expect too much from that. Explosive Breaker would require too much time to rip, it’s still in my backlog but I don’t know when (or if) I will eventually get to it.
———- Post added at 12:37 PM ———- Previous post was at 12:31 PM ———-
I agree- I love KOEI’s games from the old days before Dynasty Warriors made them popular and before they merged with TECMO. Especially on their music.
While this might not be the most impressive stuff in terms of sound design, Yoko Kanno’s music is incredibly well composed. I would love to have orchestral arrangements of all of her soundtracks.

I’m already used to Seta’s sound quality and looping stuff anyways, so I still want 1945III regardless of those issues.
I don’t really care for the epic, impressive stuff.
Possessioner (PC-9801) – Adult-themed adventure game with great music. Hiroaki Sano and Masahiro Kajihara did the soundtrack for this one.
Garou Densetsu (X68000)
Garou Densetsu Special (X68000)(includes the X68000 version of Garou Densetsu 2’s exclusive tracks)
And the FM TOWNS version of Mahou Daisakusen. If that’s over the limit, just stick with the Garou games.

You are welcome 🙂
I can do the Fatal Fury games, but you might have to wait a few days as I won’t have access to my MIDI gear until the weekend.
As for Mahou Daisakusen / Sorcer Striker: the cd soundtrack of this game is just a recording of the X68000 music (which you can get from the OP).
-Wyvern Wings (Arcade)
-Trizeal (Arcade)
-XII Stag (Arcade)
I’m aware these’ll probably sound like butt :p Oh well. Thank you!
Hard’n Heavy (C64) – The semi-sequel to Giana Sisters. Chris Huelsbeck did the music, which is somewhat reminiscent of his Katakis soundtrack.
Strawberry Daisenryaku (X68000) – More great music from Fairytale, this one is a adult-themed strategy game. And one of the songs is called "Frankly, I am licking…". I sincerely hope that’s just a bad translation.
Revolution (C64) – I think "Aggressor Theme" was originally a demo by Martin Walker that was later used in this game. Sounds a bit like a techno remix of a Follin song.
Total Eclipse (C64) – One of the Freescape games, which were early 3d adventures. This atmospheric 10-minute track is by Wally Beben and similar to his Tetris music.
Thrice (X68000) – Puzzle game with music by Yuzo Koshiro.
Shiryou Sensen 2 (PC-8801) – Similar to the first game, I think overall I like this one a little bit better.
Wyvern Wings (Arcade) – Low-quality soundtrack that seems to (ab)use a lot of samples from various metal acts. The game itself looks pretty decent though, like a lost sequel to one of the old Psikyo shooters.

Hey nx666, I’ve got a few more Oriental Soft-related shmups to request:
-Trizeal (Arcade)
-XII Stag (Arcade)
Trizeal isn’t properly emulated yet. However, there is a Dreamcast version which (I think) has the same music and could be requested in ruiner’s thread. The music files for that game are available, so that rip should be fairly straightforward.
XII Stag also has problems in MAME: the sound hardware isn’t fully emulated yet. But that game has a PS2 port, and you can get the sound files (in mp3 format) from here (http://psf2.joshw.info/x/XII%20Stag%20(2003-03-20)(Triangle%20Service)(Taito).7z).
Fatal Fury Special (X68000,SC-55+OPM/MSM) – Similar to the first game. This one also includes most (all?) of the music from Fatal Fury 2.
Geometric 2 (C64) – Kai Walter aka PVCF was known for his multi-speed drivers and thumping techno music. His soundtracks are a pretty good showpiece for how far c64 sound driver design had come at the end of the system’s (commercial) life.
Nova 2 (C64) – A soundtrack composed by Kai Walter and Ron Grahnert, this one is a bit more melodic and less techno than Geometric 2. I’m not sure if the "Sound Collection Intro" was actually part of the game’s soundtrack, but it was too good to be left out.
Cardiaxx (Amiga) – Rocking tunes by Matt Simmonds
Popful Mail (PC-8801,OPNA) – The original version of this game, like most Falcom soundtracks this is pretty good.
-OutRun (C64)
-Turbo OutRun (C64)
-OutRun Europa (C64)
I don’t usually request stuff, but your Commodore 64 rips are the best in the entire net. SID emulation and Stone Oakvalley’s rips just doesn’t cut it for me anymore.
-OutRun (C64)
-Turbo OutRun (C64)
-OutRun Europa (C64)

Turbo Outrun is already in the OP. It’s a great soundtrack, easily one of the best arcade conversions on the C64. I’ll add the other two to my list.
And don’t hesitate to ask for more stuff, I don’t get requests for C64 music very often 🙂
OutRun (C64) – Conversion by Jason Brooke. I’ve never been a huge fan of this version of the soundtrack. It’s missing two songs, and what’s there isn’t all that great either.
OutRun Europa (C64) – This is an original game published by U.S. Gold based on the OutRun license. The music is a pretty solid effort by Jeroen Tel, although not nearly as inspired as his Turbo OutRun conversion.
OutRun Europe (C64) – That’s not a typo, there was a actually a fourth, unreleased game that at some point was turned into the Turbo OutRun port. There are only three tracks, two of which are remixes of "Passing Breeze" and "Splash Wave". Jeroen Tel is the composer for this one as well.
OutRun (C64) – Conversion by Jason Brooke. I’ve never been a huge fan of this version of the soundtrack. It’s missing two songs, and what’s there isn’t all that great either.

I had no idea OutRun Europe was a thing, I guess you learn something new everyday. Thank you very much for these soundtracks.
– Ghost Pilots (Arcade – A shmup that seems to take inspiration from Toaplan shmups and Raiden.)
– Legend of Success Joe (Arcade – A beat-’em up based on the anime and manga, similar to what SNK did for their adaptation of Eight Man.)
– Shienryu (Arcade – ruiner (I believe) ripped the PlayStation version (but I’m not sure), so I want to request the original arcade version.)
Have a great day, nx666, and long live VGM!!
Oh, I almost forgot, I download the ost for Neuromancer (C64) and it sounds really impressive despite the three tracks that are in the game.
Can you rip this?
– Contra Evolution (Arcade) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-OTFnzpBS8&list=PLJMgPZO0QGqavmomTSdoFnneqYHRxYGw9
– Jackie Chan: The Kung Fu Master in Fists of Fire (Arcade)
– Shogun Warriors (Arcade)
That being said, I’d like to make an arcade request of my own: Is it possible for you to rip Bonk’s Adventure: Arcade Version? Attempted a rip of this one myself, but it doesn’t seem to be supported by BridgeM1 at all, nor can I find a sound test for it. If it helps, the EU and JP titles for it are B.C. Kid: Arcade Version and Kyuukyoku!! PC Genjin respectively. Thanks in advance for looking into it!

Contra Evolution is essentially a PC game running in an arcade cabinet. But I don’t really want to pirate a game that’s a year old to rip its music. I can’t do the other two games either due to the lack of sound tests. Sorry about that.
However, I could do Dragon Master, and you were also asking for "Slum Dunk" in ruiner’s thread. Did you mean "Slam Dunk" aka "Run and Gun", the Konami game? I could do that as well.

Wow, I’m surprised to see an actual good rip of Ninja Baseball Bat Man here! When I tried to rip it in BridgeM1 it sounded terrible, and for some reason the sound test doesn’t play the complete tunes, so I really appreciate this! 🙂

Unfortunately, I can’t do this one either as Kaneko never bothered to put sound tests in their games. 🙁
Please post requests in the new thread from now on, I’ll consider this one closed.

Injury 🙁 I wanted to add Contra Evolution to collection rip and listen, Kaneko games have good rock music :(. "Slam Dunk" aka "Run and Gun" yes 🙂 you know konami games arcade music rock similar how Lethal Enforces, Violent Storm and other arcade games?
