However, in various sections of the movie I could hear static-like sounds, usually during the loud sections. My question is….is that actually part of the movie soundtrack or do I have a bad blu-ray?
If it was done for "artistic" purposes I didn’t really like it. Very distracting.
I’ve not heard of this from any of the releases out so far.
maybe your sound system is overloading (incorrect setup) and it’s clipping?
But it really sounds more like a bad speaker setup.
double-check your wiring, like actually unplug them then replug them in. Don’t just wiggle them and go to bed.
Could it be that you blew a speaker on your TV (I assume you’re watching it through the TV) and it just isn’t able to play properly?
Try lowering the volume down a lot during the loud parts and see if that static is still there.
Or it’s just a bad Blu-ray. If you got a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack pop in the DVD to see if that has static too.
If it’s a single bad disc out of a batch process, it doesn’t affect audio like that.
It would affect everyone’s disc from the same distributor, in this case, Australian.
There would be complaints from other purchasers.
A single "bad bluray" exhibits as non-playable.
It doesn’t affect sound or video as if you were to smear your dirty, filthy, human fingerprints all over it.
….try cleaning the disc and try again.
And definitely check your speakers.
I got crap desktop speakers that crackle and fizz when the wiring is catterwonky.
I need to replace them.
But it’s never the disc.
It’s either all of them or none of them.
You can look up past scenarios of faulty batching.
No one is ever so selfish.
And it does not seem to be the disc, as you’ve indicated, after all. I played it on my PC with 5.1 speakers and….no static/crackle!
Should have done that before asking here. 😮
Sometimes too much build up over years effects the read-lense.
Funny you should mention that, I had to turn on the subtitles because of it. That and McConaughey’s mumbling.

Also, clean the bluray player. (if disc is clean and PC unaffected)
That is probably way overdue!
Cheers.
