FUNNY GIRL (1968 soundtrack + Bonus Tracks) New Dolby Surround Mix

The soundtrack album of “Funny Girl” was remixed in CBS’ SQ process and issued as a Quadraphonic LP and reel to reel tape around 1970. The four channels were not the configuration used today for Dolby 5.1 as there was no center channel on these recordings. Since the SQ process is now obsolete I have remixed the album more in line with today’s listening preferences in the Dolby Pro Logic II Music Surround Mode: 3 channels in front and 2 in the rear for ambience. I have also tried to remove as much of the reverb that was added to most soundtrack recordings of the 1950s & 60s to give the vocals a warmer sound closer to that heard in the film. The so called “Finale” on all versions of the soundtrack was actually the main title music but I have not restored this track to its film position as the Overture already opens up the program spectacularly on the recording. I have repositioned the main title as an Entr’acte after “Don’t Rain on My Parade, which is the Intermission for the film. The Roadshow presentation of the movie used this same music without visuals as an entry into the second part of the film and I have also reconstructed the original Exit Music used at the end of the film and included it in its rightful position at the end of the soundtrack album. Any of these tracks can be repositioned back to their original LP places for purists who wish to do so.
Also included are 6 bonus tracks including my remixes of Streisand’s 1965 vocal of “My Man’, the last part of which was actually used in the 1968 film with augmented orchestration. I have always preferred this more complete version of the song which I remixed from a mid 1960s commercial reel to reel tape of the “My Name is Barbra” album and a newly mixed version of Streisand’s vocal of “Second Hand Rose” from “My Name is Barbra Two”. This song is heard partially in the film but was not included on the official soundtrack album. The 4 additional tracks are remastered studio recorded 45 single vocals of songs from “Funny Girl”, which Streisand recorded at various times between the stage and screen versions of the show including the upbeat title song cut from the stage show.
