Well played, Mr. Reynolds, well played.
So, the new administration at Fox finally "gets" what comic book movies are about and not all need to be PG-13. About time.
Now, about that Fantastic Four movie . . .
I was really bothered this morning when Reynolds hinted it was PG-13… I’m glad we’re getting the Deadpool movie we’ve been waiting for all these years! Had the test demo not been so well-received after its leak, I’m sure this movie would never have been greenlit, let alone be given an ‘R’ rating.
Children need to study, do their homework and get to bed without unsanctioned pregnancies, anyway.
Let the adults reap the benefits.
If they had made Origins rated-R, it would have done better.
If they did The Wolverine rated-R in the first place, it would have done better.
I don’t blame Hugh Jackman for quitting the role after he’s done with the Wolverine sequel.
I doubt that Fantastic Four movie will get an R rating.
Not unless they halt production to have a rewrite on the script for an R rating.
It looks like a kiddie popcorn movie from the get-go. : /
It looks like Interstellar for dumb people.
At least that’s what the trailer makes it seem like. I’m sure the movie will just be another mediocre popcorn flick that has nothing akin to the vibes the trailer gave off (the whole "humans need to evolve to survive" thing… that might have been a good direction for an X-Men trailer to take, not FF).
But even if Fox is completely dropping the ball with FF, at least they’re being less restrictive on how Reynolds and co. want to do Deadpool.
Sounds like Magneto.
I don’t like the boy who plays him. He usually has crap roles.
I didn’t like Whiplash. He sucked. I didn’t even finish watching Whiplash.
He was also bad in that Divergent film, too.
Such a typecast role at such a young age.
Today’s generations are just… just…
I don’t like the boy who plays him. He usually has crap roles.
Who now? Michael Fassbender?
I haven’t seen him outside of X-Men (I don’t watch too many films, to be honest) but Wikipedia doesn’t list him as being in either Divergent or Whiplash.
He looks like crap. He plays crap.
Wait, the crappy boy is playing the lead role…

That piece of crap.
I love Fassbender. He makes an excellent Magneto.
But, "humans need to evolve to survive" sounds a lot like Magneto’s passion.
Toby Kebbell playing the bad guy in FF is probably the most appealing factor so far.

Toby Kebbell is a real rocknrolla.

More than an "R" rating Wolverine: Origins needed a much better script. All the blood and gore in the world would not have helped that film. Of course that film was made under Fox’s previous regime and the head of the studio held comic book films in low regard.
As for the Fantastic Four, I wasn’t talking about it having an "R". The FF have never been that kind of comic, while Deadpool certainly is an "R." I was thinking about the relative lack of publicity, except for one rather bland trailer and some meh photos. The movie comes out in August and the PR machine should be in overdrive. The FF film is competing against the Avengers, Mad Max, Ant Man, for the audience’s attention and Fox doesn’t have the brand recognition of Marvel which is now comparable to Disney in audience awareness.
The lack of publicity is furthering the perception the film is a dud and if Fox does not get ahead of that perception, the film will sink before it hits the theaters.
P.S. And where the hell is Doctor Doom? Easily one of the most iconic comic book characters ever created and he is AWOL. Situation not very promising.
Trailers will surely be attached to Avengers and Ant Man.
By comparison FF has released one trailer that was unremarkable and some images. No decent shots of The Thing, The Human Torch or Doom? Can you imagine what a money shot of The Thing going to town yelling his trademark "It’s clobbering’ time," Johnny Storm saying "Flame On" and blazing into the night sky or Doom, being, well Doom, clad in his medieval battle suit would do to capture the public’s attention? GoTG wisely pushed Groot and Rocket to the forefront of its publicity. (What kid doesn’t want to see a giant talking tree and a trigger happy raccoon?)
Publicity is making the audience want to see your movie. However, FF is getting a stink of failure. Audiences can smell that stink and that’s not something that will get them into the theater.
FF thinks it can scrape by w/o any marketing because hey, everyone knows who the Fantastic Four are, right? ‘Why try?’ is Fox’s philosophy with its comic book films a lot of the time.
And Dr. Doom, according to rumors, will be a computer hacker with the username "Doom". I almost believe it.
And one good trailer could put a lot of those fears to rest. For example: Mad Max: Fury Road had Terry Gilliam type bad luck before the first scene was shot and once the cameras rolled there were reports of cost over runs, Miller missing his deadlines and Warner sending its reps out to Namibia to get the production on track and yadda, yadda, yadda, and blah, blah, blah.
Then Miller released the trailer at Comic-Con and the audience saw what Miller and his team had done -vehicular insanity on a massive scale – and overnight those doubts vanished.
Of course, they released their first trailer almost a year before the film hit theaters and they’ve been building on that initial momentum ever since.
FF might penetrate the public’s awareness but the next trailer had best be epic in nature, showing the audience something it hasn’t seen before.
Nah, that info hasn’t been released yet… but the movie comes out in February. Plenty of time for them to announce it.
