Note: as per usual with my deluxe editions, I trimmed silences from beginning and end of cues as well as mixed shorter cues together for better flow (50 tracks become 27) and fixed the inconsistent volume issue which is prevalent in all editions of the complete score I’ve come across.
This score hearkens back to the golden days of my youth when going to the movies was not only fun but when a movie sequel was fun to re-visit multiple times in theatres. I myself was there 4 times before it left, the first time I’d ever done that. It was a really fun movie with a really fun and action-packed score by veteran Alan Silvestri, taking over scoring duties from the original feature’s maestro Jerry Goldsmith.
Originally released by Decca Records, the official album contained a pretty generous 69 minutes of score (minus the 4 minute song "Forever May Not Be Long Enough" by Live, which is not included on this set) while this release is the complete score containing almost 40 minutes of unreleased material, restored and re-mastered to the highest quality sound standards I am able to come up with.
The original materials are lossless WAV which sound absolutely breathtaking. To those stuck with the old 320 MP3 rip, discard it because from experience that MP3 bootleg sounds like sheer crap (flat, lifeless, etc.) and almost caused me to give up on this project. After having lost my original FLAC source due to a hard drive crash, hmancini here on the forum came to the rescue and re-uploaded a WAV format version which still sounded pretty stellar compared to the MP3 versions.
For this release no digital noise reduction, reverb or fancy effects were applied to the source. The source sounded fine enough on its own to not warrant any additional clean-up.
This has been an edition I’ve been secretly waiting on SonicAdventure to do (a la Goldsmith’s "The Mummy") however I understand he is busy so I took it upon myself to do it. That and his comments in regards to the heavy volume vs. bass issue prevalent in Van Helsing led me to believe he had no interest in doing it.
Many have been asking for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 deluxe edition and I promise it IS coming. It’s just not priority #1 right now. Keep your eyes peeled!
Anyway, now that this is done I encourage you all to sit back and enjoy!
P.S. Silvestri really seems to love him some triangles. Its sound is heard about as many times as a cymbal crash or a long brass note in this score.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one. It must be hard being as awesome as SonicAdventure is, and he’s done so many amazing remastering projects already that I’m giving him some slack on this one. Besides, as you said, his comments on his "Van Helsing" thread makes me think he’d be hesitant to return to another early 2000’s Silvestri score.
Also, anyone looking for a "complete score" cover instead of the OST version can use this one (not mine, btw).
All-in-all, can’t wait to give this score a spin!
There’s no lossless version right ?
Not yet, regrettably. Would love to find a lossless Godzilla too. The 192k version is surprisingly good but I know it would sound better in lossless.
I would have loved to do it, actually. Why wouldnt I like something gorgeous as ‘The Mummy Returns’? Its a marvellous score.
But Ive always been working on something else, and so Ive been pushing several Editions I was thinking of away, ‘Mummy Returns’ has been one of them.
It’s my cover work:

Have to get the second one off my seedbox before I can continue the saga.
Not really sure I want to watch the third one, though.
And I would love to hear someone do a deluxe edition for Van Helsing. The complete version would seem to need a lot of work, but it’s such an amazing score.

SonicAdventure did do one.
Thanks a lot.
SonicAdventure did do one.
I noticed it too. No biggie given the great quality overall.
Agree. JG is still my fav. And thanks to the Op for his generosity 🙂
Funnily enough, it appears that a few of these cues are from different takes altogether. Listen to 1:08-1:16 of "My First Bus Ride" and it sounds markedly different from the same section in the old 320 MP3 rip. Curious how there seems to be alternate takes floating around for this score (from a different set of sessions, perhaps?). Either way, the take is similar enough that it doesn’t warrant an "alternate" version placed in the score, and the Deluxe Edition as a whole sounds so much better than the old rip that this is the definitive version of this score as of right now. I’ve already posted my thanks, but you need to hear it again; thanks codyap09 for the awesome share! Anyone on the fence about getting one of the best action score of the 2000’s; in the wise words of Shia Labeouf…well, you know.
EDIT: As a side note, that weird noise that I thought might be a flub at 5:54-5:56 of "My First Bus Ride" is in both versions, so I’m guessing it’s intentional?
