In addition to his 1954 recording of a 30 minute concert suite from his massive score for "Gone with the Wind", Max Steiner recorded various themes from film scores dating back to the early 1930s through the middle 1950s for RCA Victor which were released on various 45EPs, 10 inch LPs & as fillers in the 12 inch release of the "Gone with the Wind" suite. A 1956 12 inch album, RCA Victor LM-1170, featured the contents of an earlier 10 inch LP (8 tracks) combined with 4 newly recorded tracks of themes from Steiner scores of 1955-56 films, including the only legitimate release ever of Steiner conducting his lovely theme for 1956’s "Helen of Troy". At least half of Steiner’s RCA recorded themes have never been reissued on CD or any other format since their initial release. This expanded, newly remastered set includes 20 themes composed and conducted by Max Steiner spanning the period of 1932-1959. The mp3 (320kbps) download of this set was prepared for a member of this forum who requested it but since it is up I thought others here might enjoy hearing these 50+ year old recordings in all their original RCA "New Orthophonic Sound" glory.
