Bit of a backstory here. Lost River is the upcoming feature film directed by Ryan Gosling. I have been waiting for this movie for a while, but I’ve been waiting for the score for even longer. Why? Because it’s Johnny Jewel (real name John Pagett). To anybody here who has seen Drive, you’ve heard his music before. He is the owner and founder of Italians Do It Better records, probably my favorite label. He also oversees all of the bands under the label, and is the leader of all of them: Chromatics, Desire, Glass Candy, Symmetry, Farrah & Mike Simonetti. Getitng back to Drive: 2 songs from the IDIB label make an appearance: Chromatics’ "Tick of the Clock" (used during the opening scene) and Desire’s "Under Your Spell". Originally, Jewel was supposed to score the film as he was Nicolas Winding Refn’s first choice. But the studio wanted a more well-known composer and it ended up being Cliff Martinez and the rest is history. But at least those 2 songs made it to the film. If it hadn’t been for Drive, I never would have known who all of these incredible artists are. I think that’s enough rambling, I advise people to check out all the bands. They’re awesome. Chromatics are my favorite, and their new album Dear Tommy is coming out very soon. I also have several IDIB albums on vinyl, they’re advertised in my sig.
