God bless you. I was absolutely stunned when I saw on Tuesday that the Intrada boys had released this. It is THE score that I’ve waited to see released longer than almost any score ever but feared that it’d never see a release due to its television obscurity.

Intense action 1977 score by Leonard Rosenman for demon auto thriller gets first-ever release on CD! Existential horror tale directed by Elliot Silverstein, with James Brolin, Ronny Cox, offers frightening attacks by automobile run amok in small town. Where did it come from? Why is it here? Little time for questions as sheriff and deputy struggle to protect citizens. Rosenman anchors with powerhouse statements of medieval "Dies Irae" melody, for tuba, trombone. Low brass play major role in score throughout with virtuoso trumpets getting the spotlight in tour de force chase sequences. Woodwinds have their say as well. Action remains keynote, so rhythmic vitality stays front and center. Interestingly, Rosenman offers trademark atonal material to suggest arid desert landscape but imbues action cues with strong tonal flavor, often with major triads in trumpets leading the way. Striking approach! Intrada CD presents entire score from original 35mm three-channel stereo scoring session elements transferred to 1/2" tape by Universal and vaulted in pristine condition. Extras include three unused versions of climactic "Apparition" cue plus Universal promo spots. I second this, that score is another fine example of great scoring for an arguably more or less forgettable, typical 70ies horror flick (which nevertheless is fun to watch, starring a then very popular James Brolin of "Dr. Welby, M.D." fame, also known from genre movie "Westworld", starring opposite Yul Brunner as the gunman robot).

After hearing some samples on the intrada homepage, this absolutely is a must-have!

darkknight: Thank you! This score has been a long time coming, and I sure hope that this is a beginning of some of Mr. Goldenberg’s Universal other work coming to cd. Surely the most unjustly neglected world-class film composer ever.
As for flac, I ordered this as soon as it was announced, as I’ve been waiting for this for +40 years. But when I saw your posting, I couldn’t wait another minute. Honestly, I don’t know of I’ll be able to hear a difference. The sound quality of your upload is stunning. What was totally unexpected is the stereo separation. You get different weird and bizarre stuff coming at you from both sides. Love it! But at least I’ll have a permanent copy (if you’ve been waiting for something for more than 40 years, a "permanent" copy may be something more theoretical now than practical) and some shiny and probably uninspired liner notes. Sorry I didn’t comment sooner but I’ve been too busy listening.
Soundtrekker, don’t know what the story behind the reupload is, but as always, you’re a scholar and a gentleman, sir.
