Toccata and Fugue: Organ Surround Illusion – Ale� B�rta (24bit-88kHz Stereo/5.1 FLAC)

Quite a pricey import (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0067MWU0S/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new) now by all accounts. Track 1 is quite possibly the best version of Toccata and Fugue in D minor I’ve ever heard. Both the recording AND the performance. The timing is impeccable and at times you can even hear the reeds opening/closing. As I’ve stated before…the bass will facilitate the shitting of ones pants if played through a sizeable Hi-Fi system.

Method:

1. SACD .ISO (Ripped using modified PS3)
2. Individual DSD tracks extracted (custom .bat file)
3. DSD to 24bit-88kHz PCM using Weiss Saracon [0.0dB Gain] (WAV Extensible format)
4. WAV Gain Checked using Dynamic Range Meter (Foobar2000)
5. Step 3 repeated with correct gain applied to match output of original SACD
6. WAV Batch converted to FLAC format
7. Metadata applied with MP3Tag (or manually in this case)

NB: Spectral analysis reveals not much going on above 15kHz throughout. This is possibly due to a large cat being stuck in one of the flues, the nature of the instrument/mic/recording or a limitation of the source material itself (though I’m loathe to say this)

Thank you very much for the link, merrick. Unfortunately, perhaps because I do not have a high quality sound system, my pants remain quite clean. On the other hand, that’s money saved on dry cleaning… and I did enjoy the music nevertheless!

I will enjoy the 24/88.2 FLAC 2.0
I also downloaded part 01 at FLAC 5.1 as a test and played it on my PC using foobar2000 successfully. My AV Receiver can’t play FLAC 5.1, not sure any can. This would have to be re-encoded as DTS 5.1 or other multichannel container I think.
